I've been a furry for a while now, but there are some things I still don't understand, and the internet hasn't been very helpful. I would be really interested in a "history of furries" resource but none exist to my knowledge (please point me to such a resource if I'm wrong).
This time, my curiosity is about dance competitions. Firstly, who started the tradition of dance competitions? Why are they so widespread at furry conventions? Secondly, what makes for such a strong crossover/correlation between people who like to wear fursuits, and people who like to dance, or watch others dance to DJ music? Why does the concept of dancing excite furries so much?
Not being particularly enthused about dance competitions, I'm having trouble understanding the appeal- but I would really like to, because it's one aspect that makes me feel like an outsider among the community.
