A list of puns related to "Health Belief Model"
hi i'm a first year student. i'm in my first semester. the assignment asks for including empirical research studies as evidence. can i use the health belief model as an empirical research? helpppp and thank u<333
Hi guys, as far as I know how HBM is used to explain health-related behaviors, I don't really know how it's used as an intervention for drug abuse. Like is it a preventative approach? How is it used to treat drug abuse? I tried to read some journal articles regarding it, but due to my lack of knowledge, I don't really understand what the authors are explaining. Please help me, thanks in advance!
Hello,
This is building off a previous post I made.
So, recently, for a variety of reasons I have been reading a lottttt of Steve Keen. He is very much a critic of neoclassical economics as well as other schools of economics like classical marxism, the austrian school, etc.
He is a post-keynesian
Recently I started reading his book: Debunking Economics.
His argument about the issues of aggregation with demand curves seem pretty solid.
Basically, he argues that the demand curve can be any polynomial shape, it doesn't have to be downwards sloping, and therefore the law of demand doesn't apply at the market level. Even if we assume that the supply curve is upwards sloping (which he doesn't assume), then we still have the potential for multiple points of equilibrium where none are necessarily at the social welfare maximum.
Basically, he argues that the only way you can have a downward sloping demand curve is if all Engel curves are straight lines and overlap. Which is obviously a ridiculous assumption: When i get more money my demand for goods changes. Like, once I graduate and actually make money, I imagine my demand for Ramen noodles will fall. Right now, I don't have much demand for a Ferrari, but if I were a billionaire I might.....
I haven't read his chapter on supply yet, but from elsewhere on the internet I have read that he basically argues that the supply curve is only upward sloping if we assume that the cost of production increases for every good produced. Which we cannot assume and is in fact quite opposite of the truth most of the time. He also argues that, in order for competition in the supply and demand model to work the way we think it does, then we must all have all information, and that's just not realistic. Because we'd have to know if another company far away shifted their price slightly down. And since this isn't realistic, the actual price in a local market tends to be the one where companies can make just enough profit that you don't go looking for an alternative, even if that is above the would be equilibrium price.
These seem like fairly solid criticisms and kinda undermine the whole neoclassical notion of market competition.
Is there a response to this? Do our models actually match reality?
The argument comes from here: Here's a quote from his book to see where I am getting at:
>The two conditions that economists found were necessary to guarantee the "Law of Demand" applied to the market curve were:

My father is an anti-vaxxer who thinks COVID is no worse than a bad flu and refuses to wear a mask in public. He's been butting heads with me and my siblings over the "no masks" ever since mask mandates were lightened months ago. Thing is, he's sick. And I don't know how to protect him from himself anymore.
He started feeling ill four days ago, and two days after he fell ill my brother became ill as well. My sisters and I did not realize father was sick because mother told us "oh, he's just feeling a little off today" and hid the fact he had come down with something. My brother has been quarantining, but Father has been doing things like sitting in the living room, unmasked, playing solitare, or sitting in the kitchen, unmasked, drinking tea while people are trying to cook. He tried to tell me months ago about this doctor who had figured out that nebulizing hydrogen peroxide would kill any viruses that settle in the lungs.
I ignored it at the time (it's not the first 'natural' treatment he's tried to suggest to me - the man sticks undiluted essential oils in his tea and tried to treat my depression as a teenager with homeopathy), but now that he's got potentially COVID, I've heard/seen him using the nebulizer multiple times. My sister and I went hunting for hydrogen peroxide last night, and found four bottles - which we promptly hid. Another bottle showed up this morning. That's 160 flOZ of hydrogen peroxide, and I think he has more stashed somewhere.
I'm not gonna lie, this post is partially a cry for help and partially venting. I feel like I'm going insane, watching this man who claims his top priority is his family do things that are actively harmful to us and him. He sees no reason to quarantine, no reason to mask, no reason at all to worry about infecting his family. I am the only triple vaxed person in my family, and my sister is extremely vulnerable. Additionally, his 'treatment' is actively making things worse for him, but if I was to ever say that to him he'd call me stupid and say I just don't understand the science. I feel like I'm losing my mind, and I'm terrified I'm about to watch my father walk himself into his own grave. Help?

All dermatologists Iβve spoken to claim that Food isnβt related with Seb Derm.
But i want to personally share that after confirming I have Gut Health/ Gut Leak problems using a GI Map test, Iβve gone on a diet + gut supplements which somehow seems to keep things βat bayβ. Again, Iβm not saying Iβm free from SD. Iβm just saying the recurrence of flares are less horrible (used to have endless flares even with Ketoconazole tablets).
My Diets: No Gluten: since Nov 19 (7 Weeks) No Grains: since Dec 13 (3.5 Weeks) Gut Supplements: Dec 13 (3.5 Weeks) Also no added sugar for 7 weeks.

I am not out of the dark yet but for anyone whoβs tired of using Azole tirelessly- u might want to look into your Gut Health.
I'll start with two I can recall:
On a train journey in the early 2000s, I heard an uncle describe with full confidence to my parents (both doctors) how "almost all diseases enter the body from the head and exit the body from the feet". Apparently if you have dirty or unkempt feet, the disease isn't able to leave your body, so this man would rigorously wash and clean his feet as a daily ritual. Um, okay - good for you I guess, uncle? At least he won't have smelly feet.
Someone who comes from a biology/health-affiliated educational background contributed to a discussion about public health with this brilliantly insightful nugget about an Indian childcare tradition. She said, "infant mortality in India is lower than other developing countries because of the Indian practice of applying oil on the baby's head. Bacteria sticks to the oil so it cannot enter through the eyes/nose/mouth."
I am genuinely curious as to why people support the party. Bonus question: would you ever change your party loyalty?

The idea is basically to analyze the problem of free will from the perspective of artificial intelligence and the framework of reinforcement learning. The conclusions are probably not very original, but the perspective maybe is. Have not found it anywhere else. To me it grounds the discussion about freedom in a theory of decision-making in a useful way.
Abstract: The debate on whether or not humans have free will has been raging for centuries. Although there are good arguments based on our current understanding of the laws of nature for the view that it is not possible for humans to have free will, most people believe they do. This discrepancy begs for an explanation. If we accept that we do not have free will, we are faced with two problems: (1) while freedom is a very commonly used concept that everyone intuitively understands, what are we actually referring to when we say that an action or choice is "free" or not? And, (2) why is the belief in free will so common? Where does this belief come from, and what is its purpose, if any? In this paper, we examine these questions from the perspective of reinforcement learning (RL). RL is a framework originally developed for training artificial intelligence agents. However, it can also be used as a computational model of human decision making and learning, and by doing so, we propose that the first problem can be answered by observing that people's common sense understanding of freedom is closely related to the information entropy of an RL agent's normalized action values, while the second can be explained by the necessity for agents to model themselves as if they could have taken decisions other than those they actually took, when dealing with the temporal credit assignment problem. Put simply, we suggest that by applying the RL framework as a model for human learning it becomes evident that in order for us to learn efficiently and be intelligent we need to view ourselves as if we have free will.
