[Election] 2027 Hellenic Parliament: Same Old New Democracy

July 8th, 2027

Athens, Greece

The Parliamentary elections of 2027 were decided well in advance; between the success of New Democracy in leading Greece's recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic [M] check that one off the bingo [/M], the renewal of pro-Europeanism throughout the continent, and the disastrous consequences of radicalism across the world manifested in the Taylor-Greene Presidency in the United States, it is no surprise that the center of Greek politics held essentially every card in the deck. The near-collapse of the United States had demonstrated the ill fate of populist movements, and a sort of overarching desire for normalcy permeated global politics in its wake. Therefore, going into the 2027 elections, New Democracy felt quite comfortable in its position of power and the party's new president, Takis Mikakis, successor to the popular Kyriakos Mitsotakis, anticipated an easy victory -- an apt prediction that would ultimately come true.

Party Positions Representatives (Change)
New Democracy (ND) Center-right Christian democracy 160 (+2)
Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) Left-wing populism 72 (-14)
Movement for Change (KINAL) Social democracy 44 (+22)
European Realistic Disobedience Front (MERA) Pro-European progressivism 14 (+5)
Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Marxist-Leninist communism 9 (-6)
Greek Solution (EL) Far-right populism 1 (-9)

Notably, the Greek Solution and Communist Party of Greece have both lost substantial ground, with the far-right nearly collapsing in the wake of the disastrous results of extreme conservatism taking hold in the United States. Most importantly, the Movement for Change performed well beyond expectations, splitting the left between the more radical and moderate factions. While both sides have agreed to work together on important issues for now, it remains to be seen if the left's penchant for infighting will take down one party, or possibly even both. Ultimately, New Democracy stands unchallenged as the dominant force in Greek politics, owning a commanding majority of the Hellenic Parliament, placing a great responsibility upon the fresh shoulders of Prime Minister Mikakis.

[Event] Hellenic parliament announces new Greek National Flag

Almost a year has passed since it was revealed the citizens of Greeks would gladly welcome a new flag to represent them. Since then, the Hellenic Parliament has been continuously looking for a replacement, surveying multiple cities across the country, as well as email, phone and televised surveys and discussions.

Today, it was announced that the Greek National flag would be changing. With the new FLAG being unveiled and hoisted above the Hellanic Parliment on live television. The President then gave a speech, which outlined the meaning behind the new flag, with the main body being a flag which previously represented the Greek people years ago, with the addition of the 4 betas to show the extensive history of the land.

The Hellenic Parliment then uploaded the alternative flags that lost out on replacing the old >azure and white

[NEWS] Amendment crossing out section 3.0 from the Hellenic Alliance between Macedonia and Greece passed the Macedonian Parliament and was signed by the Prime Minister.... Deputy PM goes full out against USHR, states the international community did good.

> 3.0) A Defense Pact shall be put in place, which shall state that if any of the two nations are declared war upon, the other shall join the war in defense of the other nation who was declared war upon.

Macedonia still upholds the rest of the Hellenic Alliance, but the Defense Pact Obligation has been eliminated from Macedonia. Lawmakers call the USHR a "Turncoat & Coward" and even criticize the Prime Minister, Alexander Magos for starting the alliance in the first place, many lawmakers are convinced by the whole international community that has set a hate for USHR, and the fact USHR has no other allies is for a good reason for the countries actions.

The Prime Minister, Alexander Magos, released no statement attacking USHR, but he did sign legislation to remove the Defense Pact, officially he "has remained neutral for other reasons", a source said.

Macedonia despite its difference it can now see, still seeks a friendly neighbor at least, but not as much as a "ally" any more.

###DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER AND FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER SAYS OTHERWISE:

"We stood with USHR, backed them up so well, even though we disagreed with there actions, we hoped they would fix themselves. We worked tirelessly sacrificing our world relations working with USHR to hope to get the same back, in hope to get a mutual friendship, an alliance together in efforts to help each other. But the second Macedonia had a crisis, a crisis, which could have been our fault, we could have been wrong. But USHR was quick to side against Macedonia, gave no support, and left Macedonia in the dust. Maybe we acted wrongly, but for what we had to deal with what the USHR did, and how we backed them up... It's sad we got no support in the end, and we got nothing but a back stab.. but with communism, that is all you get. The Prime Minister is a good man, but too much of a good man to call out USHR for there crimes, but I will, and I did. The world did a good thing by eliminating USHR's military, its a sad thought they didn't do more."

As of now, it is unsure of who perpetrated such a heinous crime against members of the Hellenic government, however, in the meantime, the Archchancellor has declared a week of mourning, and all Hellenic and Roman flags alike will be flown at half-mast according. In addition, a short-lived state of national emergency was enacted, however, with all MPs now evacuated and under the protection of the National Guard, everything has been normalized.

The Archchancellor and several governmental ministers have pledged to uncover the perpetrators of the bombing. Many suspect the group 'Ypaskous' to be responsible, however, leaders of the investigation are skeptical that Ypaskous would be capable of an undertaking of such magnitude.

[NEWS] New political group forms in Hellenic Parliament

December 28th, 2049

Following the 2049 Hellenic Parliamentary Elections, a new political group has formed within the parliament when members of several different groups defected and amalgamated to form the 'Civic Democratic Platform' (ฮ”ฮทฮผฮฟฮบฯฮฑฯ„ฮนฮบฯŒ ฮšฯŒฮผฮผฮฑ ฮ ฮฟฮปฮนฯ„ฯŽฮฝ/Dimokratikรณ Kรณmma Politรณn), or DKP abbreviated.

The group has yet to be officially registered as a political group, however, it is presently comprised of 11 members, 3 from the social-democratic Democratic Left, 2 from the liberal-conservative Hellenic People's Party, a single independent, and the remaining 5 from the social-liberal Liberal Democrats.

The group has proclaimed conservative-liberalism, liberal nationalism, and classic liberalism as its principle tenets, and has been described as both right and left of centre, which may explain the reasoning behind it attracting members from across the political spectrum.

The DKP has also announced its intention to form a coalition government with the ruling social-liberal Progressive Forum.

More to come.

[NEWS] Hellenic Parliament votes to organize new Archchancellery election

August 6th, 2044

Recently, the ELK-YKE dominated parliament has voted in favour of hosting new elections for the position of Archchancellor by the end of the 2044 year, with a very small majority of 213 out of 210 (3/5) of votes required.

"Roussos has served the nation admittedly well during the beginning of his term, having liberated our brothers and sisters in Italy from rebel control, having overseen the creation of a basic-income apparatus that effectively reduced poverty levels, and having worked alongside the Vouliarch to maintain a failsafe budget every year. However, Roussos' failure to properly prosecute members of Ypaskous for potential acts of treason, as opposed to detaining several innocent members of the organization illegally, coupled with his failure to protect our territorial integrity from a British infiltration, and finally his decision to all but cease further military production within the Commonwealth, despite the world having been in one of the most turbulent periods ever seen, has resulted in Parliament voting to expel him from office."

-Stelios Nicolaides, MP (DIMAR)

The following candidates have been elected from their respective parties:

  • Damien Roussos (Democratic Left) - incumbent, former governor of Central Macedonia and Roman Senator (aged 47)

  • Lord Konstantinos Vasiliou (Hellenic People's Party) - current Logothete-General of the Vouliarch, 2nd Kephale of Greater-Attica (aged 64)

  • Alexandra Papandreou (Progressive Forum) - current MP for Evrytania and Minister of Labour & Social Security (aged 41)

  • Eleftheria Apostolou (United Hellenes Movement) - current Roman Senator, former member of the Vouliarch (aged 55)

  • Giannis Zografos (Liberal Democrats) - current MP for Arcadia (aged 43)

  • Sofia Alexopoulos (Ecologist Greens) - current MP for Pieria (aged 38)

[NEWS] New Hellenic constitution presented before Parliament

December 19th

The Archchancellor, Nikolaos Kokkinos II, who has convened a constitutional convention composed of the most senior members of the Hellenic government, has presented a revised constitution to the Hellenic Parliament.

The document is rather extensive and meticulous, however, a synopsis is provided below, detailing the new proposed governmental structure:

Archchancellor

The position of Archchancellor and its respective functions granted in the proposed constitution differ in that the position serves moreso as a ceremonial figure, however, the proposed constitution would recognize the Archchancellor as the official head-of-state, and will be elected every other Parliamentary session, which effectively translates to a 6-year term. The Archchancellor would be elected via popular vote.

The Archchancellor would possess the ability to veto any proposals presented by the Parliament via forwarding the proposal back to Parliament with his/her and/or revisions. Parliament will vote upon the revisions made by the Archchancellor. If the vote fails to pass, Parliament may resubmit the original, in which the Archchancellor is obligated to approve.

Parliament

The Hellenic Parliament would officially be recognized by the proposed constitution as the Parliamentum in accordance with the Roman Republic's official language for governmental affairs (Latin), however is also referred to within the Constitution as both the Hellenic Parliament and just Parliament. The Parliamentum would be composed of 350 members, referred to as *synedrus (plural: synedry, literally, 'councillor(s)' [Ancient Greek]) elected every 3 years, and headed by the Proedros.

Proedros

Unlike the existing position of Proedros, who is regarded as the leader of the Hellenic Parliament and appointed by the Archchancellor, the proposed constitution would have the position of Proedros be fulfilled by the leader of the largest political group within Parliament, and it would assume several roles formerly belonging to the Archchancellor. These roles include the ability to convene a cabinet of ministers alongside the, albeit limited, ability to veto proposals within Parliament as well as override vetoes by the Archchancellor.

If a proposal has garnered the support of 3/5 of the Parliament (210 synedry, assuming all 350 members vote), the proposal passes regardless of a veto on behalf of the Archchancellor. If both the Archchancellor and the Proedros elect to veto a propo

My plan was to buy a home in the Athenian countryside as I will try to find work in politics and that is where the parliament, Hellenic police department, the school of Athens, and more are located. Do Greeks have a problem with Athenian people specifically or is there a disdain for Athens itself? Can any natives of Greece recommend a a particular city or island that would be ideal for a single family home with land for gardening? I thank you all in advance for your help(:

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

[Event] Preparation for the Transition

Nikos Zachariadis knew that soon it was time to begin a proper transition to the next General-Secretary, as if he refused to vacate the position and died it could potentially results in a collapse of the Hellenic Peopleโ€™s Republic as despite his own efforts it had yet to fully recover from the civil war.

Plus it would aid his successorsโ€™s own legitimacy, Manolis Glezos. Manolis, while a less orthodox communist is both a folk hero of greek nationalism, a war hero for the communists and a honest reformer. An elected member to the short-lived parliament and generally beloved with the people, it is of no surprise he was chosen.

However, the issue of succession is still in the air despite his many credentials and as such, a close friend or at least partner of Glezos, Apostolos Santas would be placed in charge of the YKA.

The point being to have someone who would be loyal to Glezos and ensure the transition goes about smoothly as well as someone who could be counted on to provide reliable information and prevent a potential threat.

Finally, in a year it is planned for Nikos to announce his nomination of Manolis Glezos for party general-secretary and ensure a peaceful transition. May Greece ever be free.

The Renaissance happened for a Reason: A Condemnation of Aristocracy

(to preface this very long post, I'm not providing citaitons because I'm writing this essay while procrastinating university and therefore have no energy to review my high school history notes, but this rant is researched)

Conclusion and TLDR at the bottom

I been in this sub for a month or two, and have seen alot of comments of people saying they subscribe to an aristoratic form of monarchism - that is to say a system of monarchy where a single moanrch rules, and their rule is supported by a robust aristocracy which handles adminsitrative matters, be it in a fuedal, federal or unitary context.

Quite a few of these commentors have stated Plato's The Republic as a framework for what an aristocratic system would look like, but I counter this by saying that much like the common critique of Marxism is that Marx failed to account for human nature, Plato's accounting for human nature was rather rudimentry, and I find historical precedent to be a much better yardstick as it is driven by human nature.

For this rant I will define an aristocrat as a herediatry administrator (who may or may not own the land they administer). I define aristocracy as a system of government where hereditary administrators rule over administrative units. For example a Lord Landplace rules Landplace and when he dies his heir becomes Lord Landplace and rules Landplace, the Lord of Landplace collects taxes which is then given to the central government and the Lord of Landplace also operates the local government of Landplace (in charge of fixing potholes, listening to the greivances of the people living in Landplace etc).

I argue that is objectively a poor system, and has rightfully been buried by history. The overarching reason for this is that aristocracies over time tend lack the benefits that are provided by democracy (support of the people) or meritocracy (efficiency). A monarchy can suffer from the same issues. However, a monarchy can compensate by this by having a democracy or meritocracy overssen by it- an aristocracy cannot effectively do this.

A signifcant reason for why aristocracies and monarchies have been abolished is due to the western societal shift away from autocracy and towards democracy. In the West, all the monarchies which did not adopt democratic constitional monarhcism have been abolished and replaced with republics (excepting the ones deposed in favour of communist systems, but communism tended to have some form of local democracy or facade democracy).

EIB Holds Firm on Natural Gas Decision; Ministry of Development and Infrastructure Consulting with Hellenic Parliament

Athens, Greece โ€” After reaching out to the European Investment Bank in an attempt to receive financial support for the EastMed natural gas pipeline, the EIB is holding firm on its commitment to ending financial support for energy projects that rely on fossil fuel use. While construction was due to begin in the next couple of months, the project is now facing delays and is coming under scrutiny by the Hellenic Parliament.

The Greek government had attempted to seek sources of financial support for the project, successfully eliciting support from the governments of Cyprus and Israel so far. However, the government was hoping to receive financial support from the European Union and the EIB, where support would have made up the majority of the projectโ€™s financial backing. Being a pipeline which would supply an uninterrupted and nearly untapped supply of natural gas to the European Union, the Greek government had hoped to see support for the project, seeing as it had already been recognized as a โ€œproject of common interest,โ€ however the European Union has deferred support until debate and the passage of a EU budget. For the EIB, the Bank has held firm on ending support for fossil fuel based energy projects, severing support for potential future energy projects in Greece and elsewhere in Europe.

In Crete, union demonstrators held signs at a site where a compressor station is supposed to be built for the project. Several MPโ€™s from SYRIZA were in attendance, giving short speeches that called for the government to better support workers and opportunities for work. Workers also shouted anti-EU chants at times, and several small demonstrations in Athens and elsewhere broke out, with
