Bu-Ma Democratic Protests (1979)
The Bu-Ma Democratic Protests against the South Korean Yushin regime began on this day in 1979, starting in Busan and later spreading to and Masan (now Changwon). The first to protest were students from Pusan National University, who began calling for the abolition of the Yushin regime in public demonstrations.
The protests quickly grew, and, just two days later, they had spread to Masan, resulted in the destruction of a tax collection office and burned police vehicles, and President Park Chung-hee declared martial law, arrested more than 1,000 people. On October 26th, President Park Chung-hee was assassinated, leading to the eventual dissolution of the Fourth Republic of South Korea.
On the 40th anniversary of the event, President Moon Jae-in apologized for the previous episodes of political repression, stating "As long as we have a history of great democratic protests, no power can rule over the people".
Hi everyone!
First, let me say thanks to all here who helped me find a good place to work in Korea nearly 2 years ago. Specifically /u/UReallyShouldTrustMe comes to mind for help with contract advice. I was exceedingly cautious and interviewed with tons of hagwons and read lots of sample contracts before I found and accepted this job. And to anyone who currently helps on this sub, thanks so much for the effort you put in. I would have been so lost without all the critiques I read of my own and other people's sample contracts here. With that said, I've noticed that you are tentatively allowing job offers for now, and since my boss asked me to make an attempt to find someone to fill my position, I thought I would post about the job I'll be leaving in October.
In October I'll be finishing my 2nd year teaching English at Park Jeong Language Institute in Masan, South Korea and I'll need someone to take my place. A TEFL/TESOL certification and/or previous teaching experience is preferred, but not required. I myself did not have a certification or any formal teaching experience before I started this job. All you need is a bachelor's degree in any subject.
It's a good job especially for someone who wants to get their feet wet teaching English. The working environment is friendly and the pay is always on time, which is not always true for private language institutes in Korea.
Please see below for details, and feel free to post or message me if you have any questions!
Reason for Leaving
It'll have been 2 years since I've been home and so I plan to go back for a few months, do a TEFL/TESOL certification, and then come back to Korea via EPIK.
Standard Schedule
Most days we come in at 2:15 p.m. to start planning but on Mondays we have to come in at 1:15. A free meal (homemade Korean food by our resident imo-nim) is provided by the hagwon every day starting at 4:30. Classes are 50 minutes with 5 minute passing periods and run from 5:15 to 10:50 but in my experience there is nearly always a planning period of 50 minutes in there somewhere, and sometimes even 2 planning periods. There is also a 15 minute break starting at 6:55. Also, if your planning period happens during the last period, you can leave 20 minutes early. There has only been one term here where every two weeks or so I had to teach 5 full hours (i.e. 6 classes) in a day with no 50 minute planning period. So that means a maximum of 5 hours in the classroom, but in practice more like 4 hour
... keep reading on reddit β‘I follow this sub regularly. I seemed to have missed it. Can someone please give me a recap of why "masan sucks".
Is it because you dislike the announcers?
I love fp and Bob and I seem to get the impression most of you do too. So I'm guessing it's not this.
Is it because you dislike the game coverage?
I haven't really watched many other regional channels, maybe masn's camera angles are stats teams are lacking? I haven't seen many complaints about this sort of thing so I'm also guessing it's not this.
Is it because of the lawsuits with the orioles?
Masn has certainly participated in defrauding the lerners out of money, but my understanding is that Masn is mostly an innocent bystander in a feud between millionaires. Even if they were complicit, what do I care about that?? I'm able to watch the nats whenever I want, with announcers I love. The only other issue is the money. And maybe this is a poor assumption, but I assume we all are adult enough to not care about the lerners bank account. We have been at or near the top three in salary many years running. Money is obviously an issue of profit margin not competitiveness for the nats. Yes, more money might have brought in bud black or brought back Bryce harper, but it's obviously silly to blame Masn for that..... Right?
What am I missing???
The viewbot operation shifted from Massan to P4wnyhof. Another Inormous client.
Dude suddenly has 10k viewers and his chat moves like he has 600 while he's fake as fuck.
