[Diplomacy] Imperial Conference of 1923

Once more the Crown calls upon her Colonies and Dominions. It is time for a new conference to discuss the state of the Empire. On the initial agenda are plans to promote economic growth and stability in the Empire and Beyond. Britain welcomes any suggestions and requests to be brought up by it friends. In addition to this, they to discuss and align foreign policy with that of Britain. Concerns on defense and the updating of uniform policy in this regard is to be addressed, as are joint research projects.

Britain also is concerned with the growing unrest in Australia. The governor is to make a report to the Conference on the state of Australia, and why such a state of affairs is being left to fester.

PSA: The UK Imperial Conference focus requires you to also make the decision after you complete it!

Maybe I'm the only dunce to miss this, but when it says "Unlocks Imperial Conference Decisions for 60 days" I thought that meant the decisions would pop up like events over 60 days and you would deal with them, like some other focuses. No. It just makes them available for you to go find and make. By the time I realized something should have happened by now, the 60 days was up and all my prep was wasted and I couldn't do anything. So, yeah. Hopefully this helps someone else avoid the same mistake.

[EVENT] Bill C-7, The Imperial Conference and the Economy

With the Liberals having secured their power, the Prime Minister must respond to both Black Monday and the Entente's preparation for war. In order to do that, the Liberals begun drafting a bill in Parliament in order to address Canada's myriad of issues. Named Bill C-7, the Liberal Party hopes to fix Canada in one years long plan of economical buildup.

Cabinet Minister C.D. Howe presented his plan of the economy, a thoroughly liberal one. His plan focuses on letting the currency float and providing the civilian industry in the country with generous grants and bailouts. In addition to that plan, a focus is being put n the nation's Crown Corporations, key industries ranging from infrastructure to radio to consumer goods. The idea will be to provide jobs and lift Canada out of its current predicament in the most efficient and beneficial way possible. The Tories in the Opposition suggested the plan focus more on the nationalisation of key industires, but eventually it was decided that that would be a matter for another time. The civilian economy had to be helped onto its feet first so that all of Canada might prosper.

The matter of conscription came up several times during the debates regarding bill C-7. One again, the Conservatives pushed for full conscription of able bodied males. It was pointed out many times by Quebecqois MPs and CCF party members that they could not condone such a provision. Eventually it was decided that the Liberals would stick to their promises, and that no conscription would come, relying instead on volunteers. This would mean an intensification of the propaganda campaigns in order to make Canadian WANT to enlist for King and Country.

Finally there was the matter of internal unrest caused by syndicalist and socialist agitators. Although many did not want a secret service, stating that Canada was all in it together, the truth was that Canada would need a secret service if it would ever hope to stem of internal dissent and one day promote dissent in the Union of Britain. A provision was made to bill C-7, providing the Royal Mounties with extended rights, turning it into the defacto successor of MI5 and 6. The 'agency' was placed under the directorship of Maxwell Knight, formerly a spymaster of that organisation.

The Bill was eventually put to vote, and the modd certainly was tense in Parliament for a few moments. But eventually, thanks to the Liberal majority and partial support from certain Conservaties, who believed that 'a' p

[Diplomacy] The Antwerp Conference of 1923

For the sake of restoring political and economic stability on the Continent, and in the Face of German Economic troubles, Prime Minister Bonar Law has asked the fellow great powers and members of the European community to attend a great conference in Antwerp to achieve a better economic harmony for all.

The issues at hand are the ailing German economy, a cancer eating at the European economy, the restoration of global trade, the issue of the gold standard, the place for the defeated powers in the post war economy, and the question of the Soviets in the East, and the possible inclusion in the world economy.

The British delegation will be made up of the Prime Minister, in addition to the recently removed David Lloyd George, due to the pressures from the left in Parliament (much to the Prime Ministers annoyance), as well as a team of economic advisors, one of which being John Maynard Keynes.

Notes from the Imperial Philomath Conference on the Snow Elves: 8/2/20

Hey everyone,

The first Imperial Philomath was a huge success and a really great time overall! We had a lot of topics to cover submitted by ten different people on the sub, and we've compiled our notes for you to check out. Below is a link for them:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qZmwRv9EN8UgoaL7ufrk2qXQW-m1MrLnoglOK4yftXM/edit?usp=sharing

For the TL;DR, here are a few highlights:

  • The Snow Elves fascination with light and Auriel means that they also likely worshipped Magnus and Meridia in their pantheon, similar to what is seen in Ayleids, although to a much lesser degree. They likely saw Meridia in a dualist fashion (Merid Nunda as the Magna Ge, Meridia as the Daedra) similar to that seen with the Orcs and Trinimac / Malacath.
  • The Nords may have learned the art of making stalhrim from the Snow Elves, whose advanced ice magics could imbue it with pure light and use it as a vessel to store the souls of their ancestors.
  • There was likely not one exodus point of the Aldmer across Mundus during the Dawn and Merethic Eras. It is thus possible that the Falmer do not hail from the Summerset Isles but rather Atmora itself.
  • The modern Falmer are actually quite intelligent, but have developed a culture that is extremely cautious and weary of outsiders. They are likely a mosaic of different tribes and cultures, but most are semi-nomadic.
  • The modern Falmer probably have a very different pantheon than that of their ancestors. Most key to their beliefs would be Namira (who would even be elevated to a deity of agriculture for mushrooms), Sithis, and Nocturnal.

A huge thanks to everyone who took part today, and I'm eager to do more of these in the future!
