A list of puns related to "Desktop Environment"
I launched version 1 of this project over a year ago and got amazing feedback. After that I decided to redo the entire project from scratch and stream all my progress. I've been doing that for 52 weeks straight, and I am finally happy enough with my project to replace my personal website with the app.

Cause Iβve heard of openbox ,KDE plasma but I donβt know which is the best and has less bloat. Currently Iβm using Gnome which as a ton of bloat which I hear so any thought on which is the best
If you're not up to the recent topics, it was confirmed a time ago that Pop! _OS is going to have its own desktop environment (DE) written from scratch in Rust (COSMIC). Currently, COSMIC is, at its core, GNOME, but with a bunch of extensions that change its workflow accordingly to what the devs think is better. It's already under development. Before moving on to what it's known, here's a quick note:
>COSMIC is in very, very early development. Many things listed here are completely subject to change, or even discard. What is certain is that it will be written in Rust. Therefore everything else may be considered speculation*. I've based the topics here on searchs at the Pop!_OS repo in GitHub.*
Firstly, let's state some context on why making a new DE:
Hello guys,
I have been using Phosh and was happy with it's UI before I got the keyboard. I'll be only using my PP with that keyboard so I now want to use it in landscape mode and Phosh isn't doing great for that.
I may start customizing one, but I was wonder what you guys are using right now. Maybe I missed something!
Thanks
I have an Arch system installed in a SSD drive with less than 100 Gb. As a way to use the space of my 1tb HDD, I created another arch install which I acess from arch-chroot. When I want to run a graphical application, I have to:
type xhost +local:
in the host system;
type echo $DISPLAY
to discover the display number;
enter the chroot environment;
type export DISPLAY=:0
(display number);
execute the app, often with the flag --no-sandbox
for electron apps I think.
Is there a tool/script to automate all this process and create shortcuts of apps from the chroot environment in my main system's desktop environment/ app search? Or would I have to write one? Thanks
Katana is fork of KDE Software Distribution with emphasis on efficiency. So far it has proven to be roughly 50% less system resource hungry and significantly faster.

Anyone runs it full time?
Hi! I'm thinking to install Arch Linux and I'm collecting some information 'cause I'm a nooby...
I plan use bspwm, so, do I have to install some desktop environment?
I mean by default, not after tweaks and edits
Hey,
I just ran across this lighter version of KDE and I was wondering if anyone has tried it:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/plasma-nano-git/
I'm hoping to find something kind of mid-way between the heavy KDE million packages setup and an i3 tiling wm, thought this sounded like it could be a good crossover paired with the kwin-tiling script and bismuth.
Anyone out there given this one a shot?
We're 2022 but I still miss the crispness and simplicity of desktops like Sun OpenWindows.
The style used on MS Windows 2000 is also a favorite of mine, with a good balance of straightforward window controls and widgets and 256-color icons.
I also like a lot KDE 2.0 when it was released, although the icons are often a bit to the 'over' side.
DE available today seems to use too much aliasing, pastel colors and gradients in their default configurations. It's like all elements seem a bit blurry; they could tricks to improve contrast with the background (e.g.: thin line at icon limits) but that's not the case.
Hi, was wondering which Desktop and environment and which... Compositor? (wayland/xorg) to use with a new Arch install and an Nvidia card. Does anyone have an anwser for this?
Thanks in advance

Hi all, I haven't used Linux as a daily but am looking at Garuda as my first daily distro.
What is everyone's favourite desktop environment on Garuda and why. I'm indecisive and need some help.
Main daily use will be browsing, some tinkering (am an amateur btw)and some gaming (still will be jumping to windows for games mainly)
