Notice how the NYT describes Kamala as having "history-making potential" but omits this label for Tulsi, even though she's a minority woman. NYT instead chooses to label Tulsi an anti-gay Assad lover. This is how establishment consensus tries to preemptively disqualify candidates mobile.twitter.com/mtrace…

We are Jess Devaney (producer) and Julie Rodgers (subject) of PRAY AWAY a Netflix documentary about the history of conversion therapy aka the "pray the gay away" movement. Joining us is Matthew Shurka from Born Perfect, an organization leading the campaign to end conversion therapy. AMA.

I'm Jess Devaney, founder and president of Multitude Films. My latest films include Netflix Original PRAY AWAY in partnership with Ryan Murphy and Blumhouse, Oscar-shortlisted CALL CENTER BLUES (TOPIC), and APART, an episode of the Sesame Workshop series THROUGH OUR EYES (HBO Max). I also produced Sundance award-winning ALWAYS IN SEASON (Independent Lens 2020), THE FEELING OF BEING WATCHED (POV 2019), Peabody-nominated ROLL RED ROLL (POV, Netflix 2019), and Critic’s Choice-nominated SPEED SISTERS (Netflix), among others. I founded QueerDoc and the Queer Producers Network. I'm queer and grew up evangelical in central FL, and currently live in Brooklyn where I co-parent two adorable cats with my ex-wife.

I’m Julie Rodgers, author of the memoir Outlove: A Queer Christian Survival Story. I grew up in the Dallas area in an Evangelical Christian family. When I came out to my family at 16, I was immediately sent to a conversion therapy ministry. For years, my entire life revolved around trying not to be gay. I share my story in PRAY AWAY a Netflix Original documentary. Today I live in Washington, DC. I’m a writer and speaker working for full inclusion for LGBTQ people in Christian communities. I share queer reflections on faith, public life, and chosen family at https://www.julierodgers.com/

I am Mathew Shurka, an advocate working to end conversion therapy across the country and around the globe β€” and a survivor of conversion therapy myself. Our team at Born Perfect (https://bornperfect.org) has passed laws banning conversion therapy in 20 states and over 100 cities. We have won 5 federal lawsuits against conversion β€œtherapist” challenging those laws. I have consulted on a dozen films, including Boy Erased, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, and now Netflix’s Pray Away. AMA!

Making Gay History Episode 03 β€” Edythe Eyde

Hey! I'm currently listening to the Making Gay History podcast, recordings of interviews from the late 80s (I think) with older people of the lgbt community. It's great all around, but this lady just seemed so lovely and courageous, and I wanted to share.

Edythe Eyde worked as a Hollywood secretary and was told to make herself look busy - so she wrote a lesbian magazine at work in the 1940s! 😎
