Finally got my first nuke ever - extemporaneous thought dump

I know it's not exactly the most difficult challenge in gaming, but after 11 years I finally got my very first one. Funny enough I've been able to get several moabs on MW3 but for some reason I could just never quite seal the deal with the nuke - not in 2009, nor any of the times I had returned as a better player.

I had been right there on the edge so many times, I already knew exactly how what it was going to feel like to finally get one: heart pounding, hands trembling, lost count of kills in the chopper but I know I must be close; playing slow and cautious for the match trying not to fuck up, aim getting sloppier with every kill; basically it'll be exactly what it's like to get close, with the only key difference being that final enemy blunders a gunfight, and I finally get to see the icon pop up on my screen and call it in with shaky, sweaty hands. The scenario had run through my head so many times it was practically already reality.

However, the actual experience was nothing like that at all. After all that hunting for that golden match on Wasteland with the ACR and the lag on my side, the match I ultimately ended up getting the nuke on an arbitrary Sub Base game with someone's gun I picked up to recklessly play with until I got myself killed. Called in the Chopper Gunner carelessly in the middle of the map where anyone could have plinked me, and after a short spray-down I heard a beep and there it was on my D-pad. No tension, no shaky hands; wasn't even counting my kills. A decade-long struggle for this thing and in the end I wasn't even really paying attention when I got it. I got out of the Chopper, took one step forward and immediately got dusted by someone running through, but it was already over.

As I've grown as a gamer, the MW2 nuke has always been sort of like a lingering ghost with unfinished business to me. I remember being 12 and all my friends would practically hunt nukes for breakfast and all I wanted was to just earn one, just to be a part of the club. I've heard so many stories of how people's first MW2 nuke was one of the most memorable moments of their whole gaming career and despite having outgrown the challenge with my numerous moabs, I was still unsatisfied with never having officially completed this particular rite of passage myself. But after far too long, I've finally got it. Now my 12-year-old self can finally rest in peace. And hopefully now that I've gotten one, I'll be able to get them much more easily without ge

Public Extemporaneous Prayer

Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask this community a question regarding public extemporaneous prayer. I grew up in mostly evangelical churches in the U.S. I currently attend a smaller Baptist church of around 100 people. As my faith has continued to develop and grow, I have found a couple of issues with public extemporaneous prayer. I think this probably started after I began to use a Daily Office app. Previously I had never prayed any pre-written prayers and I would only pray extemporaneously. Growing up in an evangelical background, I was taught to pray to God as if He was my best friend. While I wouldn’t say these kinds of extemporaneous prayers are bad, I have found praying pre-written prayers to be very beneficial to my faith. I think avoiding pre-written prayers, at least for me personally, would hinder my ability to grow in my faith.

It was not until I started to attend this smaller baptist church where I have been asked to pray extemporaneous prayers. Most of the people there are able to pray long and wordy prayers that I don’t know if I could ever come up with. And I’m not sure if that is ever a goal of mine. While their prayers are long and wordy, they are often repetitive and not very meaningful, at least to me personally. I think those prayers provide great value for other congregants, but for myself, I think more structured pre-written prayers are what I find more helpful to my faith.

When it comes to public extemporaneous prayer, I can never seem to find the words to say. I can’t develop long, wordy prayers that I feel like the church would expect. I view public extemporaneous prayer similar to giving a extemporaneous speech. I have always been one to have to prepare for speeches ahead of time, so when asked to say a public prayer, I have almost no idea what to say. When asking others about extemporaneous prayer, I have been told time and time to again to just pray to God like how I normally do in my private time, and to not care about what others may think about what I say. The issue I have with this is that my private time is very personal, and I just can’t pray the same way I do in private in public. I am not sure either if my private prayers would be very beneficial to the congregation, as I often take time to pause and reflect on things and just pause because I don’t know what to pray next and have a wait a bit.

I have only attended evangelical churches in my life, but would like to attend an Anglican or Episcopalian church to see how th

Extemporaneous speaking exercises in class

We're planning on going back fully in person this fall, which means I get to revisit some of my fave in-class activities and hopefully incorporate some news ones.

I would love any ideas that have worked for you related to extemporaneous speaking. I teach an intro level public speaking class, so students have a variety of background in terms of public speaking. But I'm really looking for help in getting them to that sweet spot between manuscript and memorization.

It makes sense to them in class (I use my teaching as an example - all the key concepts are there in the same order, though it's never going to be the exact same lecture for each class; I can adjust based on nonverbal feedback and still keep the same purpose of the presentation). But there's a lot more overrealiance on notes.

Is there an activity you've done that works well for helping students use notes more effectively in their presentations?

Playing Card Money -- an extemporaneous monetary system in 17th century Quebec

One of the interesting things about gold bugs who denounce "fiat money" is how necessary and how frequently it is invented and reinvented. Here the newly described story of what French settlers did when they had no cash from France

>New France, like most European colonies in the New World, suffered from a persistent shortage of metal coins. As Quebec could only legally import from France, their standards of living were constrained by their ability to export a few primary products (mostly fur, cod, timber and wheat). Mercantilist restrictions and underdeveloped financial markets limited the ability to use the capital account to import coins and tightened the balance of payments constraint. The introduction of playing card money in New France in 1685, the first use of paper money in the West, provided a means of relaxing this constraint. It produced a substitute domestic money which allowed scarce metal coins to be used to purchase imports. The balance-of-payments constrained growth models that grew out of Thirlwall’s Law is applied to this experience, with discussions of the export constraints of Quebec’s reliance on a few primary exports (with furs being the most dominant one) with inelastic demand and facing the vagaries of changing tastes in Europe.

Extemporaneous Speaking in Public / speaking as thinking / no room for thinking ahead / tangents

I've been diagnosed with Adult ADHD for about three years now. I've never been able to memorize any passage of text or a speech. I'm a published poet and have no capacity of memorizing my own poems. It feels like there isn't a place in my brain to hold language still, in place, and retrieve it -- but it also feels like there is nowhere in my brain to organize what I'm going to say next, especially when under any sort of pressure. When speaking in class in grad school, I would know what point I wanted to make, but as soon as I opened my mouth I would be searching for the right word, talking too slowly for people's liking, and find myself on tangents that had to eventually circle back to the point I was simply going to make in the first place. When I'm talking in such a situation, it feels like there is absolutely no difference between the ongoing act of thinking and what is coming out of my mouth - whereas peers in my grad program could speak clearly, articulately, in almost full paragraphs. Usually, a professor would get so frustrated with me that they would cut me off before I even was able to reach my point. The other students would roll their eyes if I raised my hand with an urgent point to make. They talked differently as if they were reading from something written down. I was very recently talking to an actor recently about our relationships to language --- I was puzzled by his ability to be able to recall lines and speak them for the duration, say, of an entire Shakespeare play. I can't even imagine not taking ten minutes to respond with talk/think/tangent if simply asked to say my own name. I'm wondering if I'm the only person who has this problem or any similar to it -- I'm not sure I want to "fix" it either -- what I have to say is, damn it, more original and astute than the rote stuff my grad student peers say aloud. I want to own my speech, even if it isn't typical.

How do you end an extemporaneous prayer?

I know Protestants end their prayers with something similar to β€œin Jesus’ name we pray, amen” or some variant. Catholics, in my experience, end it with something like, β€œwe ask this through your son Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever, amen.” When Orthodox end their personal prayers how would they typically end it... just β€œAmen”?

What are Orthodox views on extemporaneous prayer?

Hi everyone, I've been wondering about this for a while now and was hoping to hear from some other's perspectives.

For context, I am of Protestant background (initially Methodist, more recently evangelical non-denominational) . My girlfriend is Orthodox and was raised that way, and as we have developed a serious relationship, I have been inquiring into the Orthodox Church and attending services since around the beginning of this year.

My question is about the use of extemporaneous/freeform/non-liturgical/non-written prayer (I don't know of an exact terminology) among Orthodox Christians. From my background, this type of prayer is certainly the most predominant form. In my experience, the general structure is something along the lines of 1) Dear Father (or Dear God).... 2) Stating concerns/requests/things we are thankful for/etc. 3) ... in Jesus' name, Amen. In my admittedly limited experience of Orthodoxy, I have not really seen much of this type of prayer.

I want to be clear that I have no issues with reading prayers that have been previously written. They can be incredibly powerful and poignant. The services of the Church are filled with these types of prayers, and I find them incredibly moving and timeless. I am wondering about utilizing freeform prayer alongside that.

During a recent conversation with my girlfriend about building our faith based practices as a couple outside of church, we were talking about incorporating more dedicated time for prayer together. We typically pray before meals with the Lord's prayer, or on occasion, she will offer another Orthodox written prayer. It was interesting to me when my girlfriend mentioned that she basically had no experience with the kind of prayer that I mentioned above. I guess my personal perspective was that when I am "praying for someone" it means that I'm bringing them up and their specific situation to God directly, which seems like it would be hard to do from something pre-written. (Again, not saying any other way is wrong...just speaking from my own experience!)

TL;DR - If I had to summarize my questions: Is extemporaneous prayer something that is commonly used by Orthodox Christians? If not common, is it at least something seen as acceptable? Is there any advice in regards to this type of prayer you would offer from an Orthodox perspective? Thanks!

Can anyone please help with understanding what 'Manual' mode means and doesn't mean when attempting to control where new torrents being added will be begin downloading, and a couple other extemporaneous questions thrown in as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First. on a macbook 2012 using catalina, running qbittorrent version 4.1.7 64bit

  1. So I have qbittorrent set to manual mode for downloads. I have files being downloaded now, being added to the default directories folder on my HD. All is well. Now I'm needing to add a couple torrents (200gb or so each) to qbittorrent, but if I add them to my current default download location they won't fit. I have that setting cheked that bring up the the download dialogue box (or whatever it's called) each time I start to download a new torrent, allowing me to make sure it's the right file and such before officially adding it to qbittorrent for downloading. One of the options in this dialogue box when adding a torrent is to change where it will be downloaded to. So I figure this is my answer. But when I point qbittorrent to download the file to the new location, it doesn't do it. It starts the download in the same location as the others which is too full for the new file. Is this just a setting they've added as a tease, or a go fuck yourself goof that they can think about whenever they need a pick me up? I refuse to believe that, so my question then becomes 'are there other settings that might affect the function of this feature that I'm not aware of. I mean, even if i was running in automatic download mode, the dialogue box allows for me to change it to manual (which I believe relates to just that new torrent I'm adding, but even if I believe wrong, it doesn't seem to matter anyway cause it doesn't actually put the file, or the others if it were an app wide setting, anywhere but where they are already going to in the default directory). So there's that question.
  2. Another question I have relates to my attempt at a work around for this issue that I haven't been willing to try until I get more info on what will happen if I do it. So my thought is to change the location of the default directory thus allowing me to add the new files to the new location by default. My reservation is that if I do this it may end up screwing up all the currently downloading files. I know there are two options available when changing the default directory, and I'm fairly sure that the first one 're-locate affected torrents' is not what I want to chose. This leads me to believe that in addition to what I would think this function does, namely create a new default download location for new torrents to be downloaded to, it would also move the currently downloading files there as well. This is fur

Occultist - Extemporaneous Channeler Questions

Normally an Occultist would invest their Mental Focus (MF) into their implements at the start of the day, and then spend MF on the various resonant and focus powers.

An Extemporaneous Channeler (EC) does not do so, they retain them as Generic Focus (GF) and can use a round to invest into their implements.

I'm trying to figure out what my plan of attack would be during a combat encounter, as unlike normal archetypes it doesn't seem to be friendly with resonant powers that cost more than 1 or 2.

Example lvl 3 EC with 20 Int - Level + 2xInt mod = 3 + 10 = 13 Mental Focus

Transmutation, Abjuration, Illusion with Sudden Speed and Energy Shield Focus powers

I have questions:

Question #1 - For Transmutation and Abjuration resonant powers, can you invest the MF earlier in the day and then let it drain out, but still get the benefit? i.e. Physical Enhancement

Fleeting Focus (Su)

"At any point during the day, she can shift any amount of her generic focus to any number of her implements by concentrating for 1 round while touching her implements "

Question #2 - Does this mean they can use 1 total round to invest as much MF into as many implements as they want? i.e. Before a fight I want to buff with Mind Barrier and cast Minor figment (no other good standard action at this point).

Round 1 - Invest implements, know I need 2 MF for swift action Mind barrier and 2 MF for minor figment. I invest 2 MF into abjuration and 2 MF into illusion in the same round. Yes? If I want the Transmutaion and abjuration resonent powers I would now need to re-activate both implements with 1 more MF each? <--- Question 3

Question #4 - does it still cost me 2x the amount to invest after the initial preparation?

Round 2 - Swift Action - Use Energy Shield to get 15 energy protection for 1 minute

Round 2 - Standard, I change my mind and choose not to cast Minor Figment as it is limited use.

Round 3 Standard - Trigger Legacy Weapon for 1 or 2 MF to give the weapon +1 for 10 min

Round 3 - Swift - Trigger Transformative Resonance with 1 Generic Focus to get Bane vs an enemy type for 1 min (already +1 from Legacy) (need to hold 3 in body)

Questions 5+

So what have I spent at this point to buff?

Possible benefits:

+2 Strength - Physical enhancement - Transmutation Needs 3 invested to trigger - Costs 3 or 4 MF? 6 or 7 MF?

+1 Resistance to saves - Warding Talisman - Abjuration - needs 2 invested to trigger - Costs 2 or 3 MF? 4 or 5 MF?

Energy Shield for 9 more ro

Extemporaneous social experiment

So I was on this server and there was one kid who was most likely using ESP, speed hacks, and possibly aimbot, people on both teams were arguing both sides with him, and three votekicks were initiated, all of which failed at about 4/8. The next game our server grew, and they still kept fighting, so I decided to try and votekick myself. I likely had a .7-.8 KDR and 5-7 kills, so I wasn't doing too well, but after initiating the votekick I got kicked in about 30 seconds.

Is total war the default state of warfare? Can extemporaneous pillaging and looting be classified as a component of the war, or are they simply byproduct atrocities?

The idea of "total war" is a fairly new concept, but primitive war seems to include almost as an afterthought the plunder of enemy property and the rape of enemy women. In older wars this was considered normal and even in unregulated modern day conflicts this is common. It seems that without specific rules, humans naturally wage total war, assaulting not only the enemy military but also his economy and civilian population

Is there a distinct line where common criminal activity changes into a legitimate strategy of war?
