I do think children should go first when it comes to things but women shouldn't go first just because they are a woman. And this goes for anything, food, shelter, going first in line. Whatever it doesn't matter. This is mainly pertaining shelter and natural disaster type situations though. It's always women and children first. Adult women are not more valuable than an adult male and should be seen as easily replaceable. Men should not have to go last just because they are a man and history says women come first with that stuff. It's harmful to the "everyone is equal" movement that has been going on for the best several years.

It is relatively easier for an adult who just lost their everything to move on and start a new life than an orphan or a single parent or any other dependant person.
Thus, fit and able adults can lead a better life as survivors than others.
Couldn't argue since many of us prefered to eat the children first since the meat was still fresh.
Beginning in 1769, an English explorer named Samuel Hearne began a series of expeditions in northern Canada in an attempt to discover the Coppermine River. Although the river is now known to be of little practical value, it was rumored at the time to be abounding with copper deposits. The Hudson's Bay Company therefore began a concentrated effort to discover the river and determine if it would be beneficial to the North American fur trade.
Mr. Hearne set out from a fort on the shores of Hudson Bay in 1769 in an attempt to find the river. After two false starts, during which he nearly froze and starved to death countless times, his third expedition reached the shores of the Coppermine in July of 1771. He found the river to be of little value, totally unnavigable, and devoid of the wealth of copper rumored to exist there.
In the months preceding his discovery, Mr. Hearne began to realize that his Indian guides, led by the chieftain Matonabbee, were not solely focused on showing the European where the river was. Matonabbee and his band of Copper Indians began preparing for battle, carving shields from wood and leaving the women and children behind. The Copper Indians evidently intended to make war on the local Inuits, known historically as the "Esquimaux".
As the white man proceeded to survey the river, some Copper Indians discovered an Esquimaux encampment on the banks of the river. According to Mr. Hearne's account of the expedition:
> "When the Indians received this intelligence, no farther attendance or attention was paid to my survey, but their whole thoughts were immediately engaged in planning the best method of attack, and how they might steal on the poor Esquimaux the ensuing night, and kill them all while asleep. To accomplish this bloody design more effectually, the Indians thought it necessary to cross the river as soon as possible; [...] Accordingly, after the Indians had put all their guns, spears, targets, &c. in good order, we crossed the river, which took up some time."
The Copper Indians then prepared for combat:

Men are most likely to provide resources for other people in the world. You could argue that this has changed in the West, but in the entire world, this remains to be the case. When shit hits the fan, men are relied upon the most as a matter of fact and biology in life. Most soldiers are men. Thus, through a function of value, they are the most important lives that need to be saved.
Women nurture and provide less resources than men but are more valuable than babies since they have lived longer and the number of people who rely on them are more than the number of people who rely on babies for their livelihood.
Babies should be the last people to be saved since no one relies on them yet and because their lives have just started and thus there is no dependence on them.
