Could a 50 dollar power line adapter take 600 mbits download and send it upstairs to my bedroom in a 50 year old house

Hi wondering if it would be cheaper to buy some power line adapters and send 600 mbits to my pc from my living room to my bedroom and still get the full speed on a 50 year old houses wires

So will the stuff I have handle 500/500 mbit/s?

In a not too far future, I will have fiber installed into our house, the offer I fell for was a 50% drop in installation cost and a speed of 500/500 mbit/s.

But will the gear I got handle these speeds?
Edgerouter X, Unifi Switch 8 p 150W, AP AC Lite, Unifi Switch 8P, Unifi Flex Mini.
I think it will.... but I have no idea really for years now I have been rocking 100/100 mbit/s with no issues whatsoever. But a 500% increase in speed... will it hold? :)

Max speed only getting near 600-700 Mbit/sec?

I've had GF for a week so of course I'm testing throughput constantly. From the supplied "Google WiFi" puck (running speed test from app) and only getting around 600 to 700 up and down. I've tried directly from the admin console on my new Netgear router (WiFi 6 AX1800 Access Point WAX204) and get the same. GF send a tech (contractor) out to my house and he replaced the fiber jack inside and we went through all the obvious troubleshooting on the clients (laptops and routers) even though the speed tests having nothing to do with any pc's on my network.

The tech used his Chromebook connected directly to the fiber jack (USB-C to Ethernet). After almost 2 hours the tech left and I'm assuming nothing will change. I thought I would be getting over 800 Mbit/sec on average. But I could be wrong and even if this never changes I'm still stoked on my speeds compared to the slows speeds of Spectrum (300 down and 20 up).

448 Mbits/sec USB 2.5Gbe NIC RTL8156 pfSense

Hey guys, hoping someone can help me with this.

I have pfSense installed on a

HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Desktop Mini PC

Intel i5-4590T CPU @ 2.00GHz

8 Gigabytes of RAM and SSD

Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Connection is on em0

Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless AC 7260 is on iwm0 in dmesg but its not available to choose from the list of interfaces

I have two 2.5 Gbps USB NICs

https://plugable.com/products/usbc-e2500

https://www.cablecreation.com/products/usb-c-to-rj45-2-5-gigabit-lan-ethernet-cable-adapter-cd0674.html

ugen0.3: <Realtek USB 10/100/1G/2.5G LAN> at usbus0

ugen0.4: <Realtek USB 10/100/1G/2.5G LAN> at usbus0

https://getlabsdone.com/how-to-fix-usb-ethernet-not-recognized-by-pfsense/ I used this article to get these to stick.

After which pfSense finds these as usable NICs

The install was up and running fine, had it hooked up as my internet router but the speeds were terrible. So I took it out of its position as a router (wifey was getting annoyed with constant internet outages) and put the old router back, but I have it hooked up directly to my PC, same installation and iperf maxes out at 448 Mbits/sec. iperf installed directly on the pfSense box and on my Windows box.

both use the RTL8156 chipset and work fine on Fedora and Ubuntu server and Windows 10 running iperf between two hosts using these, get around 2.3 Gbps, basically what I should be getting. And this is with Fedora on the HP Elite Desk and Ubuntu server on my Raspberry Pi, so I know its not the hardware.

Whats stranger is the speed tests like speedtest.net were even worse, 2-300 at best. If I took the pfSense box out of line and put my old router back, back to solid 940Mbits down and up. I have gig fiber via Ziply fiber.

Is getting these to work fully on pfSense a lost cause? I really do like how great it is, but I wouldn't wanna sacrifice that much bandwidth.

Thanks!

[Computer Engineering (Memory Organization)] How does a 16-Mbit DRAM have a memory array of 2048x2048x4?

I'm reading Stalling's 'Computer Organization and Architecture' to help me understand internal memory organization, but I'm a bit confused. (For reference I've found the same example from the textbook here on page 18 of this PowerPoint).

What I don't understand is, if we use a 2048x2048x4 array, wouldn't that mean the total size (i.e. number of bits that can be stored) would be 2048x2048x4 = 16,777,216? But, to my knowledge, 16Mbit is equal to 2MB, and if you take a word to be 4 bits, then wouldn't that mean the storage capacity would be 2x1024x1024x4 = 8,388,608?

On another note, if anyone knows of any resources on 2D, 2.5D and 3D memory organization, I would be grateful!

Upgraded to 200 mbits from 100 mbits, the only device which still gets the old speed is my computer on ethernet

So I have a self-built computer, motherboard is the MSI Tomahawk B450 Max.

On all the phones, the speed is indeed 200 mbits, on the laptops of my family the speed also reaches that, even with the ethernetcable I use for my computer, so it can't be the cable I think.

I have tried to put it on Full Duplex 1GBit in the adapter settings, turned off all the power savings measures in the adapter settings, updated the LAN drivers on my mother, my ISP did a router reset. Nothing, it still sticks at 90-100 Mbits per second, just like before the upgrade. I truly don't know what else it could be.

I think I might have a usb 3 network card in storage, I can try that.

Anybody have any suggestions? I am using a Cat5e cable.

Edit: Tried a USB 3.1 to gigabit ethernet adapter thingy, still at 100....

Edit: I uninstalled the LAN drivers, restarted, installed the latest LAN drivers again, restarted. No dice

Updated AMD chipset on my motherboard. Restarted, nothing.

Flashed an updated BIOS, nothing.

EDit: Solved, I tried a different cable and that worked. This makes NO sense because my own cable worked on my sisters laptop.

Speed capped at 100 Mbit

I have a Gigabit network router all PCs in the network have 1 Gbps speed. However my new PC I built today has not and I am really desperate as I have tried everything.

- DIfferent cable

- Different switch port

- I have tried to manually set 1 Gbps speed in windows, the settings seems persistent even after restart, but speed is still capped at 100 Mbit

- I use Cat5e cable

- NIC Intel I219-v is 1 Gbps

Ultimately I want to use Linux Debian, I have installed windows just to test the NIC because I had issues on Debian as well.

Any ideas please ?

Issue Solved:

Even when there was a text on the cable saying it is a "Cat.5e Gigabit Ethernet Cable" when I inspected the port, there were only 4 out for 8 pins connected, so it was probably some scam cheap cable and I did not noticed I had 2 cables like this. I used a different 3rd cable and checked the port and it has all 8 pins connected. Now it works at 1Gbps. Thanks for suggestions.
