A list of puns related to "Phototherapy"
If your little one needed phototherapy (a little or a lot), how did you handle it?
My wife and I just had a little boy 2 days ago. He has a mild case of jaundice and is being kept under the phototherapy lamp.
He hates this and is screaming bloody murder. We can't cuddle him to settle him down because that disrupts the phototherapy. My wife is bawling her eyes out because she wants to comfort the little guy, but the nurse insists he can only come out for feedings, diapers, and maybe a bath.
Now, I get it, jaundice is bad and this needs to be done. I was looking up alternatives and it's only this, IV, or what sounded like dialysis. I'm not asking for ideas for alternative treatments.
What I am asking for is how did you comfort your spouse and baby during this treatment?
It's for an elder family member - he loves to garden and always gets depressed during the winter, I just learned about his seasonal struggle and was hoping to be able to offer a simple solution to both things. He would never do this for himself, or accept a light bulb as a solution to a mental health problem, but he might enjoy being able to grow herbs during the winter months and I think perhaps kill two birds with one stone. Any suggestions?
I looked at some of the research that was linked on the SBS phototherapy episode and actually found something pretty interesting:
One of the researchers who was involved in at least dozens of phototherapy research actually went on an interview with a site that sells commercial phototherapy products.
In the interview he endorsed their product in addition to talking about his research. (Link at the end)
I would be interested to see what u/gnuckles thinks. If a researcher endorsed a commercial product would it validate the product or would it potential taint the research due to bias.
I looked around the website and the products still isnβt cheap but the cheapest one is like 500$ which is a lot better than 20k

So Iβm on a three year waiting list to get phototherapy treatment (with nhs) and I canβt even go private because all treatment is down south.
Has anyone ever bought a phototherapy product thatβs as good as the phototherapy they offer in clinics ?
The idea of phototherapy has been peculating in my mind since the podcast episode reviewing it with relevant meta studies. Has anyone, looking at you Greg, gone ahead and tried it out? Thereβs a subreddit dedicated to it now though itβs still pretty chaotic there seems to have been some progress with consumer device manufacturers. /u/ings0c in r/biohackers pointed out an online review https://www.alexfergus.com/blog/best-red-light-therapy-body-panel-2021. Any thoughts?
so my first phototherapy session is next week, im really nervous about it. is there anyone who has experienced it before? i have a few questions as well.
does this mean we are not allowed to exercise anymore?
can i shower after phototherapy?
did you receive any of the side effects?
also any tips to ensure that phototherapy works?
im a 14 year old kid so im really just scared...
I have been researching light therapy for depression and dark therapy for mania. The scholarly research is mixed for both. So, I wanted to know if anyone has tried either. My meds are helping, but I want to find something to help the moods that pop up.
Hello everyone! I have been given a choice by my derma to choose between Phototherapy or Dupixent at my next review and wanted to seek some opinions.
A bit about me: 27 F, I have had eczema my entire life and it has improved in my 20s. I would treat it with moisturizer and hydrocortisone and it remains mostly stable. Although, due to stress in my life, I recently had a horrible flare up. My entire body went bright red all over, itchy, oozing skin, nerve zingers similar to TSW symptoms. I had 4 weeks off work and had to vacuum my bed every day. I went to a dermatologist and was told to use Betamethasone Dipropioanate (short term, I have now stopped) and do wet wraps 3 times a week and my skin has improved dramatically. Now I'm just using tacrolimus to keep it stable.
My review for my skin is due next week and it seems stable although a little itchy, red and dry in some problem spots. Do you think it is best to explore phototherapy before starting Dupixent? My concerns are the long term reliance on Dupixent if I were to ever want to stop using it. Additionally I already have dry eyes and this is another concern.
Considering my skin isn't too bad, have any others had success with phototherapy to treat mild-moderate eczema? The cost is not an issue for me (Australia, medicare π) nor the time as my job is pretty accommodating.
Happy to hear your thoughts and it would be much appreciated!
Hey guys, I'm with a team from NUS (National University of Singapore), who's looking into using phototherapy implants to treat tumors in dogs.
We are currently conducting interviews for owners who dogs have/had cancer, we'd like to know their personal experiences & what resources are lacking in the current veterinary/pet oncology climate.
We're also recruiting cases for our treatment trials, however, Our treatment trials are currently localized & limited to Malaysia only. We are currently in talks to open up a 2nd trial site with local vets in Singapore., so do keep a look out for any updates.
If you'd like to find out whether your dog is eligible for our treatment, email us at deeplightasia@gmail.com, or you could also send me a pm.
Treatment for shelter dogs treatment will be fully borne by us. Whereas phototherapy treatment for private dogs would be free, the rest of the surgical cost, hospital fee, & etc , would be paid for by the owner.
Here's the link to our poster, if you wanna know more! PDTposter
Wishing you & your canine companions the best of health!
Hello sorry for formating. Well I started suffering from this in late 2019, It first appeared on my hands, this last month it has spread to my arms, soles of my feet, chest, genitals (worst itch ever) and the back of my ears. I've been on prednisone for a full year and it made a mess both physically and emotionally. Also steroid creams and mostourisers. I have to clarify a couple of other things, I have Ulcerative Colitis and I am on biologic medication (adalimumab) since october. I quitted prednisone less than a week ago and i feel bad. I went to the dermatologist and she suggested phototherapy on full body. The problem is that i have a busy schedule (studies, shots that leave me very tired, therapy) and have to go 3 times a week for atleast 3 months. I just want to know if its worth it or not. It is very time consuming and i have tried all except Dupixent (and this) but it is unlikely that I'd be given more bios because my insurance its already covering the adalimumab. Sorry for my bad english i am from Argentina. Cheers. And good night.
Hello all, I've recently started phototherapy and I'm on my second week in of 3 treatments a week.
Did anyone find that phototherapy made their eczema worse? And did it eventually get better and it was a case of "worse before better"?
Interested to hear your experiences. Mine has flared on my face and shoulders pretty badly and hoping it will improve.
I am covered in patches of psoriasis completely, so I was wondering does the light need to make contact with each bit of psoriasis specifically in order to work or is it when the skin absorbs it in a more general way the skin overall reacts and the psoriasis will go. I ask this as I have heavy hair and scalp psoriasis, and I sometimes get it on my inner groin so how do they get to the areas the light will not naturally see? Thanks
Iβve had eczema since I was born. It went away for the most part aside from some mild flares in college and for a few years after. Ever since the start of covid itβs gotten worse and worse.
My derma recommended phototherapy which I was skeptical on at first but it seems like it could really help. I also know it could take a few months before seeing results.
What are your experiences with going? How long did your relief last?
Hello!
Bit of backstory: I (28F) am having the worst guttate flare up and my dermatologist has written up a consult of phototherapy 3x a week until January, before looking into biologics.
I am on my third phototherapy appointment today. Got it done at around 1pm and since around 7 my psoriasis has gotten insanely itchy. My psoriasis has never been particularly itchy in the past.
Could this be a good sign? Or a bad one?
Just wondering if anyone could share experiences with at home phototherapy devices. 27 years old, suffered with psoriasis for my entire life, but recently it became worse than ever. Meds have become so expensive and I thought maybe this would be a helpful alternative.
Is this ok? I am going into university and not sure if I need to eliminate alcohol or just be weary of it. Thanks (I will also seek advice from my derm, but just checking here before I see them lol)
I am starting phototherapy and was just wondering how long it took for people to see serious results, as in some areas clearing completely or substantially. Thank you!
So my baby boy was born 9 pounds, but lost 8 ounces in the first 24 hours and was also diagnosed with jaundice/hyperbilirubinemia (serum level 7.2) and was sent for phototherapy at midnight last night. So my exclusive breast feeding plan came to an abrupt pause and we decided to supplement with formula while he is getting phototherapy treatment and to help with weight gain.
The hospital brought me a pump and Iβve been trying to pump colostrum every 3 hours, but I am not getting any more than DROPS at a time which may be why baby lost so much weight in the first 24 hours.
Does anyone have any advice for me to increase colostrum output (beyond massaging and heat?)
Anyone in a similar situation who was able to increase supply enough once milk came in to exclusively pump or breast feed?
Feeling nervous and demoralized. Thank you for any thoughts/tips!!
iβve already posted about this but i just wanted more advice!
i had my first session (first of all no one told me how terrifying the box is lmao, i absolutely didnβt like it and had to keep my eyes closed the whole time out of fear- but the things we have to do for eczema lmao)
am i still able to use mild steroid cream on days i donβt have the appointment? my legs are super inflamed and itβs making me really uncomfortable.
do the first few sessions make your skin feel dry? i already feel drier than usual and i have no idea why, how often should i moisturise?
when would it be appropriate to wear a visor for my face? my face does have small problematic areas but iβve heard that you should cover it after a couple of sessions to avoid sunburn, i am ginger too so that should give you an idea on how quick i may burn
how long after the session should i moisturise and put on sun cream?
and lastly is there any way to feel less panicky inside the box? like if i was too afraid being in there for 15 seconds i cant imagine whatβll happen when iβm in there for longer
I've been told by my doctor that I'm being put on a list for the NHS to go for phototherapy sessions as my skin has become resilient to steroid based cream.
Has anyone here had phototherapy before and if so, what was it like?
If newborn babies with jaundice are treated with phototherapy to make the bilirubin water soluble because their livers cannot efficiently break down the bilirubin, would the same treatment help Gilbertβs syndrome patients?
