A list of puns related to "Dosage Compensation"
I know that x-linked recessive disorders are more common in males because they only have one X chromosome, whereas females have two.
However Iβve just been reading up on dosage compensation and learned that one of the female X chromosomes are randomly inactivated and only one is expressed.
Surely this would mean x-linked recessive disorders would be just as common in females as even if a dominant βhealthyβ allele was present, the chromosome itβs on may be inactivated and only the recessive allele will be expressed.
Can someone tell me where Iβm going wrong here?
Thank you.
Is there any condition that causes someone to have both of their X chromossomes fully active?
Would it cause health issues? Would this woman develop characteristics that don't exist in other humans?

Here is a fascinating article on the life and work of James A. Birchler who got elected to the National Academy of Sciences:

It is a technical article, but it is also interesting news for those trying to understand "junkDNA".
It indirectly mentions one of my favorite refutations of junkDNA which is the Poly Comb Repression Complex. I describe lnc/lincRNA HOTAIR which interacts with the Poly Comb Repression Complex here:

Does anyone know how dosage compensation is handled in G2 when there's twice as many chromosomes? Is one set of chromatids epigenetically silenced?
I am wondering if one is more common than the other and if there are any common generalities that can be made (ie. mammals commonly use X inactivation while insects us dosage compensation). Anyone have any insight and can you throw out some papers that might help me out.
In a lot of medical dramas and show they tend to mention "Oh he is strong enough for general anesthesia" or they worry about someone being put under multiple times for repeat surgeries.
Why is there such a risk with general anesthesia?
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π

π» Hello! For context, I grew up below the legally defined poverty line in a low-income area in cali. EBT/SNAP, free school lunch, section 8 housing, Medi-Cal/Healthy Families/Covered CA; whatever gov assistance program there was, we were on it! My parents were refugees, non-english speaking, and my family is still on gov assistance today. I haven't received financial support from them since moving out at 17 to go to college. I am currently single, but always had separated finances in relationships.
