A list of puns related to "Science Fiction Fanzine"
Female human or any kind of female creature! Any media counts that can be loosely classified as sci-fi, including superheroes. Give the name of the character and what they are from.
Outer space shows with imaginary gravity on spaceships used to kind of bother me. Now, after watching and thoroughly enjoying The Expanse, this really bothers me -- especially when all other spaceship systems fail.
Of course, The Expanse also maintains tight consistency within its milieu, another personal qualification for suspending disbelief and enjoying the story.
I am looking for the Science Fiction with either the darkest story, or the darkest implications. Something that instills dread or a feeling of being unsettled.
Thanks all.
I just read The Expanse, The Sparrow and the Three Body Problem. I loved all three of these books but my problem with them is how itβs never a round story. They donβt come to a conclusion at all. Itβs the start of a series and Iβm too slow reader to read the whole series thatβs why now I hope someone can recommend me a good science fiction book that is not the start of a series of books.
Or if it is that itβs still nice round story such as Enders Game, that is a good finished story (in my opinion) even though it also kicks off a cool universe of books.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Hello friends, itβs the end of the year almost! What was the best thing you read? Tell us about it. Letβs get a good list going. The sub rocks!
If not, what are, or is?
Also, thinking outside sci fi, what are some other examples of incredibly thought provoking series?
Thanks in advance.
I live in a country where the religious parties have a lot of political clout. I have read science fiction from the age of 10. Great Sci-Fi writers like Asimov and Douglas Adams are great for educating youths to Atheism. What is your opinion?
I need some miniatures for Stars Without Numbers. Any recommendations? Obviously 40k is the go to, but I need figures that are more generic and can fit in any sci fi setting .
Edit: Those are all good suggestions. Thanks for the help.
Some time back, I was re-watching some old episodes of Stargate and I was again struck by how implausible the Tauri managed to build hyperdrive-equipped starships in less than a decade. Granted, it was a TV show.
Works that I am more familiar with would be the "Island in the Sea of Time" series by S.M Stirling. With a machine shop that has lathes, they at least managed to replicate steam-powered engines much later in the series.
Still, I think this might be an interesting topic.
It does not necessarily have to be alien technology, or set in the far future. Time travel and alternate timelines will do just as well.
The further humanization of the tuskens, the dialogue pointing to their ancestral history, the resistance against off-worlders and even the metaphors to MΔori culture through Temueraβs influence are all incredible.
Sci fi has always been used as a vehicle to provoke thought about our world through the lens of something mystical and otherworldly, and the show is doing a great job combining social critique with entertainment, while keeping true to the Star Wars we love. Excited for whatβs to come with the show.
Hi all,
I'm looking to consolidate an internet's worth of Sci-Fi resources into a wiki for r/scificoncepts or at the very least in this post. If you have a resource that you use often, then pop a link into the comments along with a brief description of what it is and what you use it for.
The title says it all.
The question is sincere : I am myself a European but frankly, I have to admit that 95% of the media I am watching are either Japanese Animation (anime) or American Movies/Series simply because I like SF and Fantasy and these 2 countries produce most what we can find in this field in the world.
I know there are some European SF and Fantasy works but they are scarce. Many European movies are either cheap fat slice of life comedy / romance for the plebe or elitist social tragedy movies aiming for an award or just trying to satisfy the ego of pseudo intellectual critics (yes, I know, this is slightly a caricature but still...).
So what prevents European studios, producers or directors from creating SF or Fantasy media ?

Things that an Engineer or Science Officer on a star ship might say.
My dad is letting me use his phone for this. He is being annoying about it but he said that you would have good ideas.
I liked Hitchhikerβs Guide To The Galaxy, Fortunately the Milk, The Machine Stops, Interview With The Robot, the Discworld for Kids series, Norse Mythology by Neil Gayman, the Hobbit, and Harry Potter. I have read ALL the Rick Riordan books.
I like funny and gross books. I like mythology. I love bunnies, too!
I donβt want to read Redwall. Please tell him to stop suggesting it!!
Dad edit: Nothing too scary or βmature.β Please be nice. If youβre nice, Iβll let her read your posts and buy her anything she wants.
It just occurred to me that back when I was watching shows like Thunderbirds as a child here in the UK there were relatively few you would get exposed to because there were only a few channels. So shows like Space 1999, Star Trek, Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica - from their original incarnations - were what I grew up with. What influenced you?
