Some random facts I got from this research.
Both the Suns and the Kings have picked the most (11) in the lottery since the 2011 draft
Brooklyn Nets is the only team to never pick in the draft lottery since the 2011 draft, even though they have the 4th worst W/L% since 2011

The Lakers have drafted the most amount of All-Stars (3), but none of them become an All-Star with the Lakers Jersey
Anthony Davis has the most amount of All-Star appeareances (8) for a player drafted since 2011
The Cavs have drafted the most amount of champions (3), all of them become champions with LBJ as teammate

There are no players drafted since 2011 to be an All-Star for the 2 different conferences
Anthony Davis is the only player (drafted since 2011) to be an All-Star for the West (NOP) and be traded
The number 1 position in the draft has produced the most amount of All-Stars (5) since 2011
Enes Kanter Freedom is the player (734) with the most amount of games played drafted since the 2011 draft
Luka Doncic and Zion Williamson average the most amount of PPG (25,7) of players drafted since the 2011 draft
Georgios Papagiannis has played the least amount of games (39) of all players since the 2011 draft (considering players that could have played more than 39 only)
Anthony Bennett is the only number 1 overall pick to average under 10PPG through out his career (4,4)
There have been 10 All-Stars drafted since the 2011 draft that came from outside the lottery, 4 of them came from the 2nd round
Just looking through the list, I was surprised to see how many great and good players were drafted that year, to name a few:
Kyrie Irving,
Kemba Walker,
Klay Thompson,
Kawhi Leonard,
Isiah Thomas,
Jimmy Buttler,
Nikola Vucevic,
Tobias Harris,
Bojan Bogdanovic,
Brandon Knight,
Jonas ValanΔiΕ«nas,
Chandler Parsons,
Nikola Mirotic,
Morris twins,
Enes Kanter,
Tristan Thompson, Shump and Nets pick,
Alec Burks,
DΔvis BertΔns,
..and couple other good rotation players.
It's just amazing how deep this draft was.
The full trade was
Cavs get:
Baron Davis, 2011 first round pick (became Kyrie Irving)
Clippers receive:
Jamario Moon, Mo Williams
I understand that Mo Williams was coming off an all-star season playing with Lebron James but what were the Clippers thinking in this scenario? They traded what would become the #1 pick at the trade deadline. Where does this rank as far as the most lopsided trades in NBA history?
Prologue: I got the idea after re-watching some BS podcasts about Re-Draft from 96-10 and thought it would be a nice off-season convo , since we are now 10 years away and rankings wouldn't drastically change I would assume.
Rules: We don't draft for untapped potential, injuries remain, career averages and individual accolades(all nba, all star selections etc) stay the same.
We basically choose which career we would rather have for the amount they've played so far(since most of them aint retired) , with a lottery pick on our team if we were GMs.
Basically we draft who had the better individual career and who would most likely help a team win. Dude's contracts shouldn't matter , not our fault if some GM gave a max to Parsons. We go until #14 pick obviously.
Slow start averaged 12.3 from 2012 to 2015, got his first all star selection in 2016 but he already had a Finals MVP and a DPOY by then, with the most ferocious/intelligent defense any wing has played since prime Pippen. x5 all star , x7(!) All defense (3 of them being 1st) , x2 DPOY, X2 FMVP , X5 All-NBA (3 1st, 2 2nd)
The number of injuries and him skipping missing a whole year, can't make you uncomfortable enough to even consider passing on him.
He came out of the gates averaging his three first seasons 20.7 / 5.8 , for one of the worst teams in the NBA. He is a 7 time all-star , but has never played over 73 games in a regular season. 3 All Nba (1 second , 2 third) selections, but has been steadily one of the worst defenders in his position.
I don't think there are many players in this league that could do what he did in those '16 finals, but his playoff run with the Celtics was embarrassing.
If he skipped next season to take a soul journey nobody would be that surprised , but he still is one of the most electric/aesthetically pleasing offensive players of the game. Ultimately him proving he is a real #2 on a championship team and not being a late bloomer like the next two gets him the number two spot.
Only him and Jimmy were the actual contenders for this spot and Klay narrowly gets it because of his playoff resume. Jimmy has more All NBA selections (4 vs 2 , both third team) and su

Inspired by this post from u/significantsignature asking why the 2011 Draft doesn't get any love I took a closer look at every draft from 1980 to see if there was a quick and dirty way to quantify the overall quality of each draft.
I settled on a simple methodology because I'm a simple man. I also ended up stopping at 2013 because there's simply not enough of a track record for a fair comparison.
I used Win Shares/48 to determine the depth of a draft. .100 is the approximate league average so any player drafted who averaged .100 or greater for their career (minimum of 5 years played) rated as a quality NBA player. To measure overall historical impact I just took the cumulative Win Shares for each player's career. Number 250 on the All-Time Win Shares leaderboard is my man Lou Williams with 65 so that became my arbitrary cut-off point. I also made note of any interesting players that didn't qualify under either criteria.
What I found was that on average, a draft produced 12 Quality Players and 4.5 Career Greats. A perfectly cromulent example of this would be the 2007 Draft headlined by Durant, Horford, Marc Gasol, Mike Conley and Thaddeus Young(!?) as Career Greats with a total of 11 Quality Players. The Near Misses include Jeff Green, Aaron Afflalo and Marco Belinelli.
First, the worst overall drafts:
2002 - 9 QP, 4 CG, NM - Tayshaun Prince, Caron Butler, Matt Barnes
1980 - 6 QP, 2 CG, NM - Rick Mahorn, Joe Barry Carroll
2000- 8 QP, 0 CG, NM - Jamal Crawford, Mo Peterson, Quentin Richardson
Now, the deepest drafts:
2011 - 17 QP, 3 CG, NM - Bojan Bogdanovic, Both Morris Bros., Bismack Biyombo
2009 - 18 QP, 4 CG, NM - Jrue Holiday, Brandon Jennings, Tyreke Evans
2008 - 18 QP, 6 CG, NM - Derrick Rose, Eric Gordon, Mario Chalmers
Finally, the strongest drafts:
1984 - 12 QP, 9 CG, NM - Sam Bowie
1985 - 13 QP, 9 CG, NM - Tyrone Corbin, Xavier McDaniel, Spud Webb, Manute Bol
1996 - 14 QP, 10 CG, NM - Derek Fisher, Antoine Walker, Othella Harrington
Main takeaways:
Yes, the 2011 Draft is underrated but so are 1985 and 2008.
Unsurprisingly 1996 is king, followed by 1984.
2003's reputation is buoyed by the supremely successful top 5 picks but with 11 QP and 6 CG isn't really a contender for top class overall.
I'm not the first person to note this but 2000

Laugh at people
Unfairly judge people using hindsight
Today, letβs do both. Weβre gonna look at the B/R 2011 NBA Mock Draft.
Hop in your time machines! Letβs take a look!
**disclaimer: this is not meant to be taken seriously
#Pick 1 (CLE): Kyrie Irving, PG
Obvious pick. B/R is 1 for 1 so far!
#Pick 2 (MIN): Derrick Williams, SF
...woah. As someone unfamiliar with this draft, this surprised me. Turns out there were people saying the Cavs should draft him over Kyrie!
To quote the B/R article;
>With Kyrie Irving off the board, the only logical choice here is Derrick Williams.
>Minnesota could use Williams to pair up with Kevin Love, forming one of the most potent forward tandems in the league.
See what I mean? In hindsight, this looks fucking stupid! I canβt judge them for this too much though; nobody knew he would be such a bust.
This is funny though...
>The forward from Arizona is a very good all-around player whose trademark is his incredible efficiency shooting the ball.
He never shot above 50% in a season.
#Pick 3 (UTA): Brandon Knight, PG/SG
I mean itβs not terrible... IRL he was drafted 8th overall, and went on to have a decent career.
But there was someone else on the board who they couldβve taken instead.... his name is Kemba Walker? Perhaps youβve heard of him.
IRL they drafted this guy:
#Pick 4 (CLE): Enes Kanter, C
Solid choice i suppose. They ended up with Tristan Thompson instead, but i see where they were coming from.
#Pick 5 (TOR): Kemba Walker, PG
THIS is interesting! Imagine if the Raps had a core of Kemba/DeRozan instead of Lowry/DeRozan
it doesnβt sound as good of a fit, but itβs an interesting scenario. Instead, they went with Jonas IRL, which was a good pick.
#Pick 6 (WAS): Jan Vesely, SF/PF
##WHO?!
Seriously. I did so much digging, and it seems like NOBODY liked this kid... yet they kept putting him in the top-5.
Why? Was it conformity? Blackmail? Idk!
At any rate, Vesely only lasted 3 seasons in the NBA, never cracked 5 ppg, and currently plays in Turkey.
#Pick 7 (SAC): Kawhi Leonard, SF
He probably wouldnβt develop into the top-5 player he is today in Sacramento, but a Boogie/Kawhi pairing couldβve been very interesting.
instead, they drafted Bismack Biyombo.
The Kings are cursed.
>[Kawhiβs]
... keep reading on reddit β‘Why did so many future star players drop in the 2011 NBA draft?
I just dont get it. People said it was a weak draft as well. But looking at tapes, what was so weak about the prospects back then that made them drop so much?
I dont quite understand. I would like to know this, so this mistake dont get repeated in the future.
On February 23, 2011, the Golden State Warriors acquired Troy Murphy and a 2012 second-round draft pick (the 35th pick aka Draymond Green) from the New Jersey Nets (Brooklyn Nets) in exchange for Brandan Wright and Dan Gadzuric

Yes, you read that right. 5β9 IT was able to get 13 reps while the Klaw got 3. I suppose San Diego Stateβs weight room was too crowded for Kawhi, who prefers to workout alone.
proof: https://www.nbadraft.net/nba-draft-combine-athleticism-testing
For example, in NFL I know Peyton Manning chose to wear 18 because of his brother who used to wear that number but had to end his career very early due to injuries.
Most people know that the 2011 draft was very deep, but few people realize how insanely deep it was.
To put it in perspective, 24 players in the 2011 draft have a WS of over 11.
the 2012 draft had 15 players. The 2010 draft had 16. You have to go back 2 whole years for a draft with more players over 11 WS, and thats with a 2 year advantage in play time.
Essentially, You had roughly an 80% chance at getting a decent contributor in the first round

So looking back, I remembered how poorly thought of the 2011 NBA Draft was.
Bleacher Report said: >The 2011 NBA Draft class is shaping up to be one of the poorest in recent memory. In fact, it has the potential to go down as one of the worst of all time.
SBNation ran an article entitled β2011 NBA Draft: Weak or Weakest?β
The Big Lead declared that βsmartβ teams were trading away their draft picks because of how terrible the draft class was.
Other articles asked whether if it was the worst in history.
So just how βterribleβ was the 2011 Draft?
Well, letβs take a look. Keep in mind that in these comparisons, the 2011 Draft is actually at a significant disadvantage. Since itβs the most recent draft, many of the players havenβt even reached the prime of their careers yet. So by the time things are all said and done, itβs likely the 2011 Draft will actually look even better. And lastly, we are looking looking at drafted players for the sake of simplicity.
Players That Appeared In At Least One NBA Game 2011: 54 2010: 51 2009: 50 2008: 51 2007: 49 2006: 52
Number Of All-Star Players 2011: 6 2010: 4 2009: 6 2008: 6 2007: 4 2006: 5
Number Of All-NBA Players 2011: 5 2010: 3 2009: 4 2008: 5 2007: 4 2006: 4
Number of NBA Championships 2011: 8 2010: 1 2009: 5 2008: 6 2007: 6 2006: 9
The next 4 teams (Lakers, Spurs, Timberwolves, and Warriors) could have kept the streak going by drafting Davis Bertans, Josh Harrellson, Greg Smith, and Willie Reed.
BONUS USELESS FACT- In the same draft class, Charles Jenkins (6'3'' 220 lbs.) weighs the same with Donatas Motiejunas (7'0'' 220 lbs.) and Nikola Mirotic (6'10'' 220 lbs.).
I'll provide a quick summation of the reasons he felt that the following 12 rookies will be a bust.
If you want to read his article in full, here it is: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/809909-12-nba-rookies-that-will-disappoint-and-prove-to-be-busts-in-2011-12
Nikola Mirotic: "Mirotic is not a solid rebounder nor is he a good shot blocker."
Norris Cole: "While Cole will have the opportunity to prove himself, he will find himself lost among the shuffle of superstardom in Miami. It would be tough for any point guard in general, let alone a rookie one, to balance the offense between the Heat's LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh."
Jonas Valanciunas: "However, Valanciunas is a tremendous risk because the Toronto Raptors are not sure whether or not he will be able to come play for them. There is a very good possibility that Valanciunas may stay in the Euro league, and this could cause major issues for Toronto."
Cory Joseph: "Last season while at Texas, Cory Joseph averaged 10.4 points and three assists, which are not exactly overwhelming numbers for a point guard. He is neither an exceptionally good passer nor a proven scorer, and while he is an OK defender, he never had to guard the likes of Chris Paul or Steve Nash. The Spurs really set themselves for disappointment with this first-round pick."
Donatas Motiejunas: The reality of Motiejunas is he has some serious bulking up to do. His stature is not NBA ready material and bound to get abused in the paint by other centers. At his size, Motiejunas should be a prolific shot blocker, and he isnβt. He averaged 0.5 blocks per game overseas last year. Finally, his five rebounds per game are frightening. The stage is set for Motiejunas to become a bust."
Kawhi Leonard: "At 6β7β, Leonard is the build of player that should have an inside and out game, yet he doesnβt. His jump shot needs some serious work. Additionally, his defensive game is not going to follow him to the NBA, at least not right away. The San Antonio Spursβ plan may be to groom Leonard as Richard Jeffersonβs successor, but their expectations of him may be unreasonable. Leonardβs lack of versatility will be exposed in the NBA."
Markieff Morris: "What exactly were the Phoenix Suns thinking when they drafted Markieff Morris ahead of his twin brother Marcus? The thinking here is that the Suns may have been opting to go for defense over offense, but Markieff is not that much better of a defender than his brother. He do
I still remember how Raptors fans was very unhappy with drafting ValanΔiΕ«nas, they wanted Kemba, Knight or Vesery over him and Cavs fans kinda wanted ValanΔiΕ«nas. They also was pissed about drafting Tristian.
So after over 6 years, did your opinion change? Or you still prefer not drafting them.

I just think it's super interesting how different basketball was in 2011. People were really doubting that Curry could reach Ray Allen's 2.4 3s per game mark and obviously that number seems crazy low in today's game.
Some highlights:
>I don't think a PG can throw up that many shots.. Especially with Don Nelson gone now. Steph Curry will most likely round out into a more typical PG over time, rather than becoming Monta Ellis 2.0
>i think its gonna take a few years before we see a real threat...
>no one can even catch up to jason kidd....let alone ray allen
>no one in the league right now could do it. Jimmer is the only one with an outside shot but he won't cause he is already 22. Ray has been my favorite player since I was 5 years old. There might be someone that comes up to the league in a few years that is just an insane knockdown shooter like ray but outside of jimmer, I don't think anyone else is even noteworthy.
Hey Guys,
You lot seemed to really enjoy the post on my old account about how the NBA would look if the other team won the finals each year, and i'm back again with a shiny new name and the same crippling boredom that has led me to do another long winded post.
The NBA on TNT All Star Fantasy Draft from 2011 is one of the most entertaining pieces of TV that the guys on Inside The NBA have ever produced, and that's saying something.
Take the time to watch it all the way through if you haven't before!
Personal Highlights:
It's pretty outstanding, and ever since I saw it for the first time I've been trying to figure out who actually had the best team.
So here we go!
Round 1
I mean, what more needs to be said? a brain fart of tremendous proportions. Considering the rest of the names available, AI, as amazing as he was, can't be considered higher than a round 4/5 pick at best. Chuck tries his hardest to alleviate the problem with his next two picks but the damage is done.
Kevin is of course setting a challenge for himself by only picking ex-Celtics players, and I like the pick of Larry Legend, but the fact he didn't take Bill Russell here always perplexes me. Still, it's a great first round pick and sets up Kevin nicely going forward.
History repeats itself as MJ drops to number 3 in the draft. An absolute coup for Reggie and obviously the best possible pick anyone could have made.
This looks like a good pick in isolation; Wilt is without a doubt one of the most dominant regular season players ever, and his numbers are just unparalleled. Something tells me that Chris might regret this decision later down the line...
How better to explain why this is the second best pick of the round than to quote the man himself? "Bill Russell won't distort your offence or your defence. The way I play, my team wins." Love it.
A great pick, there is absolutely no one left on the board who Kenny could have taken instead and I rate it as the third best pick of the round,

When looking at the top 10 picks, there are Kyrie Irving at #1 and Kemba Walker at #9 who have been all star-level talents, but there were also a lot of straight misses: Derrick Williams went #2, Jan Vesely, Bismack Biyombo and Brandon Knight went 6 through 8, and Jimmer Fredette went #10.
Meanwhile, the mid to late first round had quite a few high-quality players: Klay Thompson went to GSW at #11, Kawhi and Vucevic went back-to-back 15 and 16, and Jimmy Butler was picked at #30. Even the last pick of draft (Isaiah Thomas) wound up becoming an 2x All-Star.
That being said, Vuc & Jimmy were projects coming into the league and IT was undersized, but some of those high draft picks are rough to look at.
It turns out 2011 is one of the deeper drafts in recent memory. How would you re-draft the top 15 draft picks?
Edit: **First Round picks of the 2011 draft
Kyrie Irving (2016 Cavaliers, 1st pick)
Tristan Thompson (2016 Cavaliers, 4th pick)
Klay Thompson (2015, 2017, 2018 Warriors, 11th pick)
Kawhi Leonard (2014 Spurs/2019 Raptors, 15th pick)
Iman Shumpert (2016 Cavaliers, 17th pick)
Norris Cole (2012, 2013 Heat, 28th pick)
Cory Joseph (2014 Spurs, 29th pick)
Some other drafts came close, but none had each of the first 50 picks in at least one reg-season or playoff game. Maybe we'll see more of these in the future.
Kawhi Leonard
Kyrie Irving
Jimmy Butler
Klay Thompson
Kemba Walker
Tobias Harris
Nikola Vucevic
Enes Kanter
Nikola Mirotic
Marcus Morris
Isaiah Thomas
Reggie Jackson
Markieff Morris
Brandon Knight
At the time, it wasn't considered to be a great draft, but I was going through the players from it and was kind of amazed. Notable picks:
1: Kyrie Irving 2: Derrick Williams 3: Enes Kanter 4: Tristan Thompson 5: Jonas Valanciunas 7: Bismack Biyombo 8: Brandon Knight 9: Kemba Walker 11: Klay Thompson 12: Alec Burks 13: Markieff Morris 14: Marcus Morris 15: Kawhi Leonard 16: Nikola Vucevic 17: Iman Shumpert 19: Tobias Harris 22: Kenneth Faried 23: Nikola Marotic 24: Reggie Jackson 30: Jimmy Butler 38: Chandler Parsons 60: Isaiah Thomas
Kawhi Leonard (15)
Kyrie Irving (1)
Klay Thompson (11)
Jimmy Butler (30)
Nikola Vucevic (16)
Chandler Parsons (38)
Tobias Harris (19)
Tristan Thompson (4)
Isiah Thomas (60)
Kenneth Faried (22)
Reggie Jackson (24)
Jonas Valancunas (5)
Kemba Walker (9)
Brandon Knight (8)
Very deep draft that also included Derrick Williams (2),Enes Kanter (3), Bismack Biyombo (7), Markieff Morris (14) Nikola Iman Shumpert (17), Donatas Matiejunas (20), Nikola Mirotic (23) & Cory Joseph (29).
