Why are X-linked recessive disorders more common in human males if one of the female x-chromosomes is randomly inactivated to achieve dosage compensation?

I know that x-linked recessive disorders are more common in males because they only have one X chromosome, whereas females have two.

However I’ve just been reading up on dosage compensation and learned that one of the female X chromosomes are randomly inactivated and only one is expressed.

Surely this would mean x-linked recessive disorders would be just as common in females as even if a dominant β€˜healthy’ allele was present, the chromosome it’s on may be inactivated and only the recessive allele will be expressed.

Can someone tell me where I’m going wrong here?

Thank you.

A typical woman has 2 X chromossomes, and one of them has most of its genes "silenced" because of dosage compensation. What would happen if this second chromossome was not "silenced"?

Is there any condition that causes someone to have both of their X chromossomes fully active?

Would it cause health issues? Would this woman develop characteristics that don't exist in other humans?

JunkDNA? Chromosome Copies and Inverse Dosage Compensation, PolyComb Repression Complex

[Advanced Topic in Genetics and Genomics]

Here is a fascinating article on the life and work of James A. Birchler who got elected to the National Academy of Sciences:

https://www.pnas.org/content/110/8/2687

It is a technical article, but it is also interesting news for those trying to understand "junkDNA".

It indirectly mentions one of my favorite refutations of junkDNA which is the Poly Comb Repression Complex. I describe lnc/lincRNA HOTAIR which interacts with the Poly Comb Repression Complex here:

Dosage compensation in G2?

Does anyone know how dosage compensation is handled in G2 when there's twice as many chromosomes? Is one set of chromatids epigenetically silenced?

Question: What is more common, X inactivation or dosage compensation?

I am wondering if one is more common than the other and if there are any common generalities that can be made (ie. mammals commonly use X inactivation while insects us dosage compensation). Anyone have any insight and can you throw out some papers that might help me out.

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Dropped my best ever dad joke & no one was around to hear it

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies πŸ˜‚
