I am a big Witcher, Game of Thrones, and Lord of the Rings enthusiast and am looking for some anime that are similar. I have seen Castlevania and loved it if that helps. Thanks!
I've been really enjoying the Wax and Wayne Mistborn books by Brandon Sanderson, I really like the industrial revolution-like setting, and I'm excited to see how Sanderson tackles Era 3 with the 80's-like setting and era 4 with the space opera.
But in the meantime, are there any other series out there that also don't take place in a medieval setting. Preferably ones that have a hard magic system, and any kind of time period will suffice.
Also, please no Urban Fantasy, or series that take place in our world
Iโm kind of tired of the whole medieval setting that high fantasy canโt seem to shake off of. Are there any books out there that have a more unique world or perhaps a better twist upon this trope?
Thanks in advance!
Iโm currently putting my first Kit for reenactment together (infantryman 1250-1270, southern modern Dady germany) and now iโm thinking of getting a good quality cervelliere or a kettle helmet (no cheap Indian stuff). But Iโm not completely sure whether to go for a mild steel or medium carbon steel version. On the one hand mild steel would be closer to the metallurgy of extant 13th century helmets, since medium carbon steel seems not to be particular common until the late 14th century, but on the other hand a helmet of medium carbon steel might be more suitable for modern reenactment purposes, since itโs less likely to deform under energy exposure. But in the case of medium carbon steel the carbon content would be much higher than the Carbon content of the vast majority of extant helmets.
Whatโs your opinion on this problem?
Sorry for my bad english. Iโm not a native speaker
What should my men at arms be comprised of at this point? Iโm playing as the empire of Russian and Iโm almost to the point of uniting Slavic nations. Occasionally I need to put down a few uprisings and revolts at the same time.
Hi!
im looking for a medieval/high fantasy adaptation for city of mist, someone can point me? (if exists)
Thanks!
Thereโs the common story of the heroic commoner being knighted and granted land, but in all my amateur reading of the medieval era, the only example I know of is John de Coupland, and Iโm not even certain he was a commoner. While I requested England Iโm curious in general.
Iโve recently begun rereading Game of Thrones and was reminded just how much I enjoyed not only the character interactions but the uncertainty. Iโve read some fantasy lately that was just so obvious itโd end โhappilyโ. While Iโm completely open to a happy ending, Iโd love to read something new thatโll have me genuinely concerned about the outcome of a battle or confrontation.
Iโm trying to branch out to new series and books as Iโm in a bit of a reading slump.
I've spent the past few months building a fantasy world known as Elion, and writing the first chapter of my novel, which will be set in the world of Elion. Attached is a link to the first chapter, as well as a map of Elion. Please give me some feedback, I'd really appreciate it and it will help me continue the novel. If you have any questions about the world of Elion feel free to ask, I would love to answer them. Thanks in advance! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OzXgGB7BRDUSMhQX-OdCpoaY4T2-5-AJcfYWDvswqJw/edit?usp=sharing
As far as I can tell painting helmets became popular around 1150 (although I have found a couple sources dating earlier than that). The only issue is I can't seem to find a source as to exactly how it was done. I''ve been attempting to paint my nasal helm authentically for a couple days now so far I've tried
Of course I could have messed up in these so they're not completely ruled out as approaches they just struck me as possible options given what was available. Does anyone know how they would have done it in period?
I'm attempting to create a good worldbuilding and need both a sword coated in silver for someone from a royal family and need to find if there is a way to (without the usage of magic for it is a sort of low magic world) use the coal/ashes of a sacred Araucaria tree in the metal of a sword as a sort of one-use ritual blade (no powers will be gained but the ritual requires a part of the burned sacred tree to be fused with the metal of the sword).
I know it is useless to anyone but me, but i tried to find information about it but don't know the terms to search that would give me medieval results, all i got was electroplating and galvanization as metal coating techniques and i don't trust Wikipedia to give me a good answer. Thanks in advance for any help provided.
Your entire city/town suddenly gets transported/teleported to a medieval high fantasy place with places similar to Earth.
A large box encapsulates your entire city/town if you don't live in a city, and then everyone's vision is suddenly shrouded in a bright light. After a few seconds, boom, you guys are smack down in the middle of some plains and a dirt road. You still have a water system, since the entire underground that has been manipulated in some way is also transported. You guys also suddenly have a 10 feet concrete wall covering the entire perimeter of your transported town/city.
A few hours later, 7 flying creatures going at 40 knots that resemble wyverns, were seen near the border of your area, and lands in the middle of a park, or a large space.
Several men were actually riding the wyverns, and one of them, the big bulky dude with big black armor on him, mounts off the wyvern.
From the looks of them, they seem to be baffled at the sheer differentness of the environment and the tall buildings, foreign contraptions and machinations of the entire place.
Anyway, the big leader dude with black armor with the helmet on, removes it and shows the face of a man with long red hair, blue eyes, slightly dark skinned that would make it look like he is of middle eastern descent, and a large scar on his face.
He speaks to you in what is understandably english, you somehow happens to be nearby for whatever reason and says "You, what is this place, who are you people and where is your leader? " What will you do?
Turns out these dudes were patrolling the air space of an Empire of this world, hovering above the trade routes that connect the Anglonian Empire and the Franks Kingdom when they suddenly saw a bright flash of light, and the city was there suddenly, obstructing the trade routes.
How do you think will your town/city react? Will the wyverns even be able to go in the city/town undetected first or does your place have some AA capabilities that could warn them first?
Edit:
Alright, here's a bit more context and information of the fantasy world:
How to kill stuff:
Sufficient force should be able to take down any opponent in this world. I. E. A 10 meter tall stone golem wouldn't be able to take several rounds from a tank. Maybe 2 times, but it could probably be destroyed after that. It could definitely wreak havoc in close contact or if it throws a large boulder towards the tank.
A normal wyvern's skin can only be penetrated by 15 mm rounds or abov
... keep reading on reddit โกim looking for anime that would remind you of something like DnD, rpg games, or something along those lines. magic, fantastical creatures like dragons.. that kind of stuff.
things im not really looking for: high-tech/industrial e.g. FMA:B, or mostly comedy e.g. konosuba
for reference, some things that fit that bill that ive heavily enjoyed (off the top of my head):
also, for whatever reason i cant explain.. i couldnt get into shield hero at all, so just dont recommend that lol.
Lately I've been getting more into playing JRPG games, but most games I know from this genre are ones that take place in a medieval high fantasy setting, which is unnapealling to me and I find it a bit overused.
So I'd like to know the best games in this genre that have different settings, like:
Just anything that isn't the usual medieval world with goblins, elves and magic.
โPeace had never been a proper descriptor for the planet, though it technically wasnโt wrong. Instead, a quietness had always hung in the air, no matter the setting. On its breath, hidden beneath words that were said behind closed doors, a threat lingered, its sound increasing with each passing day.
These whispers of war have now become a subject recognized, having everyone concerned. In order to try to soften some of the blow, two royal houses have agreed to have their sons marry, sealing a shaky alliance against a coming storm. But will this marriage, this agreement, even be able to flourish? Will it hold? Or will both houses lose what little footing they have?โ
Hi there! Iโm 26M, Iโve been writing for 10+ years, and as this ad lists, Iโm currently looking for someone to join me.
Hereโs a few requirements: -There will be dark/smexual content, so no one under the age of 20. -You need to be an experienced, comfortable writer, able to make literate posts with decent detail. -You need to be comfortable in storytelling, able to play different characters from your characterโs house, have your character make decisions big enough to change the story, etc. (Iโll be doing the same). -Iโm totally fine with talking OOC! Chatting is fun. -You donโt have to post every day! Weโre adults with lives. But I do ask for a warning if you canโt post that day.
If youโre interested, please send me a message! Then we can talk things through.
