A list of puns related to "1965"
Whenever US race relations comes up in a debate, I always seem to get caught up on this theory that a 300 year status quo of white supremacy somehow faded away once and for all after the Civil Rights era in the 1950s and 60s.
People always ask me to prove that our system of racism is ongoing today. I find it an odd request to prove a negative. I donβt think it ever ended. Itβs not like it cropped up out of nowhere in 1993. White supremacy has dominated US culture and policy for 300 years.
Iβm simply claiming it still exists. Itβs my opponents job to prove that this tradition ended.
Then people say that Civil Rights bills were the nail in coffin of systemic racism. But canβt seem to go into detail on how that solved the system of racism. They say βwell itβs illegal now to not hire someone one, or give care, or mortgage or other services because of race, and US policy canβt be racist. Itβs illegal.β I remind them that beer was illegal once too, but it still sold and was drank all across the country.
Iβm curious if anyone can change my view that claiming systemic ended, because of a new law against it, is like saying drinking ended because of Prohibition.
