A list of puns related to "Composite Lumber"
Hi neighbors, I'm in need of some composite lumber for a landscaping project at my house, but what I need can be really old and beat up, so I'd prefer not to buy new.
Maybe you demolished an old deck and you've been procrastinating on getting rid of it? I need about 100sf of material. Must be composite or PVC.
Thanks so much!
For those looking for colors on composite lumber

We've looked at Trex and a few others. But I am not at all familiar with these products so I don't know if their prices have fluctuated much recently. Anyone know how to look up historical price data for something like this?
There is 11 types of composite lumber in eco, does anyone have pictures of them for color differences before I have to make all of them?
Hoping this doesn't violate rule 8, but if so, I'll move it over to the megathread.
I have a late 2000s Sundance Cameo I just bought for cheap The bottom base and a few bottom frame boards are rotten has anyone replaced their framing or their bottom base with PVC or composite material?
I was planning on rebuilding my deck this year and everyone's been saying how outrageous lumber prices are. Is this the case for composite decking like Azek PVC or Fiberon?
Hello everyone! I'm in the process of getting quotes from professional deck contractors for a 2 elevation deck. Upper deck would be around 100 sqft and lower elevation would be around 450 sqft. Two sets of stairs.
First contractor quoted around 35k, using standard trex.
Second contractor hasnt provided a quote yet and said his quote, when provided, will be valid for 24 hrs so they can lock material prices.
My questions is, should I wait another 6 months since lumber futures are already declining and the prices come back down? How much is the limber futures affecting composite deck materials, like trex, that are partially made from lumber?
Also, any one have some good rules for evaluating if a contractors price is reasonable?
Thanks All!
Our deck/balcony is ~8' wide and ~6' out from the house (built in 2003). Somehow when these were built, they managed to get zero spacing consistency between the cantilevered joists (see photo). The question is, since the generic guidance is 16" joist spacing for composite decking and one gap is 20 3/4 inches, based upon the photo, do I bother throwing in at least one non-cantilevered joist in that larger gap just to prevent sagging?
If so, the rim joist on the end is currently only toe-nailed on (and pulling away, which I'm fixing), so I imagine I'd need to reinforce those connections and use joist hangers for that extra support board.
Thoughts?

As the title mentions, Iβd like to build some houses or roosts for my backyard birds. Since Iβd like to attract chickadees, Iβm planning on following this guide from Cornell: https://nestwatch.org/wp-content/themes/nestwatch/birdhouses/black-capped-chickadee.pdf
I might modify it slightly so I can convert the nest box to a roosting box for winter (removable door that can flip so that the entrance hole is at the bottom for winter, keeping heat in).
My question is, which do you think is better for the birds? Traditional lumber or composite lumber? Traditional lumber seems like itβd be safest, but I feel like it might be tougher to clean/disinfect each year. It also wouldnβt last as long.
Composite on the other hand seems like itβs fairly easy to clean, but I do wonder about the safety of plastic with the birds. I also worry that the material might get hotter than wood if exposed to sun. Also, would the birds struggle to hold on to the composite over regular wood? Composite does have a definite advantage when it comes to longevity.
So we are in need of replacing our deck. It is over 20 years old and the cedar is beginning to break down. Our deck is south facing and so it gets the sun all day long. We live in southern Ontario.
I am wondering about composite. Is it worth the price to use? Does it fade? I have read some reviews about some of the products out there like Fiberon, Timber Tech, Correct Deck, and Trex and they are not perfect it seems.
I am interested in any advice about composite lumber and satisfaction with your purchase.
Trying to source the manufacturer of the composite lumber for the Alfresco line at Crate & Barrel.
Anyone here just happen to know?
Also interested in suggestions for something similar.
Already checked most major brands of composite decking, and no one offers smaller slat sizes like this.
I'm on a committee to plan the outdoor space at my kid's school. I've been tasked with researching composite recycled plastic lumber in comparison to traditional lumber. I realize that there will be differences in upkeep, replacement, etc, but since we'll be using some of this to create vegetable garden beds the idea of bpa, pvc, etc leaching into the soil from the composite has been raised. I'm in St. Louis, MO if that helps. This past summer it was as hot as 108. Any ideas on this or where I can start my research. Its hard to tell the authority of some of these sites I'm finding.
TL;DR: Does Composite recycled plastic lumber leach any chemicals into the soil?
I want to build a new front and rear deck with storage for my Carolina Skiff J16. I'm just planning things out right now and will likely do the work in the middle of summer 2022. I was planning on just doing wood/resin/fiberglass, but I keep hearing that "composite" is better.
What exactly are we talking about regarding composite? What are the products? I've looked around (google) and really the only thing I've found is Coosa board which is expensive, hard to get, and still has to be glassed. Also 3M reinforced PU foam . What am I missing?
Has anybody tried a product like this stuff? MoistureShield Composite Decking: Inspired Outdoor Living I would love to take a screw-&-glue approach to the build, if possible. Thanks.
Hi everyone
I have spent some time doing a cheat sheet of the most essential steps to think of in a typical AoE game for my girlfriend who is completely new to Age, to RTS and to some extent to computers. The idea being to have a printed version nearby or a digital on a second screen that she can check from time to time to see whether she forgot something important. I thought it might be of some use for newer players (I assume under 800 elo). I have included the hotkeys that I set up for her, but here is the link if you want to exchange them with your own. Please keep in mind that it is not exhaustive and based on my personal opinion of what I think are essential steps for beginners. I am a fairly experienced player, but far from an expert.
How the cheat sheet works:
Blue keys indicate "go-to" hotkeys, green are game actions, black are buildings (I use B to build both types of buildings), and red are units.
The dark age segment describes a basic general build order, with two houses at the start, 6 villagers on sheep then 4 making one lumber camp. I would suggest doing loom afterwards as it will simplify boar lures massively for newer players and doesnβt make that much of a difference vs doing it before clicking up. Also protects the player versus wolves, scout lames and who knows, an eventual drush. Add 4 villagers to berries and the rest to food under the TC until you can click up. During the transition, build a second lumber camp to have 5+5 villagers on wood.
Essential hotkeys include the βgo-to TCβ hotkey, villager hotkey, garrison (instead of town bell) & return to work, as well as Idle villager. I am aware that this might seem like much, but it will simplify your playing by a lot once you get used to it.
I would suggest building a barracks while going up to feudal.
In feudal, I give the 4 essential units as I wouldnβt recommend drushes or men-at-arms at lower elos as they require too much multi-tasking. Be offensive with archers or with scouts depending on your civ or be defensive with spearmen against scouts and with skirms against archers. Keep in mind that if you do archers or skirmishers, you will need a blacksmith to do fletching.

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Motivation
This is going to be a series in which I look at bonuses, descriptions, tech trees, history, game mechanics, unique units, and unique techs to make a guess how civs were intended to be played. This is just my musings about civs I like and to discuss AOE2. I cannot actually speak for the designers, I don't really believe there are right ways to play a civ. That won't stop us from trying to come up with an intended army composition. This is supposed to be a fun conversation.
Assumptions:
The Big Bias
If there was one map for Age of Empires II it would be Nomad. The first time I played Age of Empires and Age of Empires II they were set to Nomad starts. Originally nomad was a setting not a map. The reason Nomad was not included as a map in Age of Empires II is because Chinese additional villagers defeated the balance. I will tend to consider how the bonuses and units work for an open hybrid map with water on the outside.
Samurai
The image of the Samurai is the most ubiquitous cultural icon associated with the Japanese. In reality Samurai went through a number of stages as cavalry archers, mercenaries, feudal rulers, swordsmen and more. Samurai is a broad term that can be translated to servant or henchmen. They were a warrior caste similar to the knights of feudal Europe. Unlike knight Samurai comprised a dominate number of troops in an army. Knights made up a small contingent of an army supported by man-at-arms and conscripted men. Historians could fight all day defining Samurai.
In AoE2 Samurai were originally going to have melee and ranged attacks before developers removed their ranged attack because it was cumbersome. To mimic real life Samurai and developers early ideas AoE2 Japan

I'm looking for companies that produce construction materials but they have to be produced in the US. I'm alreadying thinking of the big names for metals like X, NUC, FCX, MT, CLF, and VMC (and would be open to others). But I'm at a loss for lumber and plastics. The US imports most of its lumber from Canada and plastics seem to come from overseas. Also, drywall? I can't find anything that's a public company

An orthodox understanding of Nirnβs geography is that relative to Tamriel, you have Akavir to the east, Yokuda to the west, Atmora to the north, and Aldmeris (disputably, assuming it actually existed which is a contentious subject) to the south. This is firmly established by books, in-game dialogue, maps and developer commentary. Here - without contradicting any of the facts I just mentioned - I propose and elaborate on a theory: Atmora and Kamal are the same place. Much of the evidence here is circumstantial, but what are fan theories but beautiful necklaces created by stringing together beads of facts that don't line up with a flimsy bit of string?
(NOTE: I am not the first to propose a theory like this: see https://www.reddit.com/r/teslore/comments/cnl3f2/kamal_decendents_of_atmora_theory/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/teslore/comments/4bdfzx/theory_on_the_location_and_fate_of_atmora/, as well as others I probably missed.)
First, according to my theory, Akavir is still east of Tamriel. If you sail east from Morrowind, you will probably end up in Tsaesci, much like how Europe is east of North America. But suppose Akavir - like Tamriel - is a continent that stretches up north, close if not beyond the arctic circle. In fact, imagine it stretches so far up north that the northern part of Akavir is situated around the North Pole. Since we see auroras and frozen oceans year-round in Skyrimβs northernmost regions, and since Atmora is implied to be a decent distance across the sea, itβs a fair assumption that Atmora is located close to, if not at, the North Pole as well.
Now that Iβve established how my theory envisions Nirnβs geography (which again, crucially, is not suggesting that Akavir is not east of Tamriel), without further ado, letβs do further:
PART 1: HISTORICAL COINCIDENCES
First, what do we know about the Kamal? Going off of Mysterious Akavir, we know theyβre one of the four major races of Akavir, theyβre described as demons (with Kamal translating to βSnow Hellβ), and theyβre led by a βking among demonsβ, AdaβSoom Dir Kamal. They thaw out once a year and attack the Tang Mo, the monkey folk of Akavir.
Now letβs start with the only verified instance of Kamali interaction with Tamriel. We know that the Kamal invaded Skyrim in the 2nd Era

I started playing WowsL earlier this year, and have fallen very much in love with the game. But over recent weeks, Iβve realized that this game gives me an itch that it canβt quite scratch. I keep having these βwouldnβt it be cool ifβ¦β thoughts, only to quickly realize that what Iβm hoping for couldnβt possibly fit within the game as it currently exists. At the very least, it would require a whole new mode, quite unlike anything currently on offer (not to replace anything currently in the game, but as an additional mode). There is no chance that what Iβm looking for will ever get made, but in the spirit of βpie in the skyβ wishful thinking, I thought Iβd share my ideas with you and see what you all think. Iβll say right up front that I think working most of these ideas into a PvP experience would be close to impossible, so Iβm framing all of this within a concept of a single- player (or possibly co-op) mode against AI opponents.
First, here are the elements Iβd like to see which are currently missing from the game:
β’ Large battles and a greater sense of scale
The 9v9 setup that WowsL is built on makes perfect sense for the type of game that it is. But I wish there was a way we could experience a clash between larger naval forces. MUCH larger. Something that leans slightly closer to historical naval battle numbers, where each battleship would have several accompanying cruisers and many destroyers. Not only would this make the overall battle larger in scale, but it would emphasize the scale of the ships themselves. The majority of each teamβs fleet would be Destroyers, with numerous cruisers and only a small handful of massive, lumbering battleships (I know that sounds horrible from a balance perspective, but Iβll get to that later). Iβm not set on a specific number, but something like 4-5 battleships, 8-12 cruisers, and 20-30 Destroyers per team. In fact, having some variation between fleet sizes could come into play, but Iβll get to that later as well. All of this would obviously require significantly larger maps.
Next upβ¦
β’ A greater sense of power
One of the problems with the tier system in WoWsL is that as you earn more powerful ships, your opponents grow equally in power. This makes perfect sense for balancing reasons, but the downside is you rarely get a moment to truly experience the increases in power as you climb the tech tree. I was thrilled when I purchased my Iowa, but then in my very first match with it, I went up against an enemy Iowa a
