Questions on Exemplar Vengers (and Cavalry in general)
Hey Peeps!
Just played a game with a Trollbloods player in our groups battle basement. Anyways he tried out some of the Trollkin long riders, and they worked great. Put a real wrench into my Menoth Exemplars abilities, knocking a lot of them down with the slam attacks, taking away vengence from my cinerators and defensive strike from my bastions.
I loved his strategy, it was a great way to take away my menoths ability to take a punch then hit hard back. So I wanted to maybe look at some Calvary myself! So a few questions for you great people on this subreddit.
-
Any opinions on Exemplar Vengers?
-
What Menoth warcasters do you think work well with them?
-
Can all cavalry make slam attacks? Or is that particular to the Trollkin Long Riders?
Thanks in advance!

Is CA ever going to fix the issue of troops not killing routing units? My cavalry killed 8 troops over a whole minute of chasing a routing unit.
Playing 3 kingdoms. Decided to do a test. There was 109 soldiers running away in a tight formation. I sent 25 cavalry to them to chase them down. The Calvary arrive and are basically directly on top of the soldiers, running past them left and right. When they arrive, I start counting down. At one minute, I look, and there are 101 troops remaining. The entire time they just sort of... ran alongside them.
Did this test again later on, and in a minute they killed 14 troops out of 94 troops routing. Better, but over a whole minute? A cavalry unit should be able to kill the majority of the soldiers over the span of an entire minute.
I haven't tested this with any other total war game, but I know its been a massive issue for a while. I remember when this was first brought up in Empire, and people were rightfully upset at this pretty major glitch, and now its in pretty much every modern total war game and nobody seems to even care.

In spite of the lack of tutorials, I think I finally understand the relationship between Cavalries, Chariots, Charges, Collision, Impact, and "attacking". Is this correct? (also, some questions)
There's a buttload of hidden mechanics in the game that isn't elaborated on. Cav and Chariots are probably the worst offenders.
- Charging comes into place when unit runs into combat from an unspecified distance at a certain speed. However, despite the fact that your units engages the enemy in mortal kombat if you target behind them, this doesn't count as an attack and you won't charge, instead MUST right click the enemy for the charge bonus to take place.
A bit dumb, but nothing too bad...
- Charge bonus lasts anywhere from 5-10 seconds after impact. So conventional wisdom is to leave your shock cavs there a bit before cycling.
So far so good...
2.5) Chariots have garbage stats, and conventional wisdom is to have them charge right in, plow through the enemy ranks, and cycle back to charge again over and over again. How do you achieve this? Why, you double-click the back of the enemy lines of course! That very thing I said not to do in #1!
THIS is where I was stumped for the longest time. You can't get the charge bonus if you double-click behind the enemy, but you can't plow through if you just right click the enemy. So what do you do?
- For Chariots, you right click the enemies, then right as you land a hit, immediately double click behind them to issue an order to keep moving (are you kidding me?)
3.5) In #2 I stated that the Charge bonus lasts 5-10 seconds, yet you're expected to not stick around, but instead to plow right through as Chariots, foregoing the bonus duration...or do you?
- Turns out there's a hidden unstated "collision damage stat. How does it work? IDK. How strong is it? IDK. What kind of damage? IDK. But what I do know is that this collision damage is what allows chariots to do so much damage despite never actually attacking the enemy.
- There is ANOTHER hidden stat called Impact damage. If a larger unit collides with a smaller unit, it does damage and sends them flying. This is why chariots are so sexy against infantry, but so shit against anything bigger.
And there you have it! Right click the enemy, and then immediately double-click behind them. Unintuitive, tedious, and completely lacking in a tutorial. But master it and you access the most destructive unit in the game.
Anyways here are my questions...
1) Why....why why why did you design them like this? Why don't units automatica

How did progression through the ranks of infantry and cavalry happen, during the 17th-19th century? And how common was the practice of purchasing a commission in the British, French and Austrian armies?
I am curious to know how the progression through the ranks happened and how long it might take to get from a Lieutenant to a Colonel, for a infantry regiment and a cavalry squadron.
Also would all the officers be of noble birth or would i be able to raise through the ranks, if i were the son of a wealthy merchant, business owner or land owner (but not a noble). Although i imagine that if i were a non-noble, it would be easier to raise through the ranks of infantry, than does of cavalry, right?
From what i can tell, the purchasing of commissions was far a more extensive practice in the British army, then the armies of other nations.

Why is it most of the Cavalry classes have to impose a 10% penalty to Speed growth rates?
I'm sure we all know how much of a drawback that can be, especially in Maddening where Speed is much more valuable. I can understand a 10% penalty on the Armored Knight and Fortress Knight classes, but for Cavalier and Paladin? That feels overly punitive. A 5% penalty would've been as high as I'd have gone with it for Cavalry classes.
But beyond just numbers, I'd like to know IS's logic on why Cavalry classes have to suffer in the Speed department.
