Before I post some positive history, I stumbled upon these unfortunate tribes of Northern Benin etc. The Bariba,“Peul”, (not an ethnic group but a language family. So not sure what ethnic group the report was referring to), Boko, & Baatonou. reddit.com/gallery/nkb5yy

Endearment Terms in Fula / Fulfulde / Peul - Ask for Advice

On jaraama.

I'm here to ask for some advice on one of the characters of the comic I'm working on. She is a half-Senegalese Fulani and half-German woman and I was wondering about some words she might use. Especially nicknames and terms of endearment. Generally the family is speaking German (the story is set in Germany) but I'd love to include some Fula terms when my character is talking to her mum as a nod to their heritage.

So far, my character calls her mother "neene" instead of just saying "mum" but I was wondering if there is a word the mum can refer to her daughter as well. Firstly I was wondering if it was common to use names from other areas, like my character is tall with long legs and I thought maybe the Fula words for "antelope" or "gazelle" might be fitting. Would that be something a Fula person would do, or are there more general terms like "dear" or "darling" they'd rather use? Are French endearment terms like "cherie" etc. popular?

And how would a friend of the daughter refer to the mum, are first names usual? If not, since she lived in Germany for a while and is married to a German, is she likely to adopt the custom of being called by her first name by her daughter's friends? And would she refer to long-time friends of her kid with endearment terms even if she didn't know them since childhood? Like calling them "dear" (in Fula) etc?

I've already looked through some Fula courses, but they don't really get into terms used inside the family (which makes sense tbh), so I'd be really grateful for any input from native speakers!

Merci!

Endearment Terms in Fula / Peul - Ask for Advice

I already posted here once about my comic project, but I'm coming here again to ask about a different matter.

One of my characters is a half-Senegalese Fulani and half-German woman and I was wondering about some words she might use. Especially nicknames and terms of endearment. Generally the family is speaking German (the story is set in Germany) but I'd love to include some Fula terms when my character is talking to her mum as a nod to their heritage.

Would that be something a Fula person would do, or are there more general terms like "dear" or "darling" they'd rather use? Are French endearment terms like "cherie" etc. popular?

[Edit: And how would a friend of the daughter refer to the mum, are first names usual? If not, since she lived in Germany for a while and is married to a German, is she likely to adopt the custom of being called by her first name by her daughter's friends? And would she refer to long-time friends of her kid with endearment terms even if she didn't know them since childhood? Like calling them "dear" (in Fula) etc? ]

I've already looked through some Fula courses, but they don't really get into terms used inside the family (which makes sense tbh), so I'd really appreciate any input from native speakers!
