5.1 or 5.2 surround sound advice.

Recently got a 85" sony x900h and sony x800m2 blu ray player. Now I want to complete my set up.

Looking to spend $500-$1000 but don't mind spending up to $2000 preferably under $1500.

I've got some old, but nice in their day saga speakers (5) I got from my uncle. Still need a receiver and subwoofer. Mentioning this because I can fill in the gaps and upgrade later. Want everything replaced eventually though.

I've read denon is a great brand for a receiver but not sure as what model to get. New to audio and there's a lot I don't know yet. So any advice and knowledge is appreciated as to what features I should be looking for and to why.

Thinking my first purchase will be a good receiver and 1 or 2 subwoofers while I search for deals for the speakers.

Surround sound seems to not work properly in windows 10 sometimes

Been having issues With the AE-5 in a new Ryzen system build on a fresh windows install.

The 5.1 surround sound sometimes just seems to stop working properly. The bass vanishes, Everything sounds wrong.

Playing the 5.1 surround sound test in Command center says its working fine. but the windows test has audio channels all messed up.

The problem is fixed via switching the output device in sound blaster Command. (to speakers then back to headphones)

Attempted fixes: Windows reinstall (happens on fresh windows install)

Driver reinstall

Older driver( less prone to the issue but happens on occasion)

lowering audio quality from 32bit 96000 to 24bit 96000 (whats a good setting?)

I have not tried direct mode yet because i use the active noise canceling feature on the condenser mic i use for voice chat.

Seems like a driver issue to me.

Specs: Ryzen 9 3900x, X570 asus TUF motherboard, GTX 1080ti, NVME SSD, 1 SATA SSD, 3 HDD.

Note: My old system with a intel i77700k did not have this issue.

Just Ryzen drivers not being well designed?

Would love to hear peoples thoughts on drivers.

Problem Surround Sound Windows 10 LG B9 Yamaha rx363

Hello, everybody,

i have a problem setting up my 5.1 system which only outputs stereo.

The system consists of a Windows 10 PC which is connected to a LG B9 via HDMI 2.1 cable. The TV is connected to the Yamaha RX 363 via optical cable.

When using the Netflix software integrated in the device, the 5.1 sound is reproduced correctly.

Unfortunately, no 5.1 sound is played via the PC. Neither games, nor Netflix via Chrome nor videos via VLC pass on 5.1.

Windows itself recognizes the TV correctly and lists the available surround sound formats like dts and dolby digital. 5.1 was selected in the speaker settings. In the sound properties of the device under the tab surround sound "disabled" is selected, the only other available option is "Windows Sonic for headphones".

Thanks for your attention up to here. Please notice that english is not my primary language so optionnames may differ.

Your help would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Roku 2 and Surround Sound - Am i being ridiculous?

UPDATE!! If anyone is still interested or curious, I have solved some of my problem but found a new one. I can NOW get a 5.1 signal from my receiver via and HMDI splitter/extrator (tweaked the setting on the extractor), from my PS4. I can also get a 5.1 signal from my PLEX server via ROKU 2. I changed the audio out setting on the Roku itself and that seemed to do the trick. Wat i still CANT get is a 5.1 signal from that same Roku 2 when watching NETFLIX (using movies that supposedly have a surround sound signal)! I've tried everything. Any ideas why it would be just Netflix now?

So quick background. I'm older and cheap. Used to know a bit about stuff, but feeling like a grumpy old man these days whose out of the loop! At any rate I have a bunch of old equipment that I have tended to keep over the years. One of my newer pieces is my Roku 2, which im very happy with as it meets my needs fine. I use it primarily for Netflix, Disney +, Prime and running my Plex server on it.

I have an old Yamaha HTR 6130 AVR. I have 5 surround speakers plus the sub (I also have 2 larger cabinet speakers I could use just for a better stereo sound). Is there any way/point of trying to run my Roku 2 through this AVR which is sitting around doing nothing. Could i get some kind of surround sound out of it?

Some notes:

  1. The AVR cannot apparently process the audio from an HDMI input, it will just pass it through
  2. My AVR and older TV are not ARC
  3. I purchased an HDMI splitter and audio extractor a few tears back, when i last visited this idea (but then of course hit some kind of dead end and stopped, and the idea got lost......)
  4. So back to trying this again, i think I run the HDMI from my Roku 2 to the splitter. From there run an optical out to the AVR for the audio and the HDMI out to the TV for the video. So presumably the receiver could take the audio from the optical input and process it. At this point it gets into PCM 2.0, matrix something or other and DD+, and a few other things I'm not smart enough to know about even after researching.

Is all my crap just too old to even get any benefit here? I mean i guess it also all depends what the audio formats are from the various source materiels. I'd even take a nice stereo sounds through those cabinet speakers.

Not sure if there is any kind of answer to my meandering thoughts, but thank you a ton if you actually read this far!!

Chromecast Ultra help. 4k picture with surround sound on a hdmi 2.0 AVR.

Hi all, looking for some advice on my situation I have going on with my setup. I'm trying to get both 4k picture on my TV and surround sound on my receiver and I'm having trouble figuring out how to make that work.

First of all my components:

AVR: Denon X4100-W TV: Samsung UN65TU7000F Chromecast Ultra 5.2 speaker setup

First problem is my receiver is capable of 4k passthrough, but doesn't have HDMI 2.1 ports, just the older 2.0 ones. So I currently have my CC Ultra plugged into my receiver to get the 5.1, but am limited to 1080p. I was thinking of plugging the CC U into the TV to get the 4k picture but then I'm not sure how to get the surround sound back to the receiver. I tried the optical out port on the TV and plugged it into the receiver but I only seemed to get a stereo signal. My TV has e-arc but I'm not really sure what that is or how to get it to work.

If anyone had a solution to this problem I'd be glad to hear it, even if it means buy some small hardware. I want to get a better receiver eventually but it's not on the cards right now.

Thanks for your time!

Sound Issues surround 7.1 & Stereo on Windows 10

Hi, im having this issue where my windows sound is defaulted to surround 7.1 (i use realtek high definition audio), i tried to change it back to Stereo and it said it had changed but the sound was still 7.1. It's lowering my mic volume when i open games. I've uninstalled the audio driver and rebooted and still it's not working. Something similar happened a while back so i had to roll back my version of windows which seemed to fix it, but now i've done nothing different and this has happened. Please help

Trying to get surround sound emulation in Windows 10

I know of Windows Sonic and dont like it.

Let me start by saying that I am running USB audio into a dac and then back out to a 2.1 receiver on Windows 10 20H2

I have a phone where I use Viper4Android over BT and love the things I can do with it in my car and headphones. I want to be able to do the same in Windows. The "sound card" on my Gigabyte does not sound as good as my DAC.

I want to be able to manipulate the sound to give me virtual center channel, widening the sound field, etc. I AM running EqualizerAPO and Peace software. Cannot find any plugins for surround or virtual surround.

I am not above changing software if needed. It would be nice to use in conjunction with Eq APO/Peace.

Thanks

Forcing surround sound through HDMI arc, Windows 10

I have a problem.

I have an LG TV and the LGSK10Y soundbar, which are connected through HDMI ARC. The PC is connected through HDMI to the LG TV.

(PC <- LG TV -> Soundbar) = only stereo.

I've recently upgraded the setup to include backspeakers (5.1 -> 7.1) and wanted to do my gaming on the PC, with full surround. Problem is that Windows sound settings only allow me to configure the soundbar output for stereo.

If I connect the PC to the soundbar instead, it works, but unfortunately the frames drop immensely or screen tearing ensues, making it a non-viable option.

(PC <- Soundbar -> LG TV) = Poor frames.

Any ways to force Windows 10 to output 7.1?
