A list of puns related to "Hiwatt"
Hi there. Iโm specifically looking for a Dunwich Amplification HM2 - below are some of the items I have to offer. If anyone is interested or has one let me know.

Looking for a good pedal platform with high headroom. Iโve owned two twins (BF reissue and a vintage SF), didnโt bond with either of them. I found the Twins too stiff and they sounded awkward with fuzz pedals. Now Iโm looking at a Hiwatt or a Fender SR. After playing Marshallโs all my life, Iโm a little afraid Iโll find the Hiwatts too stiff. Iโve grown quite accustomed to saggy amps...
I'm thinking about buying a used Hiwatt Custom 20 or 50. Based on what i've found online there are incredibly built (no PCBs, old school UK military-grade quality and etc). But there is so little information about them. All i managed to find is that it's "an upgraded VOX / amp with ton of clean headroom / eats pedals well"... and not much besides it.
Any chance someone in this tred owns one and can give some feedback?
I`m looking to get my first tube amp.
I have a vox pathfinder 12 which I like the sound of - and a boss katana 50mk2 that I have a hard time making friends with.
I dont like the computerized interface I have to deal with on the katana - and I dont seem to get a clean sound I enjoy from it.
I play mostly with my Mascis Jazzmaster.
Both the Laney cub 12 combo and the HiWatt hi-5 looks interesting to me.
I`m kind of beginner+ / low intermediate player.. as far as the sounds I like I guess I have to be classfied as an "edge of breakup"-guy. Though I do want to play sabbathian tones as well. I do enjoy my pedalboard :)
I live in a house with my family (small kids that sleep when I play guitar) - that means volume has to be low.
Pros for the Laney are: already has an attenuator. Looks nice. Cheaper.
If I go the HiWatt option I will get something like a harley benton vintage 1x12 cab and an attenuator.
In total I guess it will be 50% more expensivet than the Laney.
Anyone with experience with one or the other.. or even both?
Getting a clone of a 50w Hiwatt made! Iโve never owned a Hiwatt let alone played through one. Iโve always loved British cleans but have struggled with the limited headroom most amps have to offer. So Iโm looking for tone recs, warnings, encouragements โ any and all insights regarding hiwatts. Iโll be playing a jazzmaster and a strat through it. Cheers!
Are there any amp heads that are close to the old custom 100s?
I wanna get a small practice amp for my apartment around the $100 range and I really like hiwatts stuff, is the hiwatt crunch 15r any good or just the MIE stuff from them?
Hey everyone, Iโm about to embark on a HiWatt DR504 clone build. Iโve never owned a HiWatt nor played one, but Iโve always wanted a high headroom British amp. This one will have a master volume. Any tone tips?
There's no serial number plate. Only writing is "PS" and "QF" on the inside of the casing (not the electronics) Blue pen marks on some components. Wiring seems to match early 70s and the caps and pots show 72 / XX so I'm guessing '72 or '73.
I just got a hiwatt crunch 25r and when i plug it in and turn it on it makes 2 pops and a grinding noise then when i turn it off it makes a beep for a second and another pop, anyone know what might be causing this? Would it be an easy fix or should i see if i can get it replaced?
Has anyone found a decent replica of the Hiwatt Custom 50? Or have you made on in Bias Amp?
Alternatively, can someone Amp Match it? I'd really love to get that sound.
Cheers
Sorry for the long post guys. I'm just pretty mad at this point and I feel like HiWatt are being a little shady so I want to share my experience and see if anyone else is in a similar position.
Picture the scene: you get an email from Reverb on 420 telling you about super limited edition Hiwatt amps. They have this beautiful Hi-5 (dual channel 5w valve head) for absolutely great price, and its finished in Green tolex. The thing looks beautiful and you hit the link.
Its in stock. There's only 100 worldwide. You dont need another amp head but hell, for under ยฃ300 for a limited edition HiWatt, you think "f*ck it". Shipping date is stated as being 1st June, so that'll give you about 5/6 weeks to make some space and broach the absolute necessity of this being in my life to my wife.
You go to pay and it looks like the payment is in USD, this is weird as HiWatt, along with Marshall and Orange are one of the classic British amp manufactuers. You check their location: Bircoates, United Kingdom. Okay cool, you really dont want to be importing amps from abroad and risking import fees, handling charges and damages. You're in the UK and if they're retailing to consumers in the UK then all prices are inclusive of taxes, so no nasty suprises.
Maybe paying in USD is some tax thing, maybe its some weird deal they made with Reverb. Not my problem really as Paypal will a accommodate.
I put in the order. Just the head. I've got time to source a small guitar cab but I REALLY want to see how it sounds with my Bass VI through my bass cab. It could be the perfect recording amp for me.
I wait.
I wait.
Then I forget about it.
Then its the 13th of June and I think "wait, shouldnt I have received this by now?". I check Reverb and have a look at HiWatts feedback to see if customers are receiving them. Customers are, but not the green tolex ones yet. I also notice something odd, negative feedback from someone stating that Parcelforce charged a customer in the UK import charges amounting to ยฃ70, the amp cost less than ยฃ300, so thats quite a charge.
Wait, what? That's really odd. If you're in the UK and buying from a UK seller, then the prices include tax. Weird, okay. You want to know where your order is anyway so message HiWatt through Reverb. Asking about the order status and this oddity with the customs charges as if there are meant to be additional fees, then I'd just like to cancel the order.
No response.
June 15th, no response so I send them another message.
... keep reading on reddit โกThere is some info on these on the world wide intergoogle, but hardly any. I can't find anything from Hiwatt themselves, just a couple of magazine reviews for the 50w combo. I just bought the 100w head used and was wondering if anyone could tell me their experience/send me any links?
Here is the ebay listing I bought for anyone wondering. These are not the current "Super Hi" models, they're something different. I also know they're not point to point and not UK made, but I'm not really bothered about that.
As far as I know, they were around in the later 2010s, and there were at least four models (possibly more):
100w Head with emulated ouput (SER)
One can only assume the other models also had SER versions, but I have never seen them.
Any info would be appreciated!
Hi there, recently I bought a hiwatt t40/20 tube head from Ireland and I live in the states. Now the power cable that came with it was an EU one but my question is would I simply be able to use any American amp power cable on it? On the back of the amp it lists all the different voltages but 230 seems to be checked. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Does anyone know of places to buy hiwatt amps in the uk other than places like reverb as the places listed on the hiwatt website donโt have many stores none of which have a very extensive range of stock that I can tell.
[question] Make a Hiwatt sound like a fender twin?
I have a dr103 that was recently recapped and retuned in the power section(tad el34). Now thereโs a lot of hazy mids in my tone and Iโve lost a lot of articulation and top end clarity. Havenโt changed the pre amp tubes since I bought the amp. What I really want is the top end clarity and note definition of a fender twin with the head room and tight low end of my high watt. I get most of my gain from fuzz and I need that clarity to juice the character out of those pedals. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do to achieve this? I was thinking a pre amp tube swap but I donโt know where to start? Iโm looking to have a real hi fi sound and to ultimately tighten up those mids. I was thinking gold pin tung sol RI but Iโm not sure. Just super super clean and kind of modern tone thatโs still dynamic and punchy.
Was also thinking of switching the el34s to golden lion kt88s. Is that possible? Hiwattโs are fixed bias so I should be able to just stick em in there right?
Iโm so lost and need help! Thank you so much
Iโve got a Hi-Tone Custom 50 that Iโm going to be replacing all of the tubes in. Will I be okay to just straight up swap them out and then play? Or do I need to get it biased? I tried looking for a bias control but I couldnโt find one, but Iโm also not an amp guru. Basically, Iโm replacing the tubes. What else will I need to do since Iโm replacing these? Thanks for the help guys!
