So you've heard the buzz about this weekβs AEW Dynamite. People say itβs got a PPV-level world title match between Kenny Omega and the current AEW World Champion. You're not a regular AEW watcher, want to give it a shot this week, but also want to know what's going on. Or you do watch it, but are a bit behind.
Don't worry. Here's a quick summary.
Official Recaps:
AEW Control Center: This 8 minute video briefly summarizes some of the larger storylines set to feature on this week's episode.
Road to Winter is Coming: This 13 minute video goes in depth into the long build to Jon Moxley vs Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship. Over a year and a half in the making.
War is Here: A 2 minute advertisement for the episode.
The Card:
TNT Champion Darby Allin & Cody Rhodes vs Team Taz (Powerhouse Hobbs and βAbsoluteβ Ricky Starks)
Faces:
Heels:
Team Taz have been feuding with Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin for a while now.
Recently, Team Taz members Brian Cage and Ricky Starks beat Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin in a tag match. Powerhouse Will Hobbs revealed his new allegiance to Team Taz in the process.
Last week, Hobbs quickly defeated Codyβs student, Lee Johnson. Afterwards, Taz tried to force AEW management to give his βFTW Championshipβ (a belt he created) official status. Cody tried to calm him down, but got choked out by an angry Taz. Later, Ricky Starks called out Cody and Darby.
Tl;dr - emo skater and showboat wrestler vs suave operator and big bruiser.
(Also, Cody was recently challenged by Shaq, via new wrestler Jade Cargill speaking on his behalf. That may end up being relevant.)
Chris Jericho vs Frankie Kazarian

And will only get colder into the night, as Dynamite continues and they likely film matches for Dark afterwards (which they might opt to not do).
Surely this beats the crazy heat and humidity of mid-summer Florida that they had previously been dealing with, but this will likely add a whole new set of challenges for the wrestlers and crew, and probably not be terribly comfortable for the fans in attendance, either. Hopefully they set up some space heaters or something.
Some wrestlers have already began to talk about how chilly it's been in Jacksonville, and you could even see Justin Roberts wearing a coat when ring announcing on Dark, and that was back when the weather was still in the 50's and 60's (roughly 14-17 in Celsius).
Conversely, the very next night (when they will likely be filming the next week's episode of Dynamite + Dark) should be about 15 degrees warmer, with a current forecast of 61Β°F (16Β°C).
Also, DAE think their xmas show should be called βmerry Xmas ya filthy animalsβ?
Spoilers for the Game of Thrones TV show and A Song of Ice and Fire books are surely to come in this post.
So, the December 2nd edition of AEW Dynamite, set to feature the Kenny Omega vs Jon Moxley title match, is being called "Winter Is Coming." While it's likely they just thought that'd be a cool name for a December episode, what if... what if Tony Khan decided to go all out and just have the team behind the Game of Thrones TV show's ending book that night's episode?
MJF gets poisoned and dies after 20 minutes of suffocating in the ring. We learn it was Brandi who did it months later.
Wardlow and Hager finally fight, and it's really disappointing and mostly happens off screen.
Mr. Brodie Lee and the Dark Order attack everyone, but then Riho out of nowhere does the most devastating move in all of professional wrestling, the surprise roll-up, and defeats Mr. Brodie Lee once and for all, causing the rest of the Dark Order to surrender.
Luchasaurus has an abrupt heel turn and then is defeated by a sad Jungle Boy who wanders off alone. Marko Stunt just drinks wine and is sad.
Rey Fenix and Fuego del Sol get in a battle with Lindsay Snow and Lady Frost, but Fuego Del Sol refuses to use the Tornado DDT and they both lose due to really poor decision making.
So yeah, give your commentary on the Game of Thrones TV show's ending via horrible booking for AEW.
And because need can't run our totally heated not thrown together Blood and Guts match during a pandemic.
Well really is just because we want a full crowd for these two teams that hate each other so much they forgot to even face each other
AEW also drew a .42 in the 18-49 demographic!!!!!!!!! HOW AMAZING IS THAT! WOWZA!!! THIS IS SOOOOOOOO HUGE!!! GOD ITS SO GREAT SO MANY PEOPLE SAW THIS AMAZING SHOW!!
WWE NXT brought in 658,000 viewers with a .16 in the same demographic. Ha pathetic!!! PATHETIC! FED IS DEAD!
Last week AEW Dynamite pulled in an overnight average of 710,000 viewers. WWE NXT brought in 712,000 viewers. AEW drew a .26 rating in the 18-49 demographic. WWE NXT brought in a .14 rating in the same coveted demographic. But it turned out they drew so NXT didnt win! We AEW fans don't care for ratings but hahahha we drew NXT didnt win!!! Hereβs 72,000 words laying out the mental gymnastics you will need to complete to recognize Wednesday nights on TNT as your one, true God. I hope after tonight you are refreshed and truly feel like a kid again...
I couldn't help but see a potential opportunity to weave the storylines of AEW and NJPW together in this AEW World Title Match next week between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley. When Jon Moxley was attacked last week I immediately thought of Kenta because there wasn't anybody else who has a problem with Mox right now except Omega. A lot of people thought it was Lance Archer but their rivalry was over when Mox beat Archer clean in the middle of the ring over a month ago on Dynamite with no follow up since. It also doesn't seem like Omega's style even with his new heelish persona cause he's still convinced he`s a good guy despite his new over the top personality. Saying that there is only one choice left and that is Kenta. Kenta has all the beef in the world with Moxley for having to defend his briefcase time and time again waiting for Moxley to return to New Japan so he can challenge for the U.S. Title. I believe this is what Tony Khan was referring to when he said "a shift in wrestling's balance of power has begun" and here's how it should go.
Omega and Moxley are 20 minutes into not only one of the best matches in Dynamite history but one of the best AEW matches period. These two are absolutely killing each other going back and forth the whole match when suddenly Kenta hops the rail and distracts Moxley. Kenta simply says the words, "It was me Mox, it was me." This pisses off Mox to the point where he gets out of the ring to go after Kenta but he escapes through the crowd. The announcers explain this is Moxley's next challenger for his IWGP U.S. Title in New Japan but Moxley needs to focus on the all important AEW World Championship or he'll lose everything he's been working for in AEW. Sure enough as soon as Moxley gets back in the ring he gets hit with a nasty V-Trigger from Omega which leads to the One Winged Angel and sees Kenny Omega pick up the victory and win the AEW World Title. After the match is over, Omega is celebrating in the ring and Kenta comes back in to beat down Mox. Kenny doesn't seem to care as he's seen laughing exiting the ring instead of helping Mox. Kenny continues to laugh up the stage as he think he's in the clear when suddenly the ever iconic Bullet Club theme hits. Next thing you know Jay White, Gedo, G.O.D., Bad Luck Fale, Taiji Ishimori, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL make there way out of the tunnel. Omega has a stare down with all of Bullet Club knowing exactly what's about to happen. Bullet Club has regrouped and has come for the
