Taking drugs for me is a complete crapshoot of whether it’s going to do what it says on the label or not. Some examples include:
Caffeine: does nothing, occasionally can make me feel feverish or tired if I take a whole lot
CBD: also nothing, might make me feel a little hyper
Ibuprofen: actually useless, I have to take different NSAIDs like Naproxen instead
Anxiety meds/antidepressants: I’ve tried a whole bunch of these, some that stand out are Effexor and Cymbalta, none of them do anything but give me absolutely massive headaches and make me feel like there are ants crawling under my skin, they leave me writhing and rocking on the floor for hours. They also tend to make me get sudden rushes of feeling super embarrassed for no reason at all.
Sedatives: I’ve had a few different types of these too, they don’t sedate me at all they just make me feel loopy and hallucinate things visually. Recently I was given Ativan because I was having crazy anxiety and it did absolutely nothing to help, it just made me dizzy, hallucinate, and become paranoid… I was even more anxious and definitely not sedated.
The problem here is not only that it’s a lottery anytime I want to be treated for something, but the fact that since I have the “wrong” reactions to things so often, I get treated like a psych patient almost immediately and my original issue goes ignored. Everything just leads back to going to a psychologist.
Am I crazy for thinking I’m NOT crazy and it’s just that my developmental disorder is making my brain react abnormally to classic medications? I only freak out and hallucinate and rock and things because it was triggered by a drug, I didn’t come into the clinic doing that! Does anyone else have this experience? Being told you belong in the psych ward because you don’t react correctly to normal treatment?
