Are the "fidalgo de província" equivalent or similar to the British gentry? As I understand (poorly, so far) they were not an official part of the Portuguese nobility, but enjoyed some of their privileges. SO, kinda like the gentry. I'm looking for a detailed answer but cannot find anything useful on Google. Hopefully one of you cool Portuguese people can help.
