Why are hereditary honors not granted anymore in the UK?

Seeing that parliamentary privileges of hereditary peers are being curbed in the past years, shouldn't the justification to resume granting hereditary peerages increase? Also, Baronetcies provide a way to give somebody hereditary nobility without any attached privileges whatsoever. Wouldn't it make sense for example to give out life peerages together with hereditary baronetcies, or to ennoble a Prime Minister to the rank of Earl upon retirement?

After all, heredity is the factor that traditionally makes nobility distinct from other honors such as medals or honorary doctorates, that exist in any country including republics. As such, non-hereditary nobility somehow undermines the historical institution.

The King of Belgium regularly gives out hereditary nobility. Usually a personal or primogeniture title and untitled nobility or a lower title to all descendants in the male line.

Do you think that the nobiliary policy might change under Charles?

What makes you instantly drop a DxD fanfic?

What are some DxD fanfiction cliches that make you guys instantly drop it? For me it would be:

  1. Making Issei not perverted or letting him experience some traumatic event that makes him give up being a pervert (Yea, that's definitely going to happen). Things like this are extremely disrespectful to the story of DxD and Issei as a character and are only done because the author doesn't like perverts. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against AU fics but things like that usually show that the author of that fic has no respect for the source material. There is no way that Issei wouldn't end up being a pervert, no matter where he was raised because it's literally in his genes, his whole family is made out of perverts. Issei without his perverted side is not Issei, it's a completely new character and if you don't want to write about Issei why are you even making him the protagonist of your story?
  2. Making Rias evil. This one is also really stupid. Just like with Issei, this is incredibly disrespectful to Rias character and is only there because of the author's bias and ignorance. Again, an evil Rias would be an interesting AU idea, but even then there are a lot of problems with this. Firstly, if Rias really would have been as evil as fanfics make her out to be, the plot of DxD would have never happened because Issei would have died. Rias only saved Issei out of pure altruism, if she had been evil why would she waste the valuable evil pieces on some random dying guy on the street? Demons can't sense sacred gears like angels and fallen angels and even if she could why would she let Raynare kill him? She could just go to him and ask him and even if he rejects she could convince him with force or bully him into joining it. Even if she acted sweet to get him into her peerage and awaken his potential, there is no way that would have worked. Contrary to what many fanfic writers believe Issei is NOT easy to manipulate. Issei is actually really good at figuring out people's true intentions (as long as it didn't involve his own love life. He was the first one to look through Diodora's acting and he instantly figured out that Tsubaki was in love with Kiba, not to mention that his first impressions of people are always pretty on point. Also, someone in her peerage like Kiba or Koneko would have likely informed him about her true personality sooner or later. Also, that is another huge problem with the concept. If Rias was evil and was only interested in the usefulness of

Merger Constitution between the 1889 Constitution and 1947 Constitution of Japan

This discussion post tenured towards Japanese Monarchists; however, I also highly recommend monarchists of other nations to chime in with this discussion:

How would one implement a "merger constitution" of the 1889 and the 1947 Constitutions of Japan into THE constitution? I know more of the 1889 Meiji Constitution than the 1947 Constitution as the latter one is too "liberal-democratic" for my liking as it reduces the Emperor to a mere ceremonial figurehead.

Here are some of my proposed elements for the merger constitution to balance the 1889 Constitution and 1947 Constitution dichotomy:

  1. Some elements of the "1889 Meiji Constitution" or the "Imperial Era" are retained such as:
    1. The Emperor is sacred and inviolable and head of state.
    2. The Emperor confers the title, order, and ranks of nobility and other honors all of which are hereditary. (i.e. the 4 class system of Imperial Family, Peerage Nobility, Warrior Gentry, and Commoners from the Meiji-Era)
    3. The Emperor is the Supreme Commander of the armed forces
    4. The Imperial Diet shall be composed of two houses, the Upper House of Peers and Councillors and the Lower House of Representatives
    5. The Upper House of Peers and Councillors is appointed by the Emperor for life while the Lower House of Representatives is democratically elected by the citizens of the nation, which is subjected to dissolution by decree from the Emperor
    6. The Privy Council is reinstated and members of the Privy Council shall deliberate all matters of the State to the Emperor. All members of the Privy Council are appointed by the Emperor and serve for life.
    7. The Imperial Household Laws are to be amended by the Emperor personally with advice from the Privy Council, Members of the Imperial Family, and the Imperial Household Agency.
    8. The Western-inspired Empire-style court dresses from the Meiji Era are to be reinstated for ceremonial uses.
  2. Some elements of the 1947 Constitution retained are:
    1. Prime Minister heads the Lower House and the Ministerial Cabinet.
    2. The democratically elected Lower House is subjected to dissolution by the Emperor in the 1889 and 1947 Constitution with the advice of the Prime Minister as outlined in the 1947 Constitution or advice from the Privy Council.

These are some of my main points; however, this is an abridged or condensed version.

Here is the link to my already posted merger and how it should be framed with a more in-depth analysis:[https://www.re

If America introduces a monarchy, what should be the titles of nobility?

Political offices in America are a lot like life peerages, because the officeholders can style themselves as "President", "Governor" or "Senator" for life, and the wives of Presidents and Governors derive the title of "First Lady" from their husbands. Burke's Peerage records the male-line descendants of all Presidents, and the Social Register also admits a family upon the gaining of the presidency.

Some states, like Kentucky, grant military-style titles to civilians for Life (for example "Honorary Colonelcies"), which clearly are surrogates for titles of nobility, whose bestowal is banned by the Constitution as of now.

If America ever becomes a hereditary monarchy, it will most likely be an Empire. But what should be the titles of nobility outside the Royal Family, and how should they be inherited?

In my opinion, states should have the choice of adopting German-style sub-monarchies. The tier would depend on size. So we might have a Kingdom of Texas or Kingdom of California, but Delaware would be a Principialty or a Duchy.

Sub-state level monarchies are also possible. You can create well-deserving citizens Counts and give them Counties, for example.

But what would be the other titles of nobility, not associated with land?

And would they mirror the British system, in which only one person at a time can hold a given title, or the Continental, in which a title can multiply among all legitimate male-line descendants of the grantee?

In my opinion, a mixed approach could be followed here. While titles above Count or Earl could mirror British peerages, there should be a possibility to grant a title to be given to all male-line descendants. Owing to the many Germans who migrated to America, some of which brought German titles or just a "von", it should be possible to create a Baron and rule that all his sons, and unmarried daughters, should also be known as Barons and Baronesses.

In respect to Salic law, at least in the German tradition, a noble lady becomes a commoner woman and loses her nobility upon marrying a commoner. In that case, the Emperor (or state monarchs, if the power to grant nobility is delegated to them) would examine the man, and might find that he is worthy of being granted nobility himself.

Upon the establishment of the monarchy, male-line descendants of Presidents (or in the case of Washington of his adopted heir), Vice-Presidents, Governors, Lt. Governors and Officers who fought for the Union during the Revolutionary War should be elig

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Compromise for Japan

The pre-WW2 hereditary nobility is reinstated. Anybody who is a direct male-line descendant of a Princely House, a Kazoku (Peer) or a Shizoku (Warrior class) has his status confirmed by the government, and in case he is also the most senior of the heirs he can use the title. The Emperor begins conferring Shizoku status (I hope that it is appropriate to compare it to Continental untitled nobility, for example a German plain "von") and Kazoku peerages to distinguished statesmen, entrepreneurs and officers.

Succession to the Throne is in the male line only, in case the main male line dies out the most senior agnatic collateral line (I suppose those are the "Princely Houses", right?) must replace it.

If a Princess of the Imperial House marries a Kazoku or Shizoku man, she keeps her title of Princess as a courtesy title for the rest of her life and gets the status of "Imperial Woman", she continues to do public service on behalf of the state. Her husband might be raised by one or two ranks within the peerage, or if he does not hold the title but is a cadet descendant or just a Shizoku, he might get his first peerage title. She also gets a generous dowry to help her husband give his new wife the lifestyle she is accustomed to and raise the children well.

If the princess wants to marry a commoner, however: if the Emperor likes him, and he has enough achievements to be ennobled anyway sooner or later, he raises him to the nobility and the above rule comes into effect. But if he is unacceptable, the Princess loses her status, and also does not get a dowry to prevent him from profitting off the money of the Imperial Household.

The current rule makes no difference between good and bad candidates for the hand of a Princess. As a Princess loses her status no matter whether she marries a commoner or a nobleman due to no legally recognized nobility, there is no incentive for the Imperial Family to give their daughters only to noblemen. Such a rule would allow the Emperor greater control over his daughters, as there would be incentive now to marry either a nobleman or a commoner who would be ennobled sooner or later anyway instead of some idiot who fails his bar exam and is laughed at by the public.

Of course, the Princes of the Imperial House must marry only with the permission of the Emperor as well, perhaps only the first 10 men in line to the Throne (I presume that there will be a long line of succession in case the collateral branches are reinstated). Otherwise

ANNOUNCING A NEW ELECTION SERIES - The President, the King, and the Kaiser - World Lore

The First Weltkrieg:

As Europe burned in the fire of the Great War, the United States of America prospered. President Wilson’s vow to remain neutral is what got him elected and he is sticking to it… mostly. The President is partial to the Entente and Kaiser Wilhelm II knows this. In a rare moment of intelligence, the Kaiser listened to his advisors and made the decision to not resume unrestricted submarine warfare and to begin massive propaganda operations inside the US, providing stark evidence of the hunger and hardship that the Entente blockade is inflicting on Central Europe to newspapers. Moved to action, wealthy German-Americans start a charity for German children, gathering clothes, toys and treats to be distributed as Christmas gifts. Tragedy struck when a Royal Navy submarine mistook their vessel, the SS George Washington, for a German ship and torpedoed it, taking it down with all hands.

The SS George Washington Before Being Sunk by a British Submarine

Confused initial reports implied that the sub had full knowledge that they were sinking an American vessel and even left drowning passengers to die in the North Atlantic. German spies and prominent yellow journalists such as William Randolph Hearst seized on the opportunity, and by the time the full story was revealed, public outrage had already reached a fever pitch. President Wilson implored the British to compromise and let non-war supplies through before Congress votes for sanctions or other punitive measures. With little choice, the blockade ceases counting farm products, foodstuffs, and other critical goods as war material, delivering the Central Powers from looming famine.

The mass media struck another killing blow to the interventionist cause in the Fall of 1917, when leaks from the FBI surrounding the investigation into the Black Tom Explosion implied that there was a belief the explosion had been orchestrated by foreign operatives. After the George Washington incident, hints of foreign action pointed squarely to the Entente and by the time official statements were put out, most of America believed the Entente was trying to spur the US into action by blaming sabotage on Imperial Germany.

The End of the War:

With the US firmly out of the war, famine and economic collapse staved off, and the Russian Revolution effectively ending the Eastern Fr

Going Native, Chapter 35

Read Chapter 1 Here

Previous Chapter Here

An early update because I wanted to do one. Let me know what you think!

****

It wasn't right. It wasn't HIM.

Stace forced himself to look at his omnipad again. He had the front camera turned on so he could use it like a mirror. There it was. Two eyes. One hazel, a sort of brown green. What he had seen every day for over forty years, at least when he bothered to look in a mirror. The other a field of black with a golden ring for an iris, looking like a piece of fine jewelry floating in a pool of oil.

It didn't just look wrong, it FELT wrong. The colors were too saturated, the acuity just a smidge too sharp. As Stace looked himself in the eye, he could feel the foreign, alien presence clawing into his face. He was contaminated. It wasn't right. It was-

Elera's hand snatched the omnipad from him and Stace turned to look at her. Purple skin, tusks framing dark lips. Black hair recently cut to end just at her jawline.... and the eyes. The same eyes he was now infected with.

"Stace... Stace. Stace!" Elera's hand came up, finger snapping. He felt his eyes drift, following the movement of her fingers. The moment passed and the rest of the world started to come into focus, the odd over-saturation faded. "What the hell was that?"

"It's.... I..." How could he explain it? Even if he had the words, how could he convey it? Stace tried to meet Elera's eyes, but he couldn't look her in the face. He just couldn't. "It doesn't feel like me."

"Does it hurt? Is it calibrated wrong?" Her concern was obvious, but she was just making it worse, trying to inspect his face, making her own inhumanity more and more apparent. He pulled away from her, turning towards the wall.

"No, no, stop. It's... it's in my head." Come on, Elera, please understand. The words wouldn't come but Stace hoped desperately that she could somehow figure it out. "It feels not right."

"Stace.... why won't you look at me?" It broke his heart to hear the plaintive question in her voice. It was clear how much this was hurting her, but he just couldn't do it. He raised his left arm and covered his face with the crook of his elbow. It was the best he could manage.

"I'm sorry. I.... I can't."
