"This is Tigra reporting from hell, it seems to be snowing and the goblin has died of frostbite, fresh one is on order."

I wanna say sorry for not getting a chapter done for you people, not to mention this special having supposed to be a bonus to go along with 140, but holy shit what a week.

I will not be able to give any guaranties as to when the next chapter is coming out nor is the Christmas special I was toying with going to happen. I simply haven't got the minutes to spare these days since everything for our uni project just kinda went tits up at the last minute and now it's time to start prepping for exams in january... of which the first on Jan 3... yay...

With the whining out of the way, I do hope you enjoy part 4 of the special even if it's both late, and not the main story. I am sorry, but hopefully it's at least funny.

HoH Field Trip 2 Electric Boogaloo part 4

And Saph is laying siege to Jacky’s fort,” Dakota went with a sigh.

Electric field in an atom.

How do charges in a neutral atom cancel out?

The answer that an atom has an equal number of protons and electrons doesn't satisfy. The simple model of an atom is that protons and neutrons are next to each other and, a bit further, electrons are around them. So, in my opinion, the only place where charges* cancel out is a circle between protons and electrons. Outside an atom, the negative charge* should be much stronger than the positive charge*.

Crucial edit here:

By writing charge (in places with *) I was thinking about fields. Nevertheless, the question is valid because if the charges were cancel out, there would be no electric fields.

The electric field E = (-2ax, -2ay, a^2).

Using guasses law (div(E) = rho / epilson_0), the charge density is a constant -4a*epilson_0.

This doesn't seem right. Why does a spherically symmetric charge distribution not lead to an outwards pointing field? I feel like I must be missing something.

If I was measuring the amount of current flowing through this circuit with a very fast multimeter, would I see the current decrease as the leading edge travels across the circuit, as shown in the graph above? Also, when if I was to move the return path(bottom wire) further from the top wire, but kept the total length of the wire the same, would I see energy loss because the fields have to travel more?

Question about Electromagnetic Fields and Electric Guitar Pickups

Long story short, I've been looking into the practicality of using electric guitar pickups on a bowed instrument like an electric violin or cello. The way that normal guitar pickups work is that they have a magnetic bar/rod (usually alnico or ceramic) wrapped in a copper coil. Either the north or south end of the magnet(s) faces the guitar strings (which have a steel core) and when the string is plucked, the movement towards and away from the magnet interacts with its magnetic field. This interaction is converted into electricity and used to produce sound out of an electric guitar.

My issue is, when strings on a violin or cello are played with a bow, the strings move horizontally rather than vertically and barely affect the magnetic field of the pickups because of it. It's for this reason that conventional guitar pickups don't work well on bowed instruments for anything other than ambient noises. However, could the design of the pickup be modified to make it usable on bowed strings? (this would be easier to explain with diagrams, which I did draw up, but this post won't let me upload any)

My thinking is that since the string needs to move vertically (between the north and south poles of the magnet) to have a strong effect on the magnetic field but the strings are moving horizontally when bowed, could I reposition the magnets to be perpendicular to the strings and pick them up better? My thinking (am I most certainly am no physicist, I'm only speaking from a limited science background) is that if the magnet is centered with the string, then the string moving side to side should be moving in the magnetic field in the same directional manner as the guitar strings and, thus, have their signal picked up better.

I might need a stronger magnet than I would normally, but my question is whether or not is POSSIBLE enough for me to invest a few bucks and some time in order to test it or if it's just a lot cause from a scientific standpoint.

Here's a link to a website that might explain some of this better than I can: https://www.amplifiedparts.com/tech-articles/basic-electric-guitar-circuits-1-pickups

Electric field: Student has a question

Hello and thank you for your time.

wikipedia: An electric field is the physical field that surrounds electrically-charged particles

E = FC / q

Now:

Base on my knowledge, I can only get FC if I have 2 charged particles because

FC = (1/4*pi*epsilon0) * (Q1*Q2/r^2)

Now If I only have 1 charged particle in a closed system (almost like a vacuum but there is 1 charged particle in the system) and nothing can interact with the system in any way.

Does that particle NOT have an electric field?

Because FC = 0 and so E = 0?

I am a student and I really need help (maybe its totally wrong what im building my question upon, I dont know.)

Thank you very much

ElectriPy 0.0.4: visualize the electric field and electric forces of a charge distribution.

Hi everybody!I'm here to show you the last update I made to ElectriPy. The first time I shared this project it got lots of upvotes and suggestions. You can see how ElectriPy used to look like on the old post.

Among all the suggestions there was one that was quite requested: visualizing the entire electric field. The old version of this project only let you visualize the electric field vector at your cursor position. On ElectriPy 0.0.4 you can visualize the whole electric field and also modify its brightness! You can still display the electric field vector at your cursor position though, as I find it funny to see this vector go off the screen because the magnitude of the electric field is too large.

ElectriPy 0.0.4

The installation is straight forward and the controls are super easy and intuitive. You can get more information at ElectriPy README.md. I have also added a document explaining the physics used for making this project, you can check it out HERE.

Any kind of contribution is welcome. Even correcting grammatical mistakes, reorganizing my repository or improving PyPi setup files (since I'm a newbie at uploading my programs on PyPi) really helps me!

GitHub repo: https://github.com/dylannalex/electripy

Feedback and suggestions are welcome!

Why is the electric field of a wire different than the electric field of a hollow cylindrical shell?

I'm doing some E&M derivations and it's pretty clear to me how to find the electric field expression for an infinitely long wire containing a linear charge density lambda but I want to derive an expression for the electric field of an infinitely long hollow, thin cylinder with a surface charge density sigma.

My thought process is that I could take the electric flux through a gaussian cylinder outside of the cylindrical surface, however I think I can't figure out the discrepancy between the surface charge density and, in the example of the infinitely long wire, a linear charge density.

I'm sure I'm probably missing something pretty simple to see, sorry!

They had partially closed the larger entrance behind him, a kind of rolling door coming down from above. It was much warmer inside than it had any right to be given the lack of large fires.. He wondered if that had something to do with the amount of people running around. They were supposedly all warm after all, and well, he had felt Tom’s body heat a few times before. β€˜yeah that must be it.’
