Alberta, a province of Canada, obtains independence after the province of Quebec seceded following the beginning of the Second American Civil War and the collapse of the Canadian economy. An election is held to determine the first president of this new nation.

I'm referring to the Canadian 1993 election where the progressive Conservative party lost all but 2 seats. Wikipedia apparently doens't say who, but I'm really curious who those two were.

In other words, in 1993, they did not re-elect a party in a single riding. Rather surprising for a province that supposedly always votes the same (though of course, when people say this, what they really mean is it always votes right-leaning, even if Reform was a totally different beast from the old PCs). Nova Scotia in 1997 is the only other instance of this feat that I am aware of. P.E.I. only has 4 seats so it might have done it before.

Despite that, two incumbents were re-elected. David Kilgour crossed the floor from the PCs to the Liberals and was re-elected. Deborah Grey won Beaver River in an 1988 by-election and was also re-elected.

• At dissolution, there were also 3 Independent MLAs, 1 Progressive Conservative MLA, and one vacant seat. For legal purposes, the "Progressive Conservatives" and "Wildrose Party" are running 1 candidate each.

• There are three other parties running at least 10 candidates: the Alberta Independence Party (63), Green Party of Alberta (32), and the Alberta Advantage Party (28).

• Three parties are running under 5 candidates: Alberta Communist Party (4), Pro-Life Alberta (1), and the Reform Party (1). Of note, Pro-Life Alberta is the new name of the Alberta Social Credit Party.

Voters across Alberta municipalities will go to the polls today to elect local Mayors, Councillors, and School Trustees. Voters will also participate in local plebiscites and two province-wide referenda on the Equalization formula and Daylight Savings Time. Finally, voters will also nominate Senators-in-Waiting.
