"Says the connected device is supported through smart switch" even after I downloaded the smart switch app.
I recently did a factory reset on my phone to clear up some system memory. I forgot how much crap comes preinstalled and in a haste to get my phone back the way I liked it I installed BK disabler. I didn't have installed previously but I thought it would be more convenient as my phone wasn't rooted. While using the app I disabled Samsung Kies not knowing what it was. Afterwards I tried downloading some apps I used to have but now it's saying my device is rooted. I uninstalled BK disabler and still am unable to download Netflix for the same reason. Reinstalled BK to see if I could undue the damage and now I can't find Samsung kies anywhere on my device. Is not having kies the problem? How do I get it back? I don't want to root my phone. Haaalpp please. Thank you.
Edit: I see Android kies is there and running but Samsung kies is no where to be found.
Update: Submitted a thread to XDA. Keep you posted on any input they have.
My s6 pretty much entered a bootloop this morning, and I tried reflashing it with firmware from Odin. There is no place to reinstall firmware in emergency recovery mode in Kies and Smartswitch, so I don't know what to do. I also factory reset it and cleared the cache partition.
So I was quite excited when froyo was released to the Nordic states but I realised that here in NZ it would take weeks to arrive so read this article and it worked! to sum it up
get the latest version of (kies)[http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/SW/201010/20101015082300359/Kies_1.5.3.10093_82.exe]
Now install Kies and boot it up,
Now plug in your phone (make sure development is turned off and you have either Kies usb mode selected or ask upon plugging it in), let Kies do its business and recognize it. Make sure you have the TouchWiz homescreen activated and are just on the homescreen because Kies wonβt recognize 3rd party home screens and needs the device to be idle in order for it to work. Once it shows up in the window on the right then click on firmware update which is the second button from the right on the black bar. Follow the instructions to backup your contacts.
you should then get a greyed out update button saying your on the latest firmware 2.1 Then close the updater but not kies.
the open regedit and navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB you will get bunch of sub folders labeled 1 - whatever find the one that has your imei number in it and apply these changes to the folder
βI9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3β³ for SoftwareRevision. βGT-I9000HKDXEEβ for ProductCode βI9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3β³ for HIDSWVER
close regedit and re run the fireware upgrade and wa la you have an update waiting.
Edit
ensure you have uninstalled OCLF

Backup doesn't work, I had issues even connecting to Kies when I updated to ICS, and when I finally did it has a whole host of problems.
I'm just frustrated right now as I am trying to back up my phone to do a clean reset for ICS, and Kies has been "preparing" the backup for about an hour now. Piece of shit application.
Edit Still not able to backup anything. I just want to grab the 2 GB of photos, I don't give a shit about the rest of the data at this point, I will manually download it all again. USB Mass storage just freezes up explorer and won't fucking work either. This is absolutely ridiculous. Check off iOS for "Better back up" or even "Back up that even fucking works at all" for now.
I just did an update on my samsung kies 3 and now it doesn't support my note 4 anymore. I had to switch to Smart Switch which to me it's dumb because I had an update on my phone.
The update through Kies dropped yesterday, as I found out via a random web search: http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/Android/page/13/thread-id/1137
I updated Kies, and then updated my phone to 2.3.3
Only took about 15 minutes, and I experienced no issues whatsoever.
:D
I've been putting off updates on my Galaxy S4 for about 2 months now hahβ¦Kies intimidates me. (I'm a tech virgin) Apparently I need to install Kies before I can install firmware updateβ¦but, I'm told to back up my data before installing the update too. where will my data be backed up onto? My Mac? Any other tips you can give me would be very helpful. Thank you :)
edit: Oh, I'm seeing lost of discussions of "flashing in files" and "ODin" or "Heimdall"? Cool names, butβ¦what are they :p
edit2: Ok so I've installed Kiesβ¦and it's saying I should update to Smart Switch or something?
HEy guys, did you also have some issues running certain applications on the Consumer Preview of Win 8. Most of the stuff and luckily also all my dirvers seem to work properly. But Firefox makes some minor issues: in the area arounf the menu bar and the tab bar sometimes smaller glitches appear which mostly dissappear when ich minimize the window and re-open it. But the terrible programmed Samsung Kies Software for synchronizing Samsung smart phones and the software for my HP Deskjet F4280 won't run at all or even wont't install. Also the compatibility mode didn't work. Have you made similar experiences or do you maybe heard that some fixes for thos issues had been discussed elsewhere?
I already posted this on the malware subreddit, but the question is still open.
I came to know the existence of Markany software which is installed along Samsung Kies. It watermarks all the media files it can find on the user pc (or: Markany modifies the files already present on the pc) without user consent, and tries to hide its effect.
Being Samsung Kies installed on millions of PCs worldwide, I was wondering, why this unfair and probably illegal behavior hasn't caused any debate or protest, like the Sony infamous rootkit did?
Here you can find some details about how Markany works
So I've had both iPhone and galaxy s2 and with both I loved they had a program that would allow you to plug in the phone and then just backup everything on there in one simple step. It's there a way to do this with other phones like our nexus?
I have not done anything to alter the phone. I haven't rooted or jail break (iPhone only I think). Lately, my phone seems to be slowing down and freezing. I would like to upgrade to ICS to hopefully fix a few issues. Could anyone please help me through this?
P.S. I'm new to all of this.
Model Number: SPH-D710 Android System 2.3.6 Baseband Version: S:D710.10 S.EL29 Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EL29-CL852097 Build Number: GINGERBREAD.EL29 Hardware Version: D710.10
I had an old Infuse that would never connect to Kies, and about a year later the power button crapped out (phone was acting like it was stuck on). I got a new Infuse in the mail and it has the new OS thank god. Anyway, I figured I would try and hook it up to Kies so I can just sync it easily with my PC and check for updates. Lo and behold, Kies does not see my god damn phone. WTF?
This has been my daily driver since Nov. 2018. It has a few very minor scratches on the screen that aren't noticeable at all, and the charging port is ever so slightly looser than it used to be, but other than that everything works perfectly. I had it in a case since day one but did not use a screen protector. I purchased it from Verizon so it has the bloatware but I believe that is removable and it is unlocked. I will include a charging brick, cable, 60GB SD card (already in the device), and the original retail packaging. Asking $320 shipped OBO. I also have an Incipio case with a bit of damage on it and the AKG headphones that came with it (mic doesn't work) if someone wants I can include.

Edit: Sold to /u/Pool-Master for $300
I have non-stop problems with Kies often resulting in re-installing drivers every second or third time. It hardly ever connects to my phone on the first time (gs2) and I've had just about enough.
Any other options worth mentioning? I just wanna transfer music and back my phone up from time to time.
The only thing I can go to on my phone is the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen that hopefully some of you are familiar with. I cannot boot to my phone, or anything else. Just this screen. I have tried to use the emergency recovery mode option in Kies, but it just says "connecting" for a good 10 minutes, then "Unable to connect device". Any feedback is appreciated.
I have a Galaxy S 3 and the Kies software either takes a long time to pick up the phone or it just never does at all. I'll plug the phone into my desktop and Windows will see it(you get that pop up asking what you want to do with the device), and Kies sees it too, but it just sits on the "connecting" dialog and never progresses.
Is there an alternative to Kies for backing my phone up?
Title sais it all, i connect to kies via wifi, no problem, for my other android phone kies finds updates but not for this tablet.
I need to update it for a program that complains it cannot connect via the android license manager (google search was fruitless so i assume it's the old version of android...)
Most software updates do work via regular wifi without kies...
Thanks for any help.
I'm backing up my old Samsung Galaxy S4 data onto Kies before transferring it over to my new Galaxy J3. It's warned me about this when I back up. What is the private storage space? Thanks
Are there any 1-click backup/restore softwares for android? I don't want to backup app data , because miui already has that option without root. Any suggestions?
