Hi, I'm a prospective senior in high school, and I've already been accepted to Mines and I'm probably going to accept. I've heard about Themed Learning Communities, and since I'm pretty dedicated to my school's orchestra as a cellist, I was considering applying for the Visual and Performing Arts Themed Learning Community. Is it worth it? Does it have any extra benefits for someone who wants to perform? And, if it isn't worth it, then is there a residence hall you guys recommend? I watched the video discussing each one but I'm still not sure.
In addition, are there any classes that I would have to take to be in the Mines orchestra? Maybe a music minor I would be required to complete?
Also, other posts have said that the Mines orchestra is really laid back and if that's the case, is there a more rigorous one near Mines that I could join while still living on campus? I really want to continue playing the cello I'm just not sure how to continue to challenge myself with it while at Mines since its more engineering focused than most schools.
I saw the posting for the RRRA position as their Abstentions manager so a few friends and I applied thinking it would be a nice job for the school year. Usually how these positions work is everybody is given an interview to get a chance to prove themselves for the position (well, thatβs how it works in the real world), however everybody I know who applied just got completely rejected from even getting an interview to apply for the position. That alone I just think is super disrespectful for students. I understand if certain unqualified candidates didnβt receive an interview, but it seems as though they just chose to completely reject everybody who applied and just chose to interview the select people in their inner circle (students first affiliated individuals). This just goes back to the problem students like me who have been at Carleton for so long are struggling with, that no matter how qualified an individual is for a position, itβs always handed down to or handed to individuals who seem to have been around since the Students First era days.
I thought the situation was super odd and I looked into the situation more. The rejection Email received was signed by the βRRRA Hiring Boardβ but turns out RRRA hasnβt had a hiring board in forever. It doesn't exist. And itβs just been there to make students believe their hiring process is fair, but when I asked around and to past councillors friends itβs just been the VPA every single year who just gets to choose their inner circle of friends to be selected for these paid positions that us regular students donβt even have a chance to get and sometimes need. Flat out lying to students, especially when rejecting them from a position and playing it off as if itβs a panel of unbiased individuals on a hiring board doing it when itβs just one individual person getting to pick their inner circle is the definition of corruption. Itβs crazy how students pay a crazy fee to associations every single year hoping they will pay us back in jobs and opportunities and itβs time and time again handed to Students First associated individuals.
I felt that before I went public with this, I would contact the current VPA, Mira and give her a fair chance at explaining the situation. I explained how the process is less than transparent and called out the complete lies about the hiring board as well as explain that it seems as though everybody you didnβt know somehow just magically was rejected from the position. She complet
... keep reading on reddit β‘I'm curious about which one performs better in resource(cpu and memory) utilization wise.
If VPA performs better is there any disadvantage of making lots of replica sets?
BTW Im majoring in ECE, so wondering what is best to ease into college without being overwhelmed. Also what are some good classes?
