Thwarter Puns

I'm confused about the ability on this card. For Ice Shield, it says "When this Thwarter is attacked, if your opponent fails to roll a Hit on every die rolled for that attack, this Thwarter receives no wounds from the attack."

Well, no kidding. If every die misses in an attack, of course he won't take wounds. Am I just missing something?

I have an unlikely PC that plays a very interesting character with goals, charisma, and a very fun voice. But for what ever reason he wanted to try out a new character, so he rolled one up and had a lot of time to think about how this new guy would act in the world. He ended up just being a murder hobo with almost no character, I’m talking no goals, no charisma, and no fun voice. Luckily for everyone at the table, including him, this awful man was killed.

I know this kid has potential to make interesting PC’s to interact with. In the possible future of his main character’s death, what should I do to help him create somebody fun? I usually let my group make their own backstories but it’s very noticeable when they don’t because they lack any personal goals. (And if they don’t tell me their backstory that also makes it noticeable)

It’s not that I want to Meddle in character creation, but if it’s for the betterment of my group I’ll do it. Has this happened to any of you, how did you handle it?

I wouldn't normally get involved, but after seeing how haggard and tired my friend looked last night, I could use some advice. Actually, she could.

Single mother of a 2.5 year-old. A deadbeat dad who doesn't pay or come around very often exists, but luckily her mother has recently moved in, so she has actual help now. I help out with babysitting and such, and so do a few other friends.

Little Dude won't sleep through the night. He won't fall asleep at all without someone in the room, and then he gets up in the middle of the night, walks over to Mommy's room and crawls in. She's exhausted. She let's him breastfeed and then he sleeps with her the rest of the night. I know she wants to wean him completely, but it's like she's incapable of turning him down. She won't let him cry in his crib, and as long as he's in her bed, he nurses.

A lot of my friends have kids, and as a rule I do NOT offer advice or make suggestions. However, my friend is obviously suffering, and she doesn't have a co-parent helping her make decisions. She's sleep-deprived too, plus she's still emotionally damaged by the idiot father. And she is the breadwinner - mostly an assortment of odd jobs - supporting herself, Little Dude, and Grandma.

So, here's my question: As a parent, would you punch me in the face if I made any suggestions?

If answer 'yes', what would you recommend I do to help?

If answer 'no', what suggestions should I offer?

I'm a big part of there lives, so although I can keep my mouth shut until he's 30, I see them constantly and I'm invested in all of their lives. I really worry that my friend is falling apart from sleep deprivation. He's a pretty good-natured kid, too. I feel like he'd be all set in record time if they let him cry for a few nights. It's like he doesn't realize falling asleep by himself is even an option.

So at this moment I'm chilling out in the hallway while Little Dude is possibly asleep. Mom is in her room working, and Grandma's on a date, if you can believe it!

I think she had her 'enough is enough' moment finally. She let me supervise a modified cry-it-out, and it took about half an hour (I hope!) Its up to her whether to entertain his middle of the night feeding, but this is a good start and she seems positive. I could seriously sit here all night and listen to his YouTube lullaby thing. Redditing. Eating almond butter. Not cleaning my house. D

I see people mentioning Wes and Black One title being used to thwart Harpoon lists, so I figured I'd try my hand at thwarting those thwarters. :)

Assuming the opponent list is not entirely PS11, Quickdraw locks onto someone in his first turn. He fires his missile, using Harpoon lock and Chips to modify. FCS gives him the lock back.

Backdraft (moving at 7) focuses on first turn. He uses Quickdraw's lock (via Targeting Synchronizer) to fire his Harpoon Missile. He does not spend Quickdraw's lock to modify, but instead relies on his focus token and Chips.

Scimitar Squadron, benefiting from Swarm Tactics, also shoots at PS7. He, also, uses Quickdraw's lock to fire his Harpoon Missile. He uses Focus and Chips to modify, and uses Quickdraw's lock if-and-only-if he thinks it will get a kill on the target (otherwise you let Quickdraw keep it, to give his next shot teeth).

The following turn, Scimitar can shoot again, using Quickdraw's lock to fire his second Harpoon Missile. Or, if the target is in range 1, he's got Proton Rockets (4 attack dice, keep focus), and he can again spend Quickdraw's lock if it might get him a kill. One other thing to note is that the Scimitar can also loose his missile after a 5-k turn, using Quickdraw's lock.

The Proton Rockets are also added insurance against anyone who tries to jump into range 1 to avoid the initial Harpoons.

There are a couple of potential points of variation to this list:

1. Quickdraw and Backdraft can swap Elite Talents to make the whole list shoot at PS9. But then you don't have a Quickdraw who moves after Nym or Kylo.

2. Replace Backdraft with Vader, so that Scimitar can shoot at PS9. This lets you try to PSkill higher PS ships (since you shoot Harpoons at 11/9/9). The downsides are that Vader can't creep a 1-straight, and that after the initial joust, Vader has to expose himself with a K-turn to keep fighting, whereas Backdraft is happy to plow into the knife-fight.

3. Replace the Scimitar with a Nu. This gives you extra hardiness and the flexibility of SLAM. But you either lose the Proton Rockets OR you switch Harpoon to Proton Torpedo and lose Extra Munition, relying instead on reload.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
