Sawtooth wave after effect?

I’m curious what this is… If you listen to a Sawtooth wave (and also maybe a square wave) for an extended period of time (as a musician, sound designer, and synth lover, this happens often), I’ve noticed that when the sound stops, there’s a weird after image, like if you stare at something for a long time, it’s inverse image is imprinted on your retina for a short while.

Does anyone know what this phenomenon is called, and what’s happening inside the ear or brain? Thanks!

Sawtooth Waves

Does anyone know of brony youtuber sawtooth waves?

If so then I have a video idea for him.

What Happened to Apple Bloom in the Sombra Timeline

As we all know in The Cutie Re-Mark, Starlight Glimmer went back in time to prevent the Sonic Rainboom from happening, which resulted in several different timelines where Equestria was in ruins, and the first one we saw was a timeline where King Sombra was at war with Equestria. In that timeline, we saw that Sweet Apple Acres turned into a factory and Big Mac, and Applejack were working inside of it. Twilight, and Spike came, and explained to Applejack who they were and what their timeline was like. However the one question they never asked, and makes me question if the Mane Six actually care about the Cutie Mark Crusaders is of course. "Where's Apple Bloom? That has really bothered me, I mean I know the timeline was fixed and Apple Bloom ended up being okay, but still It would have been nice to know what happened to her durning the King Sombra Timeline.

It something I'm curious about, and I would love to see his take on it.

Why is it that square waves seem to be louder than sawtooth waves?

I know people often like to use square waves for bass. I thought this was because it’s a little cleaner than the sawtooth but this picture got me wondering. Not sure if it’s accurate.

I know there could be a lot of factors involved like psychoacoustics or the same amount of energy being spread out over a larger number of harmonics. Is that it? Just curious.

Edit: Also is it maybe related to the way that squares are at their peaks longer than sawtooth waves, which only hit the peaks more momentarily?

Edit2: Thank you to all who answered. I’ve been trying to reply to everyone, but it’s gotten to be a lot now. This turned into a pretty awesome discussion.

Need help implementing delay at the end of a sawtooth wave.

I'm currently working on an animation where the LEDs light up from the beginning of a strip and go to the end of a strip and then the animation restarts at the beginning. I'd like the animation to delay at the end of the strip so it doesn't immediately begin the next iteration as the previous iteration ends.

I'm not using a loop which is why I can't just add a delay(delayTime)

Code

I've tried using

if (halfBeat == 255)
delay(delayTime);

but that would delay after the next iteration of the animation started.

Another idea I had was to add a toggle variable to the wave so it would multiply the output of the wave by 0 when I want it off and multiply by 1 when I want it on. That didn't work either.

Thanks in advance.

I hate sawtooth waves

I fucking hate Sawtooth waves. I know what you’re thinking, this is some kind of funny joke, but no. Sawtooth waves are a piece of shit. A damn saw got picked over actual waveforms at an oscillator and he’s supposed to be a hero? And I can’t even tell you how many damn times I’ve seen a great oscillator only to turn the volume knob and realise a sawtooth wave is already patched there in it's stupid little fucking VCA. They took my wife and the kids and my house and my eardrums. I swear to fucking god, I’m going to kill myself and take those goddamn waves to hell with me. Sawtooth waves have ruined my tone. Last summer, I approached the miserable wave in the street, and asked him for his autograph, because my son is a huge fan. The fucking wave gave me the autograph and told me to burn in hell. Later, when I gave my son the autograph he started crying and said he hated me. Turns out the mousefucker didnt write his autograph, no, he wrote "[angry bees noises]". I’m now divorced, and planning a huge class-action lawsuit against the white devil that ruined my life. Your time is almost over, Sawtooth. All the people you’ve wronged will rise against you.

Unexpected MΓΆbius function in the coefficients of fourier-like series producing sine out of sawtooth waves

(sorry if this is something already well-known or not that interesting, I'm a programmer, not a mathematician)

So I was curious whether there is a simple sum of sawtooth waves that produces a sine in a similar fashion how you have fourier series that produce a sawtooth wave. I ended up writing a small script that used least-squares method to find the coefficients of such series and with the help of OEIS I found out that they looked a lot like ΞΌ(n)/n.

I made a simple desmos visualization for it, and it definitely looked promising. I ended up trying to prove that the series does converge to a sine wave and I think I came up with a fairly decent proof for this. Here's the pdf of it.

I find it really interesting that such an unusual number-theoretical function would appear in a series adding up to sin(x). Especially with ΞΌ(n) being so discrete and noisy and sin(x) being the exact opposite of that.

How would I generate a 500kHz 3.3V positive only sawtooth wave?

As the title states, I'm looking for a way to generate a 500kHz sawtooth wave with a peak voltage of 3.3V and a minimum voltage close to 0. I would like to power this using a variable voltage input from 5 to 12V. I'm not opposed to using some sort of voltage regulator to achieve this task.

Completely separate question out of curiosity, are there any sort of ultra low Drop out voltage regulators that can take a 5 -12V input and output 5V? Or are buck converters only capable of this feat.

Thanks for any and all advice.
