Putin's People (2022) How Vladimir Putin and the small group of KGB men surrounding him rose to power and looted their country, how apartment bombings helped enable his presidency, and how he replaced the freewheeling tycoons of the Yeltsin era with a new generation of loyal oligarchs. As an American, I facepalmed when I found out that we supported the guy.

Just slightly less dumb than the time when it was totally legal to put borax in food.

Why were people like Gorbachev and Yeltsin allowed to take power in the USSR?

In the final years of the USSR, Gorbachev and Yeltsin were arguably the biggest figures in Soviet politics. Several other prominent leaders were regional nationalists themselves or personally withdrawn from the question of secession. These were the people who presided over the Soviet state as the USSR dissolved into history.

Why was this allowed to happen? Why would the "vanguard of the revolution" take such disastrous steps against their own system?

On another note, what could have been done at any point to preserve the USSR into the 21st century?

Why Boris Yeltsin is the best Russian President for TNO

Hi fellas,

Just wanted to let you know that Boris Yeltsin is the best Russian President in TNO. Period. Here's why.

  1. Youthful, charismatic, and looks good - absolute boss

  2. Gulag rehabilitation

  3. Best civil liberties program possible

  4. Most robust national economic system in the world

  5. Russian poverty cut by two thirds

  6. The restoration of Russian honor with the return of Western Russia and the state of Alaska

  7. The victory of progressive LPR senators in the great Central Siberia. (I'm looking at you, Tomsk)

  8. Law and Order - Safety and Security on the streets

  9. A good upgrade of the national infrastructure and the Russian Federation Armed Forces.

  10. Unions strengthened, hunger reduced, the environment protected, and old people taken care of.

What is not necessary?

Communism is not necessary, an overkill space program is not necessary, the Tsar is not necessary, Alexei is not necessary, a witch-hunt of the unions is not necessary, jingoism is not necessary, a far right surge from the Batov administration is not necessary, and lastly, extremism is not necessary.

What is necessary?

Ensuring the vodka, protection, and well-being of Russian farmers, workers, students, and other Russians too is necessary. That is Yeltsin's job and goal, and it is executed perfectly.

Thank you for listening, and goodbye for now
