Demurrage Puns

We're bringing in about 7.3 cubic metres of household goods, and I've just been notified that the shipment may be delayed by 5-8 weeks at Felixstowe and likely to incur daily port rent/demurrage costs. Has anyone dealt with this recently? What was your experience? How much did you end up paying, and did it take as long as they estimated?

We've been basically camping out in our flat for the past month waiting for our things, slowly buying new as we admit defeat on little items here and there. What should I expect? For further detail, it's a "40-foot high cube" that is being shared with other people's things. They say the port charges will be applied to everyone proportionally.

I've already squeezed the consignee for as much info as they'll give. They've been playing cards close to the chest, and ignored me every time I asked about typical costs, which is more worrying than breaking the bad news up front. Little help?

We shipped a container via AGL going direct to ONT8 FC that has been discharged on 9/12, but still has not outgated.

Based on our experience and considering today's date, which is well over standard last free day it seems very likely that Amazon is letting the container sit (due to lack of drayage or congestion at FC's) at the CY and letting demurrage charges accrue, which shouldn't be a big deal for Amazon.

However, all forwarders we've worked with avoid demurrage fees at all costs because it's not something you allow and can cause issues with the CY not to mention backlog for other scheduled drayage appointments, with cost being secondary.

Has anyone recently imported a container and have sensed that Amazon is simply eating the cost of demurrage by delaying picking up of the container as long as they see fit?

Like a lot of companies we are getting killed on demurrages at Long Beach and LA. Is there any legit way we can have these credited back to us? What type of situation would be an example?

This whole situation is new for us and crimping our cash flow.

Is their a portal, TMS, or other subscription service that consolidates demurrage (and or per diem) charges from all ports/terminals/lines into a single point of visibility? Our trucking company does drayage for 6 different US ports out of various terminals and right now we receive most all charges notifications via email from different sources and have to consolidate manually into spreadsheets to keep a master list.

So I work for a steel importer and we had 8 containers arrive at the Port of Montreal right when their labor strike started in late July. Since the Port was effectively closed we could not pick up our containers within the 14 days of free time and they went into demurrage.

As soon as the strike ended we had our containers picked up an returned within a couple of days. However now MSC is sending us demurrage invoices totalling ~$20,000.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or has any advice.

Im getting charged this much daily for 8500 pounds for essentially storage, its countertop material. Its at Saint George Logistics in Seattle.

Its about 4 CBM, not huge.

Im in about 10k with material and shipping costs from China. It's currently being held for Intensive exam by CBP, my broker, Lynden International informed me this would probably happen as I was a first time importer, I also used my SS number, which was another red flag, that I was unaware of. I guess a EIN number has "less flags"? ok.

So anyways, Im being held hostage at this daily rate, and I've made every single phone call I can possibly make. Nothing I can do until CBP does paperwork or whatever.

Lynden may have given the wrong documents when it first came to port. I sent two invoices when I started to get qoutes for shipping. The last invoice I sent was an updated invoice and I do believe they sent an incorrect invoice with documentation.

How fucked am I? I have about 1k in cushion because I was led to believe this was door to door shipping costs. I do have enough money for the duties, which is about 2k So i have 3k in total.

I make 142 dollars a day after taxes, I literally can not afford to keep up with the cost on a daily basis, even if I stopped paying my mortgage.

My girlfriend is also pregnant, expecting in the next 60 days or so. I sold her this importing idea as a way to get ahead. This was our savings, and Im not sure how to break this to her. Stress is not good for the baby, and I just don't know what the fuck to do.

I plan on working my day job and ubering non stop to cushion the blow, but she will notice, so if the demmurage charges add up to be so negatively cost effective, should I abandon the the 3 pallets of material?

Will they come after me in court or will my bond cover me as insurance?

TLDR: Im in 10k total, being charged 250 a day for storage for CBP exam. If a total loss threshold is reached, how should I handle it? Will never do this again.

With the USA west cost ports being so swamped right now, how can you avoid detention and demurrage charges? Or can you?

I know force majeure has been thrown around a lot recently with Covid-19, but if a vessel gets delayed due to bad weather and road freight has to be cancelled by a freight forwarder, who pays for the demurrage and cancellation fees? The customer or the freight forwarder? It seems tight on either party to get lumped with the cost, but not sure whether it would stand legally?

If anyone could advice / give me links to cases or articles for further reading that would be great!

I assume that at least some folks on here have already dealt with delays in shipping product(s) directly or indirectly to COVID-19. Was curios to hear if anyone has been billed for demurrage, detention and/or other fees associated with this? And the approach that carriers have been dealing with the situation as a whole?

I'm trying to find companies for a relative. EVERY time he finds a high paying load, they either cancel it or take 3 or more hours to unload his truck!

What he carries in his truck I'm not sure but, I believe it to be a dry van.
