My skin has taken a while to heal. Despite how smooth it has become is still plenty reddened and scarred. My face is riddled with penty of blemishes and I've been eating mostly beef the entire year and strict carnivore for the past 5 months. However, up until recently I had been restricting calories and forcing myself to fast in an attempt to lose weight. None of that had worked and now I'm eating whenever I'm hungry to satiety. And I can eat a lot now, I had 4 pounds of chuck roasts for breakfast this morning and I'm still hungry. Many people transitioning to carnivore for the first time find themselves ravenous as their body attempts to compensate for malnutrition caused by their previous diet. It seems to me like I'm in a similar situation 5 months after starting this woe. Because I'm finally listening to my body and allowing myself to eat as much as I need, couldn't this speed up my skin's ability to heal itself? Perhaps the reason my skin has made less progress than I had anticipated was because of all the caloric restriction? Or maybe it doesn't matter and I just had unrealistic expectations on how long it'd take for my skin to heal fully.
Few things in life are more exciting, energizing and passionate than the early stages of a new relationship. As part of the r/gainit programming party, I've completed BBB Beefcake (I'm a little ahead of schedule) and wanted to share my write-up. As usual, this is going to be a long one.
INTRO
As COVID continues to be a thing and the possibility of strongman competitions still being far out of reach, I decided to join the programming party over at r/gainit on reddit wherein they were undertaking my 26 week mass building programming block composed of BBB Beefcake, 5/3/1 Building the Monolith, Deep Water Beginner and Deep Water Intermediate. Undertaking this has boded well with me psychologically, as itβs rather uncharacteristic of me to ever suggest a program/approach I havenβt personally employed, so now was my chance to βput my money where my mouth wasβ. In addition, I had just come off my most successful fat loss block ever, and was in a prime position to do some growing.
EXECUTION
I wanted to give this program a fair shake, so I did everything Jim said to do. I did the exact assistance work directed, used the percentages prescribed, kept my supplemental work to within 20 minutes, etc. β¦however, I ALSO went well above and beyond that, with LOTS of extra assistance work and a LOT of conditioning. I was running 2 and 3 a days for training, and frequently ran all 4 days back to back. Itβs what my schedule could support, and, in turn, drove me to eat a ton, which was one of my goals. It all worked out in the end though, as I only ended up missing 1 single rep from the program, and it was on 5s pro mainwork on the press, primarily as a result of a technical issue. Iβll detail specific deviations below.
ADJUSTMENTS AND MODIFICATIONS
I ran the program 3/5/1 vs 5/3/1, which I imagine is more how Jim would have wanted it anyway. For βhardβ 5/3/1 programs, 3/5/1 works really well. The 5s week functions like a mini-deload.
On the deadlift day, I rotated between 3 different implements depending on the week. On the 5s week, Iβd use an axle. On the 3s week, Iβd use a Texas Power Bar. On the 1s week, Iβd use a Texas Deadlift Bar. I really liked how this worked out, because the implements get easier to pull on as the percentages go up, which gave each week its own unique challenge. An axle is incredibly stiff and puts the weight slightly out in front of you at a slight deficit, whereas a power bar is stiffer than a deadlift bar. This helped me maintain the βoh sh*tβ factor of gaining programs, where youβre afraid

Low carb diets are good, but mostly not for their thermogenic effects which are very small. For example, there is a fair amount of literature on their benefits to satiety which leads to EATING FEWER CALORIES.

Keep in mind, my son is 4 years old, so everything is an original to him.
I had to work late into the evening yesterday, and he was just going to bed when I got home. I had left home for the office nearly 14 hours prior, had a long day, lots of meetings, traffic, etc.
When I walked through the door, I was exhausted, run down, and starving. My wife hugged me and asked how my day was, and I replied, "Done. It was a good day, but has got me exhausted. I just want to grab a bite and go to bed. I'm hungry."
From my son's bedroom, I hear him shout, "Hi Hungry! Nice to meet you!"
Not only did it make me laugh, but I completely forgot about how hungry and tired I was. I went to his bedroom, and we laughed together about it. It was exactly what I needed.

First things first: stats (pounds). TL;DR - excellent program, great intro to RPE training. Added 100lbs to my S/B/D/OHP while maintaining weight and making modest physique gains.

My Deadlift e1RM peaked at 396 one week in the middle of the program. I think this was due to aggressive RPE gauging coupled with just a really good day in the gym.
Goal:
I wanted to complete this program to increase my overall strength in the big 4 lifts: Squat, Bench, Deadlift, OHP. I wanted to preferentially increase my bench, as I think my press is pretty strong already.
Training History:
Iβve been training with barbells off and on for about a decade with varying levels of success and consistency. Most of my training history has been 5x5, 5/3/1, Phraks Greyskull, and similar programs. My lack of consistency stems primarily from program hopping and chasing multiple goals at once. I also found out during the pandemic that I have a chronic autoimmune disease which causes me a lot of fatigue and other problems. Having treatment for this has allowed me to be extremely consistent with my training, and the results show it.
Program & Results:
I found BBM by way of Alan Thrall. I think most folks here are familiar with them, so I wonβt go into detail here. The Bridge 1.0 is designed as a free post Starting Strength Novice Linear Progression program. Itβs an introduction to autoregulated, RPE-based training. It took a little calibration, but I feel a lot more comfortable rating my effort level now than I did at the beginning of the program, which obviously comes with practice.
The program is straightforward: 3 lifts a day, 3 days a week and 1-2 GPP days. I usually lifted Monday/Wednesday/Friday. You can read the full details on the BBM website.
I completed all prescribed strength sessions in the program, but I missed quite a few GPP sessions. I do think completing the GPP sessions would have resulted in squeezing a little more out of the program. I also switched from high bar to low bar squatting, so that may skew my squat results a bit.
The workouts can be a bit long, but by staying focused
