Female Gladiators (gladiatrices) were a rare but very real phenomenon in the Roman Arenas! Jusepe de Ribera's painting here depicts them, as inspired by a much older relief from Halicarnassus - all credit to *The Ancients* podcast's most recent episode for reminding me of this one!

I'll be honest, I wasn't even paying attention to how many workable coast tiles there were, I just built the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus here because that's the only city I had with enough production at the time to beat other civs to it. Actually wound up being pretty useful.

Babylon+ Leonardo Da Vinci+ Mausoleum at Halicarnassus= Potentionally hilarious midgame
If you can get your hands on Leonardo Da Vinci somewhere around the medieval age/renaissance his ability will cause you to skip ahead and instantly earn a modern era technology with no other requirements. And with the Mausoleum the number of techs is increased to two. Sadly most modern units require oil, so it's not really a reliable strategy, but if you get lucky you may either hit Chemistry or Refining. One unlocks oil and allows you to build any of the lategame modern units right away. The other unlocks AT Crews, which grants you 70 strength anti-cav units in the renaissance. That is insane.
I have just steamrolled Kupe and his Melee army with a force made up of 90% anti-cavs from 400 years in the future, because Babylon doesn't fuck about.
Probably my favorite addition to the game since launch

Mausoleum at Halicarnassus every city or just the one it's in?
Is the +2 science per district in *every* city you control or just in the city of the wonder itself? I can't seem to find a clear answer. I'm asking because I'm trying to determine if taking cultural wonders is bugged so I can report it.

Does anyone know of a translation of Dionysius of Halicarnassus into Latin?
I'm teaching a unit on revolution to a high school class this year, and we're reading some Marx, some Tacitus, some H.C. Nutting, some Sozomen. I'd like to give them something on the establishment of the republic (yup, I have the Livy and the periochae), and I'm interested in Dionysius. Anyone know if a translation has been done into Latin?
