Dattatreya is a Hindu God with 3 heads, each head being a symbol for Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva (the holy Trinity of Hinduism).
The story of his birth goes like this. Anusaya was the wife of sage Atri. She was very faithful and devoted to her husband. Her piety was so great even that wives of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva got really jealous. So they sent their husbands on a mission to test Anusaya's chastity. The 3 Gods visited Anusaya disguised as sages asking for Bhiksha (alms). However, they put one condition that Anusaya should serve them while being naked.
Now, Anusaya had attained great powers through her devotion and she quickly recognised who they were. So, she turned them into 3 little babies and kept them hidden. When the wives of the Gods realised what had happened they came and apologized to Anusaya. Anusaya forgave them and returned their husbands on one condition, they'll take birth as her sons. That's the story of Dattatreya.
When I heard the story, I had some questions.

Why were the wives of the Gods were jealous by Anusaya's faithfulness? Were they not faithful to their own husbands?

Let me start off by saying that I am only using the word "prostitute" because this is how she was referred to as in list of His Gurus, but technically she retired.
So I will talk about Pingala, whose realization is described in detail. I will quote her teachings.
She was standing in her doorway anxiously waiting for a customer as her only means of sustenance was prostitution. She became very anxious but that night she was not able to get any customers. Then, she begins to feel detached from her situation and feels happines. She feels disgusted with her material situation and became detached, then she sang
सन्तं समीपे रमणं रतिप्रदं वित्तप्रदं नित्यमिमं विहाय । अकामदं दु:खभयाधिशोक-मोहप्रदं तुच्छमहं भजेऽज्ञा ॥ ३१ ॥
I am such a fool that I have given up the service of that person who, being eternally situated within my heart, is actually most dear to me. That most dear one is the Lord of the universe, who is the bestower of real love and happiness and the source of all prosperity. Although He is in my own heart, I have completely neglected Him. This material body is like a house in which I, the soul, am living. The bones forming my spine, ribs, arms and legs are like the beams, crossbeams and pillars of the house, and the whole structure, which is full of stool and urine, is covered by skin, hair and nails. The nine doors leading into this body are constantly excreting foul substances. Besides me, what woman could be so foolish as to devote herself to this material body, thinking that she might find pleasure and love in this contraption?
सुहृत् प्रेष्ठतमो नाथ आत्मा चायं शरीरिणाम् । तं विक्रीयात्मनैवाहं रमेऽनेन यथा रमा ॥ ३५ ॥
The Supreme Personality of Godhead is absolutely the most dear one for all living beings because He is everyone’s well-wisher and Lord. He is the Supreme Soul situated in everyone’s heart.
