A list of puns related to "Mortimer Common"
So I am going to preface this by saying Iβm pretty cautious and probably even overzealous when it comes to keeping my game as clean as I possibly can. I backup my hood religiously after each play session (even if I only played 2 or 3 sim days), use HoodChecker and SimPE, etc. As a result, I pretty much freak out anytime thereβs the tiniest sign of something bugged. I try to reassure myself about the complexities of the game, how a minor bug doesnβt necessarily mean an impending BFBVFS, and how some things can just be out of my control, no matter how careful I am... but it doesnβt totally stop me from worrying.
Anyway, Iβm on round 8 of Pleasantview (using meetme2theriverβs clean template) and things have been great, considering I started it almost a year ago - needless to say, Iβm pretty attached. Today I was playing my sim Troy, originally a BWV townie, for his rotation and he wanted to befriend a dormie heβd chatted to online. I invited her over and theyβre getting along, when she decides to network. I get the pop up box for the contact networking interaction where the townie says my sim has a lot in common with their friend, so would I mind them giving my number to said friend? Usually pretty benign, whatever, Iβll typically press no anyway.
But hereβs the thing: apparently this dormieβs friend who Troy would get along with is Mortimer Goth. Unless Troy gets access to an ouija board - or, more aptly, the Resurrect-O-Nomitron - thereβs no way he could possibly contact Mortimer... because he died many, many rounds ago. He is long gone.
I declined but itβs left me pretty spooked to be honest. Iβve heard the blind date and contact network socials can be buggy and refer to the game-breaking NPCs, however Iβve tried googling and couldnβt find anything about towniesβ contacts being long-dead sims.
Has anyone else ever experienced this? Or does someone cleverer than I know more about the mechanics of networking and can offer any insight about these glitches/bugs?
Most of all - should I be worried?
I was inspired by the sub r/findapath to think about this. It seems like a very common problem people face in the modern world is feeling lost and unsure about how to live their lives and what they should work to become.
As Iβve grinded my way through Mortimer Adlerβs book list, Iβve been continuously confronted with deep questions about life and purpose and happiness. This has forced me to reflect on my own decisions and what matters most to me in the ultimate sense.
I think itβs nearly impossible to read so much of philosophy, history, and literature (among other works) without starting to shape your own worldview and to begin weighing different approaches to living. It just comes naturally to compare your modern thoughts and perspective to what Plato or Homer or whoever has to say about it.
Maybe this is the greatest casualty of society forgetting about the great books, weβve thrown away the roadmaps for living well at a time when many people need them the most.
One of the Maxims inscribed at the Temple of Apollo at Delphi was βknow thyself.β The Ancient Greeks understood how critically important self-knowledge was to the leading of the best kind of life. In the great books we find the questions that inspire us to discover our own answers.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
I posted this on the earwolf subreddit as well, but I figured some people here might find it relevant since it's a food podcast and a number of these people have been on Doughboys/are Doughboys adjacent. Also it feels like we need an Off Menu/Doughboys crossover, especially now that zoom podcasts are so common.
I'm a big fan of this podcast and they've had a number of Earwolf adjacent people on the show, so I've decided to do a ranked list of my favorites. For anyone who's completely unaware, the show is James and Ed inviting a guest into the dream restaurant and going through their dream meal course by course. If you like Doughboys and hearing conversations about food with a lot in-jokes and the hosts razzing each other this is probably up your street. If you haven't consumed much UK comedy it would also be a good intro to that.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

If you are like me worrying about the widely-assumed increase in the difficulty of Quant, I hope this post will calm you down.
I just took the exam today and I found the quant questions easier than the PPP+ questions. Oddly, I thought it was way easier than what I had encountered on the PPP+.
I had a VQVQV (sadly). When I arrived at the first verbal section, I was, unfortunately, zoning out. This was because I had a poor sleep yesterday due to anxiety(5 hours only) and had to travel to another city to take the test at 8.30am (itβs winter here and the depressing and gloomy weather did not help π). I almost gave up because I really struggled to make sense of the sentences. However I promised myself earlier to pull through and so I thought to just finish the exam. Perhaps this helped me because I was solving the Q sections with the mindset that I have nothing to lose. I was moving through the questions quite steadily. However for my second quant section, I got hung up on my first PS question for 3 minutes. I knew I didnβt manage my time as efficiently as I would like for this section, and I skipped 2 questions.
Admittedly, for the past three weeks, my mentality was very poor. This was due to the accumulated stress from my university assignments (that made me take a 2-week break from the end of November until the beginning of December) and also some personal issues with the family. I used to find a lot of joy preparing for GRE, but due to the burnout, the last part of my journey was not as well-executed as I would like it to be. I mostly did the mock exams during the past week (in a state where I was completely drained), and so I told myself not to bother about the scores. I just wanted to get the feeling of how difficult the questions would be.
Here are some takeaways that you might find useful:
u/gregmat is my only teacher.
Quant: β’ I made sure that my foundation was as solid as it could be. β’ I revised the concepts every day. β’ For the past few days, I have been timing myself. Please do skip questions and itβs okay if you canβt solve them all. Do go through your questions again as there might be some silly mistakes. β’ I made sure I utilised the calculator effectively. (Use the keyboard, donβt click!) β’ I solved 22 Big Book Tests, completed 50% of 5lb, 60% of OG exercises, and 150 GMAT questions.
(Today, I caught 3 silly errors. For questions that I was very confident that I was right, I marked them as this would save me some time. In tot
