A list of puns related to "Fraternities And Sororities In North America"
Iβm from the UK where we donβt really have Greek Life (to my knowledge, anyway) so all of my knowledge about them comes from films, which donβt really give much information beyond that theyβre groups of people of the same gender that all live together in a big house on campus and occasionally play beer pong (and, if films are to be believed, that sorority sisters are all blonde pink-wearing mean girl cheerleaders and βfrat brosβ are all dumb jocks who exclusively wear letterman jackets...obviously, those are stereotypes, but you get the idea of how limited my knowledge/understanding is.) Sooo, more information needed: what do sororities/fraternities actually DO? Is it literally just a social thing and an excuse to live together and party, or are they expected to do things like organise charity/sport events or whatever? Iβve always just kind of wondered what American Greek Life is actually like lol.
I'm aware there are Canadian and German organizations too, but they are overwhelmingly American.
I'm from the EU and have no idea what the actual point of them are, despite Googling it.
Only things I really heard about them are that they partied during the early days of the pandemic, which was a big no-no.
Hello I am conducing a survey for class on hazing in fraternities and sororities. If anyone is interested in taking it it would be much appreciated. It will be 100% anonymous. Thank you! https://utk.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6y7mHq056jDdPDM
Seems like few sorority hazing cases make it to news headlines compared to fraternities?
One thing Iβve always wondered is the lack of references to college fraternities and sororities as secret societies in-game. Theyβre pretty central to the modern american and canadian conceptions of secret societies, so Iβm curious that they were never included for the ATEFF update for Monks and Mystics.
Moving forward, how could they be implemented in-game for ATEFF2?
If an investigation is ongoing, why rule a punishment?
My son is really into Monsters University at the moment but one thing I just don't get as a Brit, what is a fraternity / sorority? What do they do? Who owns the houses they have parties in? Why are they Greek? Is everyone in one?
When in college I considered joining a frat but after spending time with a number of people from different frats and looking in to what being part of one means and costs I decided against it. Ten years later none of my friends that joined frats can tell me one benefit they have had from it since leaving college. At this point I'm pretty willing to say that Greek life nowadays is just a scam being used to pilfer more money out of already broke college students in exchange for a group of temporary friends and not much more.
Anyone have stories about the influences of these organizations on your students' performance? Until the last few years I'd only had negative impressions on their impact. I had one person fail one of only two tests given in an upper-level major class because her sorority sisters were pressuring her to bake cookies instead of study and I've had countless guys completely wasting their time and their parents money because they get do wrapped up in their organization and skip studying. I even had one student tell me his fraternity activity was much more important than showing up to my class and was p*ssed when I wouldn't reteach the material in a private session. Recently the Sigma Nus at our school have renewed my faith in the positive influence a fraternity can have, so good for them! I'm just wondering if anyone else has run into major good or bad stand-out stories.
Seriously, what are they good for? Girls get raped? Guys overdosing on alcohol and dying? People getting STD's?
