A list of puns related to "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"
I just saw the last show on west end andβ¦ I really didnβt enjoy it. I went into it blind, hadnβt listened to the music and barely knew what it was about. I was pretty disappointed.
The only part I liked was the narrator, she had a great range. But as a whole I wasnβt really compelled by any of the characters. The story also left me thinkingβ¦ Is that it? I always wasnβt very impressed with the music and choreography and the bunch of little kids on stage was a bit odd in my opinion (Reminded me off all the christmas songs lol)
I was just confused because people seemed to adore it so much! Is it because they grew up with it or something?
Iβm just curious about why people enjoyed it and Iβd love to hear what people have to say (:
Thanks so much for all the replies, Iβve gauged that - for the most part - the only people who enjoy it are:
A.) Little kids
B.) People who listen to it as a kid and love it because of nostalgia
C.) People who were in it, apparently itβs really fun to be in
I also think that I had my expectations set far too high because of all the good words I've heard about it from friends etc. If I had known its roots and that it was originally written as a school play* and known that it was supposed to be more lighthearted and fun I would've perhaps had my expectations managed more and would have enjoyed the show far more than I did.
*Apparently It wasnβt a school play, and upon looking into it more it was written for an English school where it would be performed as a 15 minute pop cantata
Does anyone know why in Song of the King when Joseph asks the Pharaoh to repeat the corn verse in most productions the Pharaoh repeats the cow verse instead? I have been in this show and no one knew quite why
I just had to bring this up, how brilliant I find Webber's musical brilliance in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Having the variations of tone and theme reflected throughout the score is a brilliant move. Pharoh = Elvis?? Obviously. And you just gotta love the cowboy song. That's the best song. The disco is fun too. It's just all so fun. And moving. And complex. And intellectual. Really unbeatable. I don't think anybody has ever come close to matching the brilliance Andrew Lloyd Webber creates with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Andrew Lloyd Webber is releasing a different stage show each Friday on The Show Must Go On - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdmPjhKMaXNNeCr1FjuMvag.
I misheard "every week" and didn't realise each one would only be for 72 hours!
I missed the first one that was released at - https://youtu.be/N6XjXfQmZ4Q - and, My Google-fu has failed me. Did anyone take a copy?
In addition, is there any megathread/anyone archiving all the content that is coming out because of Covid-19?
Thanks

I noticed a very peculiar filming choice, when they were talking about Joseph being sold into slavery, they had a camera angle that picked up 2 black kids in the βaudienceβ. Seemed rather odd since most of the kids in the audience were white. Think this was intentional?
Do note that this seems to be some sort of abridgement. (37:45)
But it is rather good quality for it's age.
