A list of puns related to "Umbri"
Trying to build a very low to the ground [[umbris]] deck. when I play test it, I'm not getting enough ramp. Want there to be enough creatures that I can eventually exile their entire library. Went with mainly a horror creature theme since they're lower cmc. Have [[reflections of litjarra]] to double up on nightmare horrors and panharmonicon to do it again. I just don't know what cuts to make to add roughly 5 more ramp cards or even what cards to add for ramp
Been playing Umbris recently and while i get he is not something that anyone wants hanging around, outside of basic counter spells, how do I give him a little protection so I can at least keep him on the board for more than one go around?
Pulled a Umbris and I'm trying to build a deck for it, not sure what path to take, looking at edhrec I see a lot of suggestions of horror/nightmare creatures so I feel like a lot of people are using the deck more as a tribal for these types, but I'm not really sold on that plan, there are a bunch of low quality creatures on those lists that feel pretty random without any logic besides their typing.
My current idea is trying to play heavy control with a bigger than usual amount of graveyard hate and maybe give a bit of preference to exile based removal, I feel like that's a stronger approach to the deck (but maybe a bit more boring).
I guess the more tribal deck might be able to win by exiling libraries if they can trigger Umbris a lot of times, but I really want to try winning by commander damage in this deck.
For the people that have already built a deck for Umbris, what works best? Am I underrating the more "tribal" decks?
Been wanting to make this deck for a while but wasn't really sure the direction. A lot of the horrors are kind of bad to make it pure tribal.
Was thinking maybe making it pure GY hate/exile. In all the games I've played since that set has released, I haven't run into an umbris player yet.
Just wondering if anyone has run this deck, has an example and a bit of deck tech ideas.
[[Umbris, Fear Manifest]]
Okay, so my main question here is based on the following scenario.
1- Reflections of Littjara is on my field
2- I cast Umbris, Fear Manifest and it resolves
3- Original Umbris and Token Umbris hit the battlefield
4- Legendary Rule will make me sacrifice one of them
My question here is, since I have two Umbris entering the battlefield at the same time, Original Umbris and Token Umbris, each one of them will trigger it's ability " Whenever Umbris or another Nightmare or Horror enters the battlefield under your control, target opponent exiles cards from the top of their library until they exile a land card. "
So, I have 2 Exile triggers, one from each Umbris ETB
My question is: Will I have +2 Exiles triggers, since each Umbris will trigger from the other entering at the same time, since they are both Horror/Nightmares?
Umbris, Fear Manifest - 3UB
Legendary Creature - Nightmare Horror
>Umbris gets +1/+1 for each card your opponent's own in exile.
>Whenever ~ or another Nightmare or Horror enters the battlefield under your control, target opponent exiles cards from the top of their library until they exile a land card.
>1/1
Finally a legend for all you Nightmare, Horror, or just exile mill fans out there. This card will certainly be loved by their player but hated by everyone else and I can't wait to see it in action. Even if I may dislike it being used on me.
Love to hear what the community thinks about this mid-level [[Umbris, Fear Manifest]] deck. I built it to be a fun, casual deck with lots of synergy and a few easy win cons.
Any big budget Dimir pieces it's missing? Anything wasteful?
Commander: [[Umbris, Fear Manifest]]
Budget: Less than $400
Meta: Blind
Goal: Fun Deck that can at least have a small chance of winning at Competitive tables, Fun and crazy interactions are what I'm mostly interested in.
Deck list: https://scryfall.com/@MadcapHero/decks/1d94fe39-d55c-4985-955e-5ba48f1ce44b
Main Win Cons: Umbris commander damage, Umbris + [[Rite of Consumption]], or Umbris + [[Alter of Dementia]]
Alternate Win Cons: [[Living Death]]
I took a lot of inspiration for this list from budget Yuriko lists, but tried to give it its own identity. Anyways feel free to tear it apart, all input is good input.
Edit: I made a lot of changes to the list, and went over my budget by 260 dollars (lol), but I feel like I made a fun competitive deck.
Added [[Woe Strider]] for [[Nim's Death mantle]] + [[Ashod's altar]] combo giving Umbris infinite ETB triggers since Woe Strider is a Horror, also acts as another sac outlet if I go infinite through iso-rev combo.
Fixed the land base for tainted pact to work.
Added more mana rocks, counters, and tutors.
Added [[Emry, Lurker of the Lock]], and [[Mishra's Bauble]] for synergy and a potential infinite draw if I can get a dramatic reversal loop going. Also works with [[Lotus Petal]] for infinite colorless mana.
Removed filler that didn't further my game plans.
I didn't remove Leyline of the Void because we really want as many cards as possible exiled from our opponent's graveyard, so instead I added [[Helm of Obedience]] For an additional combo win... This also pairs well with iso-rev and our new artifact tutors.
[[Moonsilver Key]] was an interesting find, can fetch Ashod's altar or sol ring
Feel free to keep commenting your thoughts on how I can improve. I'll check the post periodically.
Here a budget list that stays under $350: https://scryfall.com/@MadcapHero/decks/39ae806c-4d78-4077-9709-afccd5e039d3/build
SoI got 2 questions.
Is there cards that I am not aware of that could fill a good spot at mass exiling some cards.
And when I'm casting cards like [[jester's cap]] or [[nightmare incursion]] , what should I deny the target immedialty? First combo pieces and then in order : tutors - interactions - card draw ?
Hi there! Deck: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/tTUL53FZZ0Kc5SeXhD0Csw
I've been building this deck to showcase the strength of this commander + plus some of my fav cards i've come across since playing mtg. Overall trying to keep things budgeted under 100 euros.

Would appreciate any feedback from this community! :) Thank you

Hi, keen for some feedback on my [[umbris]] list.
Here:
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/mq942IP1f0eOaB_Z-SnhFA
Seems like an interesting new legendary and a different sorta deck to the ones I normally make :).
Aiming for a medium power level, so have gone a Voltron route with no blink etb loops or really that much straight milling...
The plan is to use a load of exile effects + hopefully umbris's triggered ability to get up to one shot territory then evade/haste and swing in. Have included a fair few nightmares/horrors but only ones that are worth playing without my commander out as I can see him getting killed a fair bit.
My question as someone who normally doesn't use this kind of strategy is if my balance of protection/haste/evasion/pump spells(exile effects) seems like it could work.
Any feedback on card selection or suggestions also massively appreciated! Which way are other people taking it?
Also one last thing.... Do people reckon cabal coffers / uborg / crypt ghast are worth it in this deck. Thinking alot of the effects let me play other peoples stuff from exile, so a possible big boost of mana could be worth it.
Thanks guys!

Not Reserved List, but only 1 print from Saga at uncommon means there aren't that many of these out there. Its coincidentally a decent card, a plus for sure, and I believe it works fine with Helm (edit: it does not, but Helm should still be on your radar when it comes to this deck). I'm not the biggest EDH player out there, but I think that Umbris is going to be popular for the fact that who doesn't want to be attacking with a Cloaked 20/20 commander in the most disruptive color pairing? He/she is an absolute slam dunk, it could be the most popular commander for the next few months.
There are certainly similar cards to Planar Void that fit better into the deck, IE Leyline of The Void and Rogue Class (and many more I'm sure). But these cards have absurdly high supply, and though they could definitely see some gains, I don't believe to the same extent as Void. Void is simple, to the point, and as cheap as it gets (in both casting cost and monetary value). It is overwhelmingly obvious.
Full disclosure: I'm a few dozen deep. There have been approximately 100 or so copies purchased on the usual platforms since its been spoiled, so I'm certainly not the first one to come to this conclusion.
Update: Within the past 12 hours the number of listings on TCG has gone from 155 to 77, and there are only a handful of NM copies left. Not sure why it hasn't spiked on MTG stocks yet. Card Kingdom has zero in stock, and many of the other go-to's are drying up as well. At the current trajectory, there's no doubt it becomes a $10 card within the next couple of weeks.
I'd also just like to say be careful loading up on the overly obvious suspects IE Voidwalker, Crypt, Relic, Leyline, Ashiok, etc. There are SO many cards that have this sort of effect, and almost all of them have absurdly high supply. No doubt some of them see substantial gains, but at this point its just too early to tell which ones they are. Just keep a mental note of which stores have high amounts in stock and check tcg/ebay sold regularly so you can buy before / during the spike.
I'm super interested in making a combo Nightmare/Horror tribal deck with a mill undertone (or maybe overtone?) with the newly revealed Umbris.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/uaDBbuPtnEmA6zJ_1v8Zow
I'ved pulled together a list of 118 115 cards and I'm not sure how best to clean this up. Which cards should I cut? Am I missing any staples for this style of deck?
Hi all,
Since the fear boi has been spoiled, I started brewing him for my mill/exile commander deck.
I was looking at several cards and videos and found some nice cards, but need more spicy stuff.
Here are my finds so far (apart from the cards from edhrec and the reveal thread):
[[Mnemonic Betrayal]] - Insane card by itself for mill and even crazier, because it pumps your boi by a ton.
[[Bitter Ordeal]] - not exile, but goes well with mill cards like [[Traumatize]]
[[Shadow Kin]] - Mill + Exile 1 card + copy that creature? Hell yeah!
[[Spellskite]] - Horror + Magnet for removal? Yep!
[[Siphon Insight]] - Instant pump our commander for 1? Get a playable card out of it? Nice.
[[Imperious Mindbreaker]] & [[Doom Weaver]] - both fly under the radar, because they aren't in the "official" normal booster boxes afaik. Mindbreaker is insane, because it mills each opponent and you can attack with your big feary boi!
What did you find? Any super spicy cards no one mentioned yet?
There are many decks that win by milling a bit, but I want to win specifically through decking.
I already have a Phenax deck that definitely manages to deck all three opponents, but it's not very robust and often requires the same few wincons to not fall completely flat.
I'm wondering if Umbris could be a better mill machine since it denies GY synergies and has a different mill trigger. Playing Mill+Horrors could be more fun than Mill+Toughness. We still don't get over the single target hurdle, though, and having big GYs is a huge part of what makes Phenax actually capable of milling people out (get +40/+40 for cards in GY and mill someone else for that much).
Imagine getting out a token swarm with Arcane Adaption/Conspiracy/Maskwood Nexus/Xenograft, though. Is that still just most likely to get roughly (37/100)β’nb tokens? Maybe Umbris is more suitable for a primarily voltron build?
I'm curious as to the community's thoughts on these as either a long-term spec or current value hold.
Both of these are only available as a mythic in supplementary slots for Set Booster (wildcard) and collector boosters (commander slot with 32 rare and 6 mythics).
I haven't opened set boosters but the drop rate feels abysmal for either on these in CBs (1 in 3 boxes for me with 2 total VOC mythics in 3 boxes).
Both of these cards are pretty good. Wedding ring isn't cedh material but it is a decent powered draw engine for white with some political components. Umbris can turn into a nasty threat really quickly while denying your enemy combo pieces.
If neither of these are reprinted soon, I'm not sure how far they'll drop just by supple from Vow set/cbs.
But maybe I'm wrong?
Hey Folks,
It's November, which means it's NOVEMBREW - an annual charity drive where I post a deck list and deck tech every day all month to raise donations for SickKids children's hospitals!
Our latest deck is the new [[Umbris, Fear Manifest]] with a horror/nightmare commander that gets bigger and bigger with every card in exile - and in our format that can be HUGE! Check out the full video with links to deck lists here.
If you want to help support this charity event please check out the donations page here.
Let me know what you'd add to this list to help this combo out!
As always, good luck & have fun!
Hey folks! Just wanted to share a brew I got going with [[Umbris, Fear Manifest]]. Saw a couple different directions possible and went for my own interpretation. Going for a more control mill/exile library wincon with back up being [[shadowspear]] and a big comandie boi. I could probably add more evasion in the deck but wanted to keep the focus on mill/control. I don't know of any infinites yet but there's some good value loops I think are very worthwhile that make him strong but not broken.
Lemme know what yall think! Umbris seems like a super unique commander and one that finally tickles my Dimir fancy.

[[Umbris, Fear Manifest]]
The goals of this deck are:
Win via milling opponents decks into exile
If (1) isn't possible, mill enough to easily swing in for lethal with Umbris himself
Important consideration:
I am specifically trying to build a "mid-tier" or maybe even low-tier commander. Something around the level of a recent precon, maybe slightly higher. The strategy itself is janky, and Voltron is inherently lower power, though since it pumps via the main strategy it's not truly "Voltron".
Strategy:
Most of the creatures in the deck are either Nightmares or Horrors. The idea is to be able to trigger Umbris enough times that I deny an opponent their wincon as well as make Umbris big enough to swing for lethal.
Removal is kind of "prophylactic" in that I've got cards like [[Bitter Ordeal]] and [[Neverending Torment]] to be able to search other player's libraries for their threats and exile them.
I'm mainly looking for advice on "obvious" cuts or includes that I've missed. I will always have to evaluate for power level so I don't accidentally make this oppressive.
For example, [[Mystical Tutor]] seems like an obvious include given that an early Tasha's will be practically game winning. So I haven't included it.
Thanks!

Fell in love with this commander's design right when I saw it and built a deck immediately. I would love to get some help from the EDH community on what I should maybe cut/add to the deck to refine it before I start buying the missing cards.
I took a more control approach with a light a Horror/Nightmare tribal theme. Lots of counterspells and ways to protect my commander with loads of draw.
Let me know what I could do to improve this, all help is appreciated
In this weeks video we duke it out with the commanders that we all liked the most from the latest set Crimson Vow.
After playing this game and a couple others against commanders from this set I feel its safe to say that they are all freaking busted. Or at the minimum viable in almost any commander group.
What do you all think?
Any commanders you built or want to build from this set?
NEW VIDEO: https://youtu.be/NpA6CiFSAWQ
I haven't seen anyone attempt the more traditional mill gameplan with Umbris yet, so I put together what I thought the list would look like.
Here is the deck.
The biggest advantage of this version(over the tribal version) would be independence from your commander. This way you can save your commander in the command zone until he is beefy enough to take people out, which also lets you focus more on developing your mana/hand in the early. It also helps that the best of the nightmares/horrors play into the spellslinger version very well.
This is a small Italian craft brewery that I had on a trip to Italy. Love their beer, but it is expensive to ship from Europe (49 euro) and I would to find someone in the US that carries it. Google searches have turned up almost no results.
Hey there everyone,
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/BkkzYlsDRUS1eLsqcoIjgg
I recently put together a list for the one legendary creature from Crimson Vow that caught my interest. As I was building, had different directions between the mill exile and the tribal aspects but decided in the end to focus more on the tribal aspect of Umbris since I enjoy tribal decks a lot.
Happy how the curve is looking and the disputation between the 2 colors. Just wanting to see if anyone had any suggestions for maybe better horrors/nightmares or some neat cards that work well with exile. My budget for decks tend to land around the $200 dollar range, so I don't normally add the expensive staples to my decks.
There are a couple cards I'm not really high on and would likely replace, just not sure what to replace. Mostly [[ Falthis, Shadowcat Familiar]] & [[ Slum Reaper]] seem on the weaker side.
Thanks guys!
Been off of mtgo for a while.. I see umbris is on there if you set quantity to zero, but I canβt find anywhere online or any bot to get it from. Any ideas of somewhere to get him?
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/muheIRqujECsU-_Dae4Uhg
I'm looking for help building this since I may have cut too much in the wrong way. I know I need more lands but I'm especially not sure about my noncreature package.
The main gimmick is to use cards like [[uba mask]] and [[shared fate]] and the like to keep everyone's exile piles to one shot with umbris. At one point [[Geralf's Masterpiece]] was in but I couldn't validate it when the plan A is to be almost hellbent replacing your draws.
Any recommendations since this is my first deck built from scratch, especially since I never play black decks in EDH.
Name: Neliv "Aethild" Umbri.
Race: Human.
Age: 15.
Class: Foul Blood.
Role: Ranged Damage/Melee Damage.
Appearance: Androgynous in appearance, They have a very lean build, standing at 5'6. With faded uneven hair that goes to halfway down their neck, and light grey eyes on a softly-built face, despite rigid expressions. Said eyes pupils will dilate to cover the whole iris when focused, and dilate inward rather than outward. Neliv wears a white suit: the suit is very plain, with long white pants, a coat with long sleeves and a collar. The coat appears to fasten at the front and back.
Voice: They have a rather unassuming and small voice, befitting of their personality. It often has an air of sadness clung to it, unless their tone changes to agitated or giggly.
Background: Born to the caring Nicoli Umbri, and the wicked lady Vaerline Umbri. Though Nicoli cared for them rightfully, he was denied much contact due to his dangerous experimentation. This led them to being in the company of their mother, often not ending well for them...Their mother saw them as weak, a pathetic creature not fit to continue her legacy. Nicoli, was forced to actively prevented any of her attempts to end the child Neliv. Conceded to the cunning of her husband, she set her own way to torture the child as they grew up, binding a curse to Neliv's blood. This attempt managed to backfire, rather causing their body to use what it'd suppressed from their body, unleashing new found darkened blood... Finally seeing some potential in this child's future, she forcibly broke through Nicoli's guards, and stole them. Using her own blood magic to awaken the power further, it was only ever met with rejection. Angered by both the child's lack of confidence or will to hurt anything, she tortured the child whenever they did not listen, and striking their mind with the many fears plaguing them. Weakening their capability to socialize, or act independently, the years leading up to now filled with such torture, alongside more in their isolation, combined with her painful blood rituals to awaken their strength. They are nothing but a weapon and pawn, trying to grow more powerful. One to be bled dry, before discarded like a piece of trash...They constantly seek power in a vein attempt to deal with their problems, and appease their mother.
("Finding a True Enemy" 1 and 2 Quest.) Not long after, fragmentation of Neliv and mother Vaerlines memories began appearing. Using the chaos, and unveiling her ow

If I have Reflections of Littjara(with the horror creature type chosen) and I cast Umbris, how many triggers for Umbrisβs etb ability would there be? Since Umbris is a legendary, would the legend rule trigger first or the copyβs etb trigger?
