Wanting to stand on the escalator because you’re not in a rush but there’s nobody in front of you so you have to follow the unwritten rule of walking up the steps to appease everyone behind you who were probably looking forward to standing too but now have to join in and walk up the steps as well.

Why do we do this?

Edit:

I feel obliged to defend myself a bit… of course I believe in standing on the right to let walkers by on the left! I’m not an animal.

I just feel obliged to walk on the right-hand side if there’s nobody stationary in front. And from my experience (on the Metro in Newcastle btw, not London - and at the station that inspired my post today there are no stairs) others appear to do the same if unimpeded by other stationary travellers on the right hand side.

Maybe I’m just weird.

Why do fights between guys usually have unwritten rules, but chick fights are all-out?

When dudes fight I rarely see biting, hair pulling, nutshots, or any of the usual pussy shit.

Girls just seem to go all out. I’ve never seen a chick fight without hair pulling

Is there any actual reason for this?

Unwritten Rules of Physical Card Manipulation

What are your habits when it comes to how you actually move the physical cards in the battlefield? Here are some "rules" of my normal playgroup that I'm always surprised when I don't see others do:

  • When declaring a creature as an attacker, I'll push that creature a little bit forward towards the enemy as I tap it, returning it to the line after the combat is over
  • When targeting something on the battlefield with a spell, I'll physically touch the target with the tip of the spell's card
  • When playing things like Evolving Wilds that enter the battlefield just to be sac'd in the same action, I will still place it on the table, then tap it, then lift it from the table.

Beginner here, any unwritten rule I should know about?

Hey,

I just started playing this game, and still learning. I played a game as a survivor and once we repaired all the generators, the killer was just letting us leave without any resistance. Later I did a game as a killer, and killed that last person who tried to escape, but then he was angry at me in the lobby.
I was wondering if there was an unwritted rule about that? Like, you should let the survivors win if they repair everything. Or did I just happen to play with weirdos? I don't know if it's just a fair play thing or whatever, or if these guys were just trolling. Thanks in advance.

What unwritten rules do you learn only AFTER becoming a home owner?

I have some. This is mostly suburbs living. Rural and city will have their own.

  1. Your neighbors will magically become arborists as soon as you trim more than 10% of any tree on your property.

You will finally have a conversation with that neighbor that hasn’t bothered to do more than wave at you, and will offer tons of advice about what you CAN’T do with YOUR tree on YOUR property because of the major impact to them, or the neighborhood, or the city, or global climate change.

They will also educate you on how it’s a protected species.

  1. If a fence is in fair to good condition, then your neighbor will claim it belongs to them. If the fence is in major disrepair or has recently fallen, your neighbor will disavow all knowledge of how and when the fence was erected or who owns it.

When you explain to them that based on the way it was constructed and city code (posts on their side, flat side facing out), it would have been installed by them or by a previous owner. They will say, β€œSays who?”

When you tell them that it was 3 fence contractors you had out to take a look for options for repair or replace, they will perform some mental gymnastics and give you some answer regarding how these 3 fence contractors are not qualified to make that determination.

There will be no fence permit recorded by the city.

  1. Every project you undertake will require that you uncover at least one additional project that needs to be addressed before the original project can be completed or create a new one by you breaking something while you were working on the original project.

  2. You will NEVER complete a project with a single visit to a home store (see item 3 above).

  3. If you borrow a tool from a neighbor, and it works amazingly, after the project is completed, you will go out and buy that tool.

It will sit in the original packaging for months (maybe years).

EDIT: So many awards. Thank you all. I’ve laughed a lot today from your responses and my wife’s been asking me what’s so funny all day. I’ve shared some choice one. Thanks and take care.
