anyone here familiar with locums for cardiology? looks like typically clinic coverage + consults for general cardiology +/- being on call. any idea what the pay rate is? I'll have ~2.5 months before starting my job after graduating in July, so want to use some of that time making some extra dollars.
Radiologists of Reddit, have you done any locum tenens work in the past? What agencies have you worked with and what was your experience? Any crazy stories?
Like many a person I have fantasies about spending large amounts of my life traveling. Locum tenens positions could allow me to live like this, but I haven't been able to find much on people's experiences doing locum tenens work as their primary income. That is, they do not practice at a single location for the majority of their career but fill a shorter term need for X months somewhere nationally or internationally before going to a new location.
Any 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or possibly even 4th hand experiences will be considered :p

I have 3 years experience in primary care and looking to try out locum tenens. I've done my research in terms of studying the AAPA salary report. However, the report is based on regular jobs, not "locums." So, asking to see if anyone can provide insight on real hourly salaries out there? So that I'm undervaluing my abilities (which is definitely more of my tendency). A recruiter asked how much I was expecting and was ill-prepared to answer. I'm also working on that naive new grad mentality!
I would also appreciate any advice with locums. I've exhausted youtube videos, the many blog articles, spoken to two recruiters... Now it's time to hear the opinions of the magical word of reddit :D Thanks for any insight and reading!

Looking at locum tenens options in the future. Plan on doing seasonal work once I finish my current contract and pay off my student loans. I know there’s companies that manage the contracts but I don’t know which ones are good and which ones to stay away from. Plan is to work 6ish months at a time around winter in the states then leave. No family or property stateside so I don’t mind bouncing around. I don’t mind government work either. Who knows maybe there’s a prison somewhere that will just give me 6 month contracts consistently. Anyone have experience working as a locum? Thoughts and suggestions? I’m a gp.

I have 2 senior housecats, so unfortunately I couldn't accommodate additional animals in the house. Neko and Murano do not have access to guest bedrooms, and if it's a major preference they can stay on the 3rd floor. I see a lot of people like to travel with animals, and I totally get it, but how many actually don't travel with animals?

Third level and my office / library on first floor are off limits to guests but the rest of the house would be open (sunrooms, another office with desk, living room, dining, kitchen, etc). Guest bedrooms are 2nd floor, with a shared guest bathroom, sunroom with mini fridge and mini oven, laundry, and movie room / gym all on 2nd floor as well. Considering the fact that I live in the house, should I open both guest bedrooms up or just one? I think there's plenty of room for 3 total people in this house but IDK what the general consensus would be.

My house has a number of antiques and curiosities in it (Victrola crank phonograph, books from late 1800s, etc), are people generally respectful of such things? I was an AirBnB superhost in Scottsdale AZ for 2 years, I had to lock up my irreplaceable stuff and I'm not sure what to expect with medium term housemates.

I am unable to allow use of the basement or garage, BUT the hospital employee parking lot is on the other side of the property line. There is also free parking for 3 vehicles next to the house. Would parking be a dealbreaker?

I don't have cable/satellite, I personally quit TV in the 80s haha. But I own hundreds of DVDs. I will also have a new high speed internet plan. Do people really watch regular TV or will that be sufficient?

Is there a market for night shift only? My personal favorite schedule is about noon to dawn, but I've spent most of my life with early birds so I can adapt to day schedule ok. But was hoping to cater to night shift peeps.
