From what I read, the autorefractor is only an estimate, where phoropter gives exact figures.
In my exams, I've always had both done on me. Why use both? Isn't the autorefractor just a waste of everyone's time? Or does it bring the clinic extra revenue?
I’ve had two phoropter tests in my life and I’m getting to hate it. I feel unsure of my responses, it is exhausting, it feels like my eyes change during it, and the end result doesn’t make me see as well as I would like. But maybe my expectation is not satisfiable with glasses/contacts. This text makes it sound like I could skip straight to the answer with an autorefractor. But when I call the local optometry stores they don’t seem to know what it is. Is there any hope of skipping the phoropter and still getting a great result?

I accidentally deleted the Phoropter prototype (or stored it?) during the Vision of the Future Vault-tech mission. I also did a bunch of building that I don't want to lose, and reverting to a prev. save will kill that.
Any tips for a fix? I cannot build again through the menu.
Benjamin Franklin invented bifocals. How did he know what his prescription was? Well before Ben, monocles were used. Did early optometrists just spend hours and hours grinding away at a lens, only for it to be not what they needed for their patient? How did early optometrists get this right?
In other words no ret or auto-refx, no previous rx dialed into phoropter (patient lost glasses), ONLY going by the VA and dialing in +/- and NOT using the 'fan chart' for astigmatism?
Tl;dr They said I have same prescription or eye grade, but my vision without eyeglass is a lot worse than 3 years ago. They only tested 2 lenses in phoropter, do you think they could've tested more lense option?

They also used autorefractor machine. They asked for the eyeglass that i was wearing, and I didn't see what they did with it. When they got back, they've picked two lense for me try on phoropter. I'm using my current prescription lense for 3 years, and without glasses there's big difference on how blurred my vision is now vs my vision without eyeglass 3y ago
I think they only tested 2 sets of lense (?) for each eye Option 1 - same prescription, so it's comfortable Option 2 - very crystal clear, but felt too clear? felt a little uncomfortable, like eye strain. but i'm not sure if its because I'm not used to it ? Option 2 has lower astigmatism
I forgot abt my precription, and I haven't fully paid yet, so I don't have my recent prescription with me. All I remember is one eye is 75 and the other is 100. I also have astigmatism
They said my prescription is still the same. So is it really the same even if my vision without eyeglass is different 3 years ago? Do you think they could've tested more option for the lense that I'm trying? Like something in between option 1 and 2?
It's for a project I'm doing about contact lenses. I've never been to an eye doctor and need to know how a phoropter works and take a few shots of it.
I'm gessing they used the wall chart to calculate the spherical correction? How exactly did they determine the cylindrical correction?
I would like to know the mechanics of this machine. How accurate is it? How precise is it? How is this different from a digital phoropter?

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
