A list of puns related to "Euonymus"
Does anyone have any plans experience growing Euonymus atropurpureus from seed? Iβve seen tips saying 60 days warm stratification followed by 60 cold. The warm one is throwing me. Wouldnβt a cold stratification suffice? Thanks!
My home was built 30 years ago and the original owners, after putting an onion on their belt (it was the style at the time) planted Winged Euonymus (Euonymus alatus) trees along the driveway. The driveway is cut through recovering Connecticut woodlands and had almost certainly been cleared in the 18th century, but is now a dense woodland and adjacent to wetland.
The plants formed beautiful attractive trees but have now formed thickets. I've been removing the euronymous around the property once I discvered that it was not infact a "winged elm" but an invasive japanese invader.
This year I am removing the thicket by rote bushwhacking, and will remove the large original trees either this year or next.
What i'm looking for is replacement. I'm on a driveway with forest on all sides, so it gets enough sun for the Euonymus to grow 10 feet tall but its going to be tricky to put something over it. Do you think Cranberry Highbush will take in such a wooded area? should i just let oak or beech grow in? suggestions welcome
cheers and thanks to all the battlers of invasives
I picked up a chollipo euonymus because it looked nice but turns out itβs a 12β tall, 6β wide monster of a shrub. Can I keep it small-ish indoors in a pot?
I have several decade old Euonymus Alatus around the property. Curious how it might differ in extraction and if I need to cut any specific time of year like when they turn red.
Update: this was confirmed to be the leaf notcher by Virginia Techβs Insect ID.
We found this caterpillar yesterday and believe it is the euonymus leaf notcher. Weβre located in Virginia and the limited info we found online says itβs an invasive species. We emailed the only info we found, at Virginia Tech, To find out if thereβs anything special we should do to eradicate them from our yard.
Edit: educated myself and found there are many many native species of euonymus in the US, tho still not clear if theyβre affected.
Does anyone have info on what kind of threat this caterpillar is? From what Iβm reading, itβs only host is exotic privets, like Euonymus japonicus. Does that mean its not a threat to our native species, maybe even helps them out by getting rid of some of the exotics?
