A list of puns related to "Prompt Neutrons"
Hello everyone!
I was wondering if anyone can help improve my understanding of how prompt and delayed neutrons are controlled and utilized in a LWR.
To my understanding, prompt neutrons are created from fission products ~10 ns from the fission event, where delayed neutrons are created between microseconds to minutes later from fission products. Prompt neutrons tend to have higher energies than delayed neutrons.
My lack of understanding comes with how LWR control these types of neutron. Every Google search I have done has highlighted the importance of delayed neutrons being the fundamental driver for controlling a LWR. This is because the time scale is more manageable, but what exactly happens to the prompt neutrons during this time scale?
To my understand they can either leak, be absorbed or moderated into a sufficient energy level to continue the chain reaction with fission events.
If this is the case, I visualize lots of moderated prompt neutrons in the system along with delayed neutrons. What is this ratio? Do delayed neutrons really make up the majority here? It's hard to visualize because there is an extensive amount of neutrons being born at different time intervals at different energies that I struggle to understand how we heavily rely on delayed neutrons for control.
I hope i communicated this clearly. If anyone can get my head on straight with this concept I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you!
What I mean by the second part of the question is that, if 1% of the electrons are produced after 10 seconds and prompt neutrons are produced in 1 second (just a simpler picture - I know normal generation times are 10e-4 and 10e-7 seconds), then after 10 seconds into the reaction, delayed neutrons will be just as 'available' as prompt neutrons. The 9 second delay should only matter for the initial 9 seconds from the start of the reaction.
Another metaphor - it doesn't matter if a machine gun with a 600 rounds per minute frequency is one second away from me or ten seconds away from me - after ten seconds, I will be hit just as frequently by bullets from both guns.
Imagine a train route with multiple stops. One trains takes one second to get to the next station, another ten seconds. Now if passengers on one train were prohibited from going into the other train at any stop, I could see why passengers on one trains would be ten times slower. But the passengers on the slow train could easily board the other faster train in the next station. Thus they are only nine seconds behind the passengers who boarded the fast train to begin with.
In a nuclear reactor, how do they get the uranium 235 to actually begin fission? I've tried to find out how but have no idea. I understand that you need a neutron to hit an atom of U235 which then splits into fission products and an average of 2.45 neutrons, but where does the first neutron come from?
Do we just stick the material into a moderator I.e. water, and let stray neutrons slowly begin the reaction then use the control rods to slow it down once it's going? Or do we inject a big spike of neutrons to begin the reactions? What goes on when we need to restart the reaction?
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Manoeuvring with Difficulty
Gβday again, Iβm back again with another guide, this one is roughly twice as long as my last walkthrough, if you didnβt see the first one on the Hatikvah plot, it may be worth looking into before reading this one if you havenβt done the Hatikvah plot before. This guide is also available as a wiki page. It may be preferable to read it on the Wiki because the guide has a table of contents in that format and it has more images because of reddit's 20 image limit.
The Free Families Conflict plot (also known as the "Split plot") in conjunction with the Hatikvah Trade Revolution plot and Paranid Civil War plot is one of the 3 main story missions introduced in the 3.0 βLever to Move a Worldβ update and the first to require a DLC (Split Vendetta). Along with the Paranid Civil War plot this mission chain has an opening linear plot chain before a player-made decision picks a path towards two different outcomes. In this guide the full range of outcomes will be outlined at the conclusion of each of the two branches. As this is a walkthrough spoilers are inevitable and expected, however, scope of spoliers is limited to the understanding required for this plot and its completion.
With regards to difficulty, the first half of the plot is similar to that of the Hatikvah Trade revolution and Player Headquarters plots. The second half is far more involved and is more suited to intermediate players who have significant sums of money available (over a billion is a good target).
Thematically the plot centres on the control of the Free Families with forces of the Zyarth Patriarchy and the Court of Curbs both vying for control of the fractured feudal families.
Two of the achievements in this plot require specific actions on multiple occasions, guidance and prompts from NPCs will not help in getting them so they have been made more obvious in this guide. These achievements are the βYes, Yes, Very Interestingβ which requires 4 correct dialogue choices and βIn Authority We Trustβ which requires certain conversations and flight behaviours as well as choosing to side with Zyarth.
Without giving away the content of the plot too early, m

βListen, Kathmin,β Rhubul started as they walked across the promenade towards the diner. βI want to tell you something about my friend weβre meeting today.β
βOk, shoot,β replied Kathmin.
Rhubul continued, βThis friend is not a scientist. In fact, I should probably get it out of the way and start with the fact that theyβre a Dursk.β
Kathmin stopped walking and stared at Rhubul for a moment. βYouβre joking,β he hoped. βHow did you get them on the station? Surely security didnβt sanction that!β
βKeep your voice down,β Rhubul shushed as he turned and continued to walk. βSome other new friends intervened with station security to allow limited access for a diplomatic envoy for an afternoon. Officially, access was granted for an unspecified meeting with other diplomats. Unofficially weβre using the conference as cover, and weβre the diplomats.β
βWow, justβ¦so much to unpack there,β Kathmin sputtered. βWeβre diplomats? When did that happen? And what other friends? You donβt have any other friends. Iβd have known. There would have been meetings and support groups.β
Rhubul stopped and turned to face Kathmin, his frills tinging just a hint of orange. βI have friends,β Rhubul countered, momentarily distracted by Kathminβs humor. βLook,β he continued as he recovered, βMeasures were taken to avoid any unfortunate incidents, hopefully. I understand this is a lot to process, but I need you to trust me.β
βOh sure, βHey, Kathmin, letβs go sit across the table from a xenophobic space predator, the only sapient species I can think of that still prefers its food alive!β He is probably only three standard units tall and outweighs us both, but Iβm sure we can take him if he gets hungry,β Kathmin responded sarcastically.
βKathminβ¦β Rhubul started.
βNo, listen,β Kathmin interrupted, βIβm trained to understand, appreciate and relate to a variety of cultures, and even I think itβs fine that the Dursk want to stay hidden away in their dark little corner of nowhere. Frankly, the more sectors between them and the broader civilized Galactic Union, the better Iβll sleep at night. You know the scene youβll create if these conference attendees see him, right? And how did you disguise him? Throw a box over him and slap a βmobile refrigeration unitβ sticker on it?β
βFirst, heβs a she

Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?

Then the other muffin says "AHH, TALKING MUFFIN!!!"
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

It really does, I swear!
I have been very impressed by the design of Rocket Labs's Neutron. This prompts me to ask a speculative question.
Lets suppose NASA or ESA went to Rocket Labs and said "Can you design us a heavy version of Neutron?" Minimum specifications: 80 tonnes to LEO and 8 metres fairing. One potential use would be simply lofting tanks of fuel into orbit. But it could also loft parts of larger in-space vehicles and other nice things (like big telescopes).
What would this vehicle look like?
My own take? I'd keep the basic design philosophy. Rapid and easy reuse. Return to launch site. Keep the fairings as part of the first stage. All that would change is the scale. Obviously it may require a larger version of the Archimedes engine.
Now, specifically regarding the second stage. Can it be kept cheap and can it be kept single engine? I can see it being economic with a cheap (and mass produced) second stage. However, you can tell Peter Beck has thought about at least recovery of the second stage engine and is keeping his thoughts about that under wraps. What is he thinking? My thoughts drift towards an expendable second stage tank with inflatable ballute style protection for the engine.
And while I'm here, do you think a super sized Neutron could cope with an oversized payload (suppose for the moment its a 10 metre diameter space habitat). It might be its own fairing?

I have a pair of wired headphones that I love and every time I plug them in using an adapter (I've tried several) I get the following message:
> Neutron Player > > Open Neutron Player to handle TX-384Khz Hifi Type-C Audio? > > This App has not been granted record permission but could capture audio through this USB device.
I can select "Ok" to the prompt or "Cancel" but it always pops up again the next time. And, unfortunately, every time it gets bumped the phone thinks I'm inserting a new device and gives the prompt again. This disables the audio in Audible until I close the new prompt.
So, my first though is to go give it permission in the Apps settings. The problem is the only two permissions that are options are Nearby Devices and Storage. Both enabled.
My next thought was to go to Microphone permissions and somehow enable the permission. But it's not even on the "Not Allowed" list. And I can't find a way to add it.
Any advice?

The wikipedia article on criticality accidents states that
>The prompt-critical excursion is characterized by a power history with an initial prompt-critical spike as previously noted, which either self-terminates or continues with a tail region that decreases over an extended period of time
How exactly does this occur? What about transient criticality excursions? Doesn't this entail some decrease in k-effective, which should remain constant without negative feedback or insertion of control rods or poisons
I previously had the impression that prompt criticality would result in some sort of explosion due to the time it takes for negative feedback to take effect.
Is there some simple thing I'm misunderstanding? My knowledge of this area is flawed since it comes entirely from google, so that could be the case
Also, just out of curiosity, if you were to start a reactor without any control poisons, or control rods, would it reach prompt criticality, and have a similar effect as a nuclear bomb? Could you just get a bunch of uranium and reflectors and create a nuclear bomb? I've heard that you need a very specific configuration, but I don't really understand what this means

EDIT
I'm updating because after more extensive testing I've had a terrible experience with Logic on an M1. I constantly get pops and cracking. Sometimes when I randomly open a plugin it'll turn other instruments into "dying robots". It doesn't matter if the plugin is M1 native, compatible through Rosetta. I've tried trouble shooting a million-and-one things, but have had no luck. This is apparently a wide spread problem as a lot of other people are having the same issues. Thank god I do this for fun, not professionally, because it's mostly unusable. So if you're reading this and thinking of getting a M1 Mac, I strongly recommend not doing it until whatever is going on is worked it.
/EDIT
Iβve had my new M1 MPB for almost a week now. Here are some of my impressions and list of plugins and their compatibilities.
Overall, my main issues were migrating and setting up, and generally getting used to the new system. Right off the bat, Iβm coming from Mojave and am leapfrogging onto Monterey, Also, I set up my new computer by creating a Time Machine backup and using the migration function.
Audio interface:
I have a Focusrite Clarett Pre thunderbolt. Because of new security measures I had to boot in safe mode where I could give myself permission to add non-Apple certified apps. Then, I had to go into Systems and Security and βallowβ the app. But once I did that It worked fine (Iβll outline the steps I took, because it might be helpful for some apps too). The needed dongle works fine.
Software:
iLok. Everyoneβs most hated spyware app. I had no major problems with it. After I migrated, I simply reactivated everything and then deactivated everything on my old computer. My activation counts are all as they should be. I had only one plugin that uses iLok have a validation issue (Softube Amp Room, below), but I think thatβs because of the plugin not iLok.
Plugin Alliance. Iβve collected a ton of their apps over the years. I wonβt post every single one, but all of them worked with no hitches or need to reinstall. Installation Manager worked without any problems either as well.
Nembrini Audio Rig Live. Merely needed reauthorization within iLok. Works fine both as a stand-alone and within Logic. I have their Vox, Fender, most of the pedals, rack tape delay, and their shimmer reverb. ** STL Ignite Amphub**. Crashed validation and the stand-alone didnβt work either. However, a fresh reinstall fixed it. I have their, you guessed
