Hi, r/goodyearwelt. First time poster. Off and on lurker. Figured I had enough wear on these to warrant a post.
I purchased these new directly from Frye's website in 2010. These are their "James Lug Wingtip", made in Mexico, model. I vaguely recall paying ~$175 with a promotional discount at the time, but don't remember exactly. Here is a link to a Nordstrom page with pictures of these exact boots brand new. I do vaguely recall them looking like the pictures on that page when I bought them.
I have worn these off and on for about 12 years. They have been resoled twice. The laces in the photos are the originals. It's hard to say exactly how many days/hours/steps/miles I have worn these, but I recall wearing them on a fairly regular basis from 2010-2014 a few times per week for work. From 2014-2016 I went through a "minimalist" phase and these were the only boots that made the cut. As a result, during this time period I wore them at least 5 days per week, 8+ hours per day, including an outside walking commute of ~4 total miles per day all year long (plenty of slushy snow/ice/salt, mud, rain, etc.). In recent years I have not worn them as much (especially since early 2020 lock-downs/remote work), perhaps 1-2 times per week on the weekends.
This will probably sound like a marketing sound bite, but I really have worn these in a lot of different scenarios/environments throughout the last 12 years - dressed up/polished with suits, to work in a business casual office, more casually with jeans and chinos, and even some light trail hiking and travel. With that said, I would not wear these for any significant hiking distance or off-trail excursions; I have a pair of synthetic hiking boots from Salomon that are superior for those conditions in nearly every way short of maybe aesthetics.
After some time initially, the leather insoles had molded to my feet and they felt good. A few years after that the insoles didn't feel as comfortable anymore so I started wearing the boots with very thin gel insoles, specifically, these. I

itβs also being put on by live nation which is one of the biggest if not the biggest concert/festivals companies in the world. fyre fest (to my knowledge) was put on by people who had never put on a festival before.
i guess iβm just confused why everything is being compared to this so much. i was just really excited for this festival and got my hotel package and everything!!! sad to see some negativity regarding the festival in general. it wonβt stop me though!!
