Really not sure I understand what the difference between these groups is in Italy, not why one group became such a big deal in America while the other two remained irrelevant, also does American LCN have any real ties to Italian LCN or do they seldom interact or care for each other? Like in the sopranos the jersey pricks have some illegal car operation between them and the guys living in Italy, they go over there and there is real respect between the two. Well jersey respects the real Italians, and I guess the Italian bosses took Tony seriously but laughed at Paulie was basically being too stupid to talk to them
At the start of the 20th century a lot of Italians moved to the US. This somewhat automatically brought Mafiosi with it or at least the customs. The American Mafia has been in serious decline for nearly 2 decades and I'm wondering why the Italian Mafias (like Cosa Nostra, Camorra, Ndrangheta) don't try to march in and take over. They aren't grounded in the US like the American Mafia ofcourse but the financial possibilities must be tempting, no? They could even distance themselves from the old American families and set up in other less Mafia related states. The Italian Mafias are generally considered to have been hurt but still thriving with a good recruitment pool of impoverished youths. Something the American Mafia is seriously lacking
It is becoming increasingly clear that in the UK specifically, cocaine is no longer just a ‘yuppie’ drug but one that people from all classes are using.
This is especially evident from the enormous cocaine shipments being seized in Britain, which until recently were considered unimaginable by the National Crime Agency (NCA).
Lawrence Gibbons, the drug threat lead for the NCA, has recognised that these hauls also point to a tendency for increased risk-taking by organised crime groups.
Most strikingly, British gangs are collaborating more with international crime groups, like Italy’s powerful ‘Ndrangheta mafia clan, which controls much of Europe’s cocaine trade:
Such a relationship with the ’Ndrangheta mafia allows British-based groups to tap into the huge buying power and contacts of one of the world’s richest criminal groups.
In 2013, Europol estimated the ’Ndrangheta’s turnover was £44bn — greater than McDonald’s and Deutsche Bank combined. That’s a turnover of about R890 billion.
In 2018, the ‘Ndrangheta’s annual turnover was estimated to be around a similar figure.
1,716 British organised criminal groups are involved in drugs supply, according to the NCA, and they’re using their connections to get the big jobs done:
A number of them are buying cocaine direct from the South American cartels using intermediaries or sources forged by the ’Ndrangheta, along with corrupt officials at ports like Rotterdam and Antwerp, where the drug often arrives into Europe.
This sort of organisation is what leads to massive seizes like the two-tonne cocaine shipment worth about £160 million on a yacht off south Devon a few days ago, with six men arrested.
The UK’s “war on drugs” continues to escalate, with home secretary Priti Patel urging police forces to “make an example” out of middle-class cocaine users by naming and shaming them.
- Un processo su due morirà in appello.
- I tempi non verranno ridotti.
- Tempo perso per reati poi cancellati.
- L’iscrizione retrodatata appesantirà i processi.
Hello guys
Do you have any Ndrangheta related movies/documentary or series to recommend to me ? You can also recommend books (Brazilian portuguese preferred, but can also read in english as well).
I'm interested in learning more about the organization itself, about its history, its mores and habits and it's codes of conduct.
I appreciate any recommendations. Thanks.
End of the inaction for Damiano Cosimo Gallace (1961), wanted for a year because he was sentenced to serve a 14-year prison sentence for mafia-type association. The operation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Investigation Unit of Catanzaro, with a decisive intervention implemented by the GIS (Special Intervention Group) supported by the Carabinieri by the Calabria Heliborne Squadron Hunters.
Gallace, believed to be the regent of the homonymous' ndrina, was hiding in Isca Sullo Ionio in an apartment in a building with an adjoining aggregate quarry of a local concrete production company.
At the moment of the bust, the fugitive was not immediately tracked down in the house although his 34-year-old mate and his 4-year-old daughter were there, resting in the bedroom. However, the presence of the wanted person inside the house was considered certain precisely due to the presence of his family unit at that time and in that place away from the usual residence of Guardavalle. Gallace, after a long and thorough search, was found and captured inside a bunker with access hidden by a false wall placed under a mirror in the bedroom. The door of the hiding place, connected to a mechanical device, could only be opened by turning one of the three knobs, the central one, of an adjacent wall hanger. During the search, the following were found and seized: 1 trolley containing about 35,000 euros in cash, 1 tablet, 9 mobile phones, 2 of which were damaged by the interested party before being discovered in the bunker, various sim cards not yet active and the hard disk the video surveillance system with a monitor next to the TV in the dining room to monitor the area outside the house 24 hours a day, which is also equipped with an alarm and a large guard dog.
Gallace, boss of the homonymous 'ndrina of Guardavalle with joints in Anzio (RM), Nettuno (RM), in Lombardy, Piedmont and Tuscany, was wanted from 25 November 2020 for the execution of a prison order, issued by the Appellate court of Rome, as he was sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment for mafia-type association and association aimed at illicit drug trafficking. In addition, an order for custody in prison is also pending against him, issued on March 15, 2021 by the investigating judge of the Court of Catanzaro and at the time of the arrest notified to the interested party, for investigations coordinated by the local DDA with reference to the crime of association aimed at drug trafficking. For taking part in the so-call
... keep reading on reddit ➡In Europe these groups are serious criminal organizations and at least according to their wikipedia pages considered legit peers to Cosa Nostra and other big Russian, Albanian and other criminal enterprises. Why did they not make the jump to the US in the same way? Less immigration from their stomping grounds to the US in the numbers Sicilians immigrated at key times?
