A list of puns related to "Modern Girl"
NOTE: My title excludes obvious classics - I mean in the last twenty years. Also, it's not my favourite film (although it is great), just my favourite script.
Recently re-read Flynn's script for the adaptation of her own novel and it is sensational. Every twist and turn is perfectly placed, no line of dialogue is wasted (and I seriously checked this - essentially everything someone says serves the plotlines, deepens the mystery, builds character, or heightens the tone). The script itself is technically flawless (acknowledging the copy I have is likely closer to a shooting script) in terms of action lines being efficient, sparse, and pitch-perfect. Considering a novelist wrote this, this reads like the ultimate example of a script for screenwriting students. She wastes no words.
Amy's "big reveal" comes at the perfect moment. We cut between timelines at the exact right moments. Information dumps happen, but they happen so expertly that they aren't noticeable (I went through and marked where Flynn had been required to do an exposition dump).
It's what inspired me to start plotting my scripts in advance in detail with a treatment or beat sheet - because obviously Flynn had her own novel to work off.
Turning that tome of a book into a 125 page script is an achievement like no other. I recommend it to everyone I come across who wants to write scripts.
Edit: Actually, apparently that draft you see linked is apparently one on the first drafts Flynn wrote, making it even more impressive.
I really admire the OG ska/punk look and style: checkered clothing, suspenders, button up polos, pinstripe shorts, ties, tight skirts with tights, classy shoes and boots, bowler hat, etc. I recently put together a cute outfit with a spiked collar, red cropped polo, black suspenders, black mini skirt, and red tights with checkered socks and my bf said... uh you look kinda like a racist skin/bonehead and not so much ska punk sooo maybe you shouldn't wear that... especially in red. I didn't understand what he was relating to until he pointed out how some proud boys (patriot prayer aka an exclusively cis-male far-right group in the US) wear Fred Perry polos (mine does not have that emblem tho) and that maybe my outfit would have been acceptable a few decades ago but not now because of this association. Is he right? Should I not try to wear traditional ska outfits? I am anti-racist and anti-facist and do no subscribe to that hatred that proud boys spew so I want to make sure I don't get lumped in with them because of the classic ska style I am trying to recreate. I just don't know if it's just the polo thing or other parts of the rude girl style too. Thoughts??
Unless Iβm wrong? Iβm new to the fandom so I could beπ
I don't know if it's just me or not but it really bothers me when I see the American Girl historic dolls, like Molly, Kaya, or Kirsten , etc, are put into modern day clothes or any clothes that would have been too modern for their time period?
I know some people don't think this is a big deal but I feel like it is too me, especially as a girl who has owned the historical dolls only but not the Truly Me ones yet.
I just don't find the appeal to some shit cunt who sounds like he smoked since he was in the womb and I don't get why modern generations find it "hot"
The book starts with the girlβs grandfather, a survivor, yelling at a WW2 documentary on TV. I donβt remember how she gets sent back in time but when she does she bonds with this girl named Rivka who wears a headscarf. At the end of the book Rivka is selected for the gas chambers but the protagonist takes her headscarf and goes for her. After she gets gassed she wakes up in her own time and it turns out that Rivka is a relative of hers, I think her aunt? In the movie she holds her face and calls her βmy Rivkaβ which freaks the aunt out.
I read this a part of a class in middle school, so itβs probably not a very high reading level if that helps at all.
I'm trying to remember this movie I used to watch a lot as a kid, and I cannot find anything about it online. I've tried searching using English, Chinese, Japanese, and Thai on Google and Duckduckgo, and still nothing.
I remember the main character was a young woman that wore red robes, in the beginning there's a scene where she plays with the giant spinning/rolling beams at the temple, and then she gets punished and sent through a portal to modern time (when the movie was filmed in the 80s or 90s).
Then a witch with a costume akin to the villains from the Power Rangers tries to attack and the main character has to team up with her friends and this tiny little creature to fight the witch.
There's also a scene where the tiny creature hides inside the main character's backpack at a market, and the backpack is like one of those 80s/90s colorful neon clock backpacks? Like these. And the creature decides to mess with these tourists by spinning the clock from inside the backpack.
Other scenes I remember are when the main character goes through the portal she appears over or next to a pool, and that she might have stopped by the witch's hideout where it's all foggy and dark, and I remember the witch having really long nails.
I thought it was "Demoness from Thousand Years" because the witch in that reminds me a lot of the witch from the movie I'm thinking about, but it's not it.
If anyone could help me find this movie, it would be honestly amazing I've been trying to years now with no progress at all.
