This might be super unhealthy if it doesn't actually manifest the way I think it will but if we do get the clickbait storm just airing out now might be super helpful in not getting in useless debates with people who care not about DUNE. So today I got this video by the dude formally known as geeks and gamers on YouTube bitching about how the GameSpot review is complaining about white saviour tropes.
Don't get me wrong, I think that's bullshit and I think most of the people on this sub now (i.e. people invested in the books) can actually calmly and logically explain just how that's bullshit. Subversion of the hero's journey, the fremen not just being pushovers waiting for Paul to save them, etc, etc. Just go watch some Quinn's ideas (long may he reign)
But I can taste the clickbait storm abrewing in the air already.
On the anti-sjw side you'll have dudes like geeks and gamers that don't actually give a shit about dune. They're just trying to find the next front in the culture war now that star wars has been bled dry. It's their whole shtick.
And on the progressive side they'll have fodder. They'll have the Jezebel articles and the Guardian thinkpieces written by interns who read the first book halfway one summer when they were twelve.
And where does this leave us- the dare I say, "true dune fans" ( and the rude duners to a lesser extent shout-out to Henry)? We don't have to take a side. Nothing we don't know will be brought up in the coming discussion. Prepare yourself for thinkpieces about Frank Herbert's sexual life, interviews with his son, black and middle Eastern actors weighing in, crusades versus jihads.
It leaves us in the same position as the fremen in book one. This is our land, we know it like the atreides (progressive clickbait peddlers) and the harkonens (internet manchildren) never will. We must let them have their little wars without interfering. Let them pass over us and through us. When the normies have gone only we will remain.

Why bother? By all means, let's debate and dialogue but why waste social and political capital coopting their bullshit talking points that make me want to tear my hair out. They're loons. AOC is a prospective catastrophe for the entirety of the country - her economic policies and her social policies would reap untold destruction. She's also extremely and obviously unintelligent - you will never change her mind, because her politics is inextricable with her identity. The long-term investment she's made practising identity politics is irrevocable. So why the fuck would you ever waste time trying to "speak" to someone like her and someone who supports her?
All you're doing is alienating the people most sympathetic to libertarianism who aren't libertarians - that would be conservatives. Y'know, the conservatives who think conserving the philosophy of the founder fathers is the way to go?

These people could careless about getting guns off the street. They are just trying to use this issue to show that they are "progressive" and "outraged" like the majority of Democrats. They care as much about gun control as Hillary does. Now in reality what they care about is finding a safety valve for the hatred a majority of people feel towards the Democratic establishment and attempting to ease the pressure by doing these silly sitins and other grandstanding.
Where's the grandstanding for campaign finance?
Where's the grandstanding for universal healthcare?
Where's the grandstanding about supporting a candidate that believes in regime changes and the cure all to all foreign policy woes?
I could do this all day on fraking, the minimum wage, college tuition, credit card interest rates...
