A list of puns related to "English Trusts Law"
As far as I can tell this question hasn't been raised in court, no doubt partly because it's both niche and uncertain, but I find it very interesting!
For anyone interested, iirc observant Jews may not own, eat or benefit from grain-related food and drink ('chametz') during the week of Passover. In order to avoid mass waste, many Jews sell their chametz to a non-Jew. This typically involves a contract that emphasises that upon sale the chametz is literally the non-Jew's property, which the non-Jew may dispose of as they please. Nonetheless there is a tacit understanding between the two parties that after passover the Jew will be able to buy the chametz back and that they will do so.
On the one hand it's an express transfer of absolute ownership, but on the other hand it whiffs of an implied trust.
Problem scenario: Jew sells Β£2,000 whiskey collection to non-Jew before passover. Non-Jew disposes of said collection by consuming it all with friends. Non-Jew is therefore unable to sell the collection back when, after passover, Jew comes calling. Would the court enforce a trust, such that the Jew is owed damages a remedy? Or would it uphold the contract to the letter and make no order?
Downvotes for anyone who just says 'it depends' lol. How might a court approach it?
If there's any precedent I'd be very interested to read about it.
EDIT: minor changes for clarity/accuracy
Husband (30M, referred to as K), my in-laws (60F, 66M), SIL (referred to as C) and younger SIL (23F, referred to as S) went to lunch. C tested positive a day later and I tested positive a few days later, everyone else was fine. FIL and MIL immediately pretended they could not figure out who gave it to me and C pretended the same. K said no way in hell then, accepted it in a few days to me and to multiple family members (except C and parents). I refused to spend Christmas with in-laws (my family lives in a different country) and didnβt want to meet them for a few weeks.
My condition for future meetings was that I no longer trust C to care about my health and I need her to get tested before hanging out. K asked if C could come hang out for an evening since she is planning to leave the country for a new job. C refused to get a free test available anywhere in the city since she doesnβt want to wait in line. K said he doesnβt want to lose out on relationship with C (they used to be very low contact years ago, recently (~5 years) repaired relationship) and asked if she could come take our expensive and hard to find home tests instead. I said no, huge fight, she came over without taking outside or home test. I swallowed my anger and pride for the evening and hung out.
My resentment is still there. I had previously wanted us to start trying to get pregnant this year but I no longer feel like I trust him to prioritize me and I want to tell C how I feel. I donβt want to hang out with her once we start trying without knowing that she cares about someone besides herself. I also donβt want to tell her/family in general that weβre trying and get a million questions constantly.
How do I do this? I tested positive before Christmas and weβve already had her over once. I only text her in family group chats and congratulated her on her new job. K says he supports me standing up for myself but will not do it for me.
Just wanted to make a short list of everything I've manifested this past week to encourage everyone to persist in their state with brazen impudence.
Here is what I did
Have fun manifesting, all you master manifestors!
Hey all,
My wife and I had a kiddo back in July and want to have a trust to ensure that if we both get killed in a horrible spaghetti-based accident he's taken care of. We've contacted one law firm that MMSD contracts with and talked to one of their lawyers who quoted a ~3700$ cost for a trust. The phone interview was really quick, so I'm not 100% on all the details of what that comprises, but mostly I wanted to make sure that that was a reasonable price, as I really have no idea.
We own a house, cars, have investments and pensions as public employees, but nothing fantastically complicated so I'd assume our trust would be similar to most other middle class families. Anyone have experience with local family law firms, and especially with drafting a trust? Thanks!
Iβm just looking for a reliable world news website with framing that isnβt pro-Western. Itβs very hard to interpret events which arenβt happening in the US from US-based news websites that report on world news.
There's an absolute ton of bipartisan antitrust bills currently floating around since certain Senators apparently don't know what the word "omnibus" means, so I thought it'd be useful to give a quick summary of some of the larger ones which have been introduced this year.
These are not intensive summaries nor do they cover all of the bills currently in Congress because there really are quite a few of them, but hopefully it'll be useful for reference.
#American Choice and Innovation Online Act
Currently sponsored by Sens. Josh Hawley [R-MO], Steve Daines [R-MT], Cynthia Lummis [R-WY], John Kennedy [R-LA], Lindsay Graham [R-SC], Chuck Grassley [R-IA], Amy Klobuchar [D-MN], Richard Durbin [D-IL], Richard Blumenthal [D-CT], Cory Booker [D-NJ], Mazie Hirono [D-HI], Mark Warner [D-VA]
You'll notice that a number of these co-sponsors are from the farthest right-wing of the GOP, including 3 Senators (Hawley, Lummis, and Kennedy) who refused to certify the 2020 election.
Prohibits large platforms from engaging in conduct that advantages their own products or services, disadvantages other business users, or discriminates among similarly situated business users.
Also bans platforms from biasing their results in favor of other companies' products as part of a corporate deal or promotion.
Basically throws out previous regulations and instead treats platforms like Amazon and Google similar to Railroad Operators, forcing them to treat everyone who uses their platform equally.
Would also effectively mandate that sideloading be allowed on smartphones, which has led Apple to come out very strongly against this bill
Sideloading is the act of downloading third-party app binaries from sources other than the official App Store and installing them on the phone.
Apple does not currently allow sideloading, and says that it would serve as a major security risk if it were mandated. Proponents of the bill argue that Android has allowed sideloading for years with few issues.

The controversy involving Lesser Lord Kusanali come as somewhat of a surprise to me. The English translation for this game has always been filled with mistranslations, and it's shocking to see people put this much faith in this translation. The joke that you need to know Chinese to understand the game's lore isn't made for no reason.
So, just to show people that this is really nothing new, here's a list, to the best of my memory, of every mistranslation and inconsistency I've personally seen:
Archaic Petra's set effect, later corrected
One of Childe's lines during Liyue's Archon Quest
Zhongli being called the God of War. Later corrected to 'God of Martial Arts'
Kazuha's A4. Later corrected. Kazuha's entire existence is a reference to Japanese poetry, and much of the nuance regarding the names of his skills has been lost in translation. However, I'm gonna go easy on the EN translation for this one because a better translation team would've struggled, too.
Decarabian being referred to as an Archon, even though he conceivably could not have been. This has never been corrected.
The Watatsumi Omikami being referred to as Orobaxi or Orobashi inconsistently.
Gold's pronouns being changed from 'he' to 'they' after the release of Chalk Prince and the Dragon. This one is especially noteworthy due to its similarities to the Kusanali situation.
This entire twitter account. The fact someone made this is alarming to begin with. I'd like to single out the extremely inconsistent translations of 倩η as being of greater concern to anyone who cares about the lore.

Pretty self explanatory.. the book is just a bunch of lessons to get the upper hand and assume everyone is not trustworthy, has a personal agenda, ways to use their naivety or mistrust, pretend to be something you arenβt to fool someone or means to an end to get ahead of them to prosper. Yet highly praised as a must read. If two people are secretly using this book and using its tactics to get ahead, itβs a recipe for war.

Another week, more drama for Boris Johnson.
On top of partygate, the prime minister now faces accusations of Islamophobia and blackmail within his ranks.
In Parliament, we could see Tories express their discontent by voting against the government.
But that's assuming the agenda will stay as it is.
Once Sue Gray's report drops, we could see lots of rejigging to account for lengthy debates on its findings.
The plan as it stands is to press on with the government's agenda.
We see a new bill introduced this week tackling privacy concerns over smart devices like TVs and speakers.
Leasehold Reform (Ground Rent) Bill - report stage and 3rd reading
Begins widescale reform of the leasehold system. Restricts ground rent on new leaseholds to a nominal ("peppercorn") amount. Started in the Lords.
Consumer Protection (Double Charging) Bill
Aims to protect customers from being charged twice for the same good or service. Ten minute rule motion presented by Huw Merriman.
Judicial Review and Courts Bill - report stage and 3rd reading
Reforms judicial review (where judges decide whether an action taken by a public body was lawful) and other bits of the legal system. Among other things, it introduces an online-only conviction procedure for defendants pleading guilty so they don't have to go through a court.
Spiking (Offence) Bill
Makes spiking a criminal offence (defined as administering or attempting to administer drugs or alcohol to a person without their consent). Ten minute rule motion presented by Richard Graham.
Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Bill - 2nd reading
Introduces regulation to make smart devices (like smart TVs and speakers) more secure against cyber attacks. Aims to speed up the rollout of mobile, full-fibre and gigabit-capable networks across the UK.
No votesΒ scheduled
Cultural Objects (Protection from Seizure) Bill - 2nd reading
Currently, foreign cultural objects on loan to UK museums are protected from seizure or forfeiture for 12 months. This bill would allow that to be extended by a further three m
I recently read the book World Without End, by Ken Follett, a historical fiction book set in 14th century England. A large part of the story deals with the arrival of the Black Death and the labor shortage that follows. After the pandemic sweeps across the country killing thousands, peasants realize that they can move to the counties worst affected and demand a higher pay for their labor.
This of course angered the ruling elite, and a law is quickly passed. The Ordinance of Labourers 1349 existed solely for the benefit of the rich and powerful, and functioned to deprive the common people of any way to advance themselves. Some of the laws included in the ordinance are as follows:
β’ Everyone under 60 must work.
β’ Employers must not pay wages higher than pre-plague levels.
β’ Workers could not receive wages higher than pre-plague levels.
β’ Tradesmen could not raise prices in excess to make profit.
β’ Employers could not hire excess workers.
β’ It became illegal to help able-bodied beggars.
When the βfree marketβ dictated better living conditions for the masses, the people in power simply made it illegal for them to make more money. This Wisconsin ruling to stop health care workers from accepting better pay at a different job is very similar, in my mind at least. It makes me wonder how far away we are from the ruling elite reviving some of the other laws in the ordinance to create a more dependent and subservient working class.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordinance_of_Labourers_1349
I have gotten two messages now, one email, one text, from a job interested in interviewing me. While the pay is incredible, and the job is remote, the English and grammar of both messages is very poor. This makes me nervous as it makes my gut tell me itβs a scam.
What should I do? Should I move forward with the interview?
When I googled the number it came up as a different name as what was signed on the text, and the email didnβt have any logo or signature beyond the recruiters name.
Am I just being prejudiced?
Edit: Thanks for the advice folks. I think Iβm gonna let this one pass me by. Too many red flags for my liking.
Hi my Aunty R suffered from Parkinsons disease, and died without leaving a will last year. She was unmarried and without any children; both her parents have passed away decades ago as well. There are 8 siblings who are beneficiaries in this case.
In 2013 as her illness got worse, she transferred most of her liquid assets into a joint account with her youngest sibling A totaling over Β£1.5 million. All the money in the joint account was solely contributed by Aunty R(the deceased). It was an account of convenience where Uncle A would help her to pay her bills and other living & medical expenses from the joint account. This account was made known to all the other siblings. As her conditioned worsened, Uncle A transferred the monies from the joint account into his personal account before she died and presumably without her knowledge.
After Aunty R died, Uncle A applied for letters of administration for her estate, the other beneficiaries noticed that the monies in the joint account was not included in the asset list. He now claims that the money is not part of the estate and that it was given to him as a gift. He has also been pocketing the rent from her 2 properties where he has instructed the tenants to transfer the payments into his personal account. The rent money is missing from the asset list as well.
We know that he has given Β£100,000 to Aunty B, Aunty C and Aunty C's husband (who is not a beneficiary) saying that it is part of the estate in an agreement he made them sign. He now refuses to distribute the money to the other siblings, D,E,F,G, & H who are not on good terms with him. His logic is that the money is his now to do as he pleases.
We know for a fact that Aunty R did not gift him the money. She had discussed her plans for her estate with several siblings as well as nephews and nieces. We have a draft of a will that Aunty R never got attested that detailed what she wanted to do with her assets after her death as well.
We also have evidence by way of recordings of meetings and correspondence between Uncle A and the other siblings explicitly saying that the monies in his account belonged to Aunty R. We also know that Uncle A is not able to produce any document saying that she was gifting him the monies in the joint account.
The other siblings are considering taking up legal action against Uncle A. After some research we believe we can rely on the law of Resulting Trusts to get the assets included as part of her estate. Can a

Let me preface by saying I just dove back into RDR2, and Arthur Morgan gives me crazy Logen vibes.
I think Rockstar could knock it out of the park.
Open world style with key story plots but tons of organic side missions and NPC interactions along with activities like hunting, cooking in your trusty pot⦠so much they could do.
Also, they could switch up playable characters at some points, just like RDR does. Have a couple chapters as Jezal or Dogman.
Have a game set for The First Law trilogy, then DLC for the stand alones (maybe played as Shivers), then another game for the Age of Madness.
Oh man⦠I can dream it at least.
So, whatβs yalls thoughts? Who would you trust to do the story justice in video game format?
Most large companies pay about 20% of their fixes administrative costs toward legal, accounting/audit, and consulting fees.
By fixed costs i mean costs that occur every month that do not go up nor down because of volatility or use. For example Netflix is a fixed cost whether you download movies every day or once a month, you pay the same.
Professional fees are a hybrid, most organizations accrue a monthly charge and then reverse the accrual and add reality. So i could accrue $200,000 in professional fees and actually incur 170,000 meaning i can bank 30,000 for the next month.
With all the different laws on property, printing, IP, labour, safety, permitting, etc. It only makes sense that transnational companies outsource legal problems to specialized local experts.
Given the size and membership of our org add to the fact that we have an enormous exposure to litigation suits.
How much does WT accrue per month? My guess is 10 million a month

This is a week of continuing unfinished business.
Government bills on financing nuclear power stations and supporting businesses hit by pandemic-induced rent debt progress towards the end of their Commons journey.
Meatier stuff is happening in the Lords.
They're considering amendments to the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, including disregarding convictions and cautions against gay men for former sexual offences that are now legal.
And then Friday brings private members' bills.
Mark Jenkinson kicks off with one extending careers guidance in secondary schools.
Nuclear Energy (Financing) Bill - report stage and 3rd reading
Approves a new financing model for building nuclear power stations whereby households pay a small amount each month to fund plants as they're being constructed. By financing nuclear projects upfront, the aim is to make them more attractive to domestic investors and reduce the UK's reliance on funding from overseas groups like the China General Nuclear Power Group.Β More information here.
Co-Operatives (Employee Company Ownership)Β Bill
Gives employees the right to buy out all or part of a business at risk of collapsing, and run it as a co-operative. Ten minute rule motion presented by Christina Rees.
Digitally Altered Body Images Bill
Requires advertisers, broadcasters and publishers to show a certain logo when images of human bodies or body parts have had their proportions digitally altered. Ten minute rule motion presented by Luke Evans.
Commercial Rent (Coronavirus) Bill - report stage and 3rd reading
Enables arbitration to be used to resolve rent disputes between landlords and commercial tenants. Aims to ensure that rent debt that built up because of pandemic closures doesn't force an otherwise viable business to fold.
No votesΒ scheduled
Education (Careers Guidance in Schools) Bill - report stage and 3rd reading

Let's face it, Parliament is not where the drama is this week.
The prime minister is under increasing pressure elsewhere, setting himself up for another interesting PMQs.
Sue Gray's report into the Downing Street parties will probably land at the end of the week at the earliest, meaning any parliamentary debate on it will fall next week.
The Elections Bill gets another airing in the Commons on Monday.
The most controversial bit is probably the requirement to show ID when voting. Proposed amendments include removing that clause, as well as reducing the voting age to 16 in parliamentary elections and banning overseas electors from donating to UK parties.
And the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Bill arrives from the Lords.
This is the centrepiece of the government's animal welfare agenda. It would legally recognise that vertebrate animals are sentient beings capable of feelings like pain and joy.
Elections Bill - report stage and 3rd reading
Introduces new measures aimed at strengthening the integrity of the electoral process, including requiring voters to show ID in General Elections. Scraps the 15-year limit on voting for UK citizens living overseas. Lays out new rules for EU citizens standing and voting in UK elections. Requires digital campaign materials to show details of the promoter of the materials (as is the case for printed materials).
Digital Devices (Access for Next of Kin) Bill
Grants the next of kin a right of access to the digital devices of a dead or incapacitated person. Ten minute rule motion presented by Ian Paisley.
Animal Welfare (Sentience) Bill - 2nd reading
Establishes in law the sentience of vertebrate animals. Also creates an animal sentience committee to report on whether government policymaking is taking into account the fact that animals are sentient beings capable of feeling emotions and pain. Started in the Lords.
Prisons (Violence) Bill
Places a duty on the Prison and Probation Service and private prison operators to minimise violence in prisons. Ten minute rule motion presented by Grahame Morris.
Building Safety Bill - report stage and 3rd reading
